The Milton Keynes Gazette reports that Brad Bird, who helmed the Oscar-winning The Incredibles and, more recently, Ratatouille , has decided after a long debate to retire.
Says Bird:
" I deeply regret doing this, and to say goodbye to not only the studio. but to the art of animation is heart-breaking. Truth be told, that’s the biggest understatement. I’ve missed out on my children’s lives during the time I was working at Pixar, and want to be more present in them. I’ve always been a family man, and they come first before anything, even this. John (Lasseter) and Steve (Jobs) were slightly shocked, but understanding. They’ve assured me that 1906 will continue production, and they, along with everyone at the studio and Disney wish me the best."
Good thing about being an artist is you never retire- the imagination’s always at work and there’s bound to be new things to come out of it! I’ll never retire, I know that for certain.
But I suppose family’s a different story. I could understand how he feels … hopefully, in his much later years, he’ll return with new material.
Yes, I’m sorry to say it, but it was an April Fools joke. Sorry, everyone. I was actually planning this since last year, and I seriously apoligize to anyone that was angered, bemused, or offendend by this. Now I feel like an immature, disgusting idiot.
Hahahaha! That was good! You know, for a split second, I thought WHAT??? Then I realized, wait a second, it must have been an April Fools. So yeah for second there, you had me.
you play neopets? what was the prank this year? i missed it. they always do one. it sone of the traditions. like that one day being canceled for lack of interest.
Aha. If you can believe it, I was actually a little shellshocked. Call me GULLIBLE – I believe everything!! I scrolled down slowly hoping to find someone who repudiated it.
Nah, I’m not offended. You just made me really appreciate him even more for staying in the business, and c’mon – he’s my favorite writer/director!

You know what’s weird? My brothers April Fools joke for my dad was that Charlton Heston died (his favorite actor). Two days later… well, it pretty much blew him away.
Brad Bird retires. Ha. Ha. Ha. Super. Hil. Ar. Ious.
The only April 1 jokes that are funny to me are Google’s ones. Did anyone catch the Virgle Project? xD
I was gonna “sign up”, but they weren’t “accepting” anymore YouTube videos after that day.
