Boxing Day...

Just a very quick post tonight, but was always curious about this and figured today’s the day to ask…

For those of you who live in countries that celebrate Boxing Day (Dec 26th)…
for the sake of those of us who don’t, what does boxing day mean to you? Do you or your family or friends have any special traditions for Boxing Day, or is it simply just another day off? Does anyone still trade places or is that something that hasn’t been done for ages? Other than it simply “being” Boxing Day… is there still anything that sets the day apart from any other day now in 2008?

What Boxing day means to me as an American. It’s another chance to make jokes about Canadians

we do boxing day, but it’s the days of sales for us.Every big shop opens at like 7am with 50% off everything.

Yeah, you’re telling me, WALL-E. I was working today (as much as I would’ve loved the day off to get better) and the shop was packed because of the beginning of massive price reductions on everything.

So, over here, Boxing Day equals doing more shopping and spending more money. Which makes no sense whatsoever, but hey…

Well, all I know is that the Wal-Mart in my town was CRAZY today, and probably half of our customers were Canadian. :stuck_out_tongue:

Boxing Day is the day Americans go to the mall to return the things they bought the day after Thanksgiving.

Therefore since I work retail, that has always meant a busy day at work for me. But this year I had the day off, as i’m not available on fridays. What a thrill that was! I could enjoy Christmas without having to think about going to work the next day.
