I wasn’t sure whether to put this
here or in the off-topic section, so please move it where necessary.
Well, I just thought you’d be SO
incredibly interested to read about something I saw in the Gorillaz autobiography, “Rise of the Ogre”,
to do with Brad Bird.
It’s about the video ‘Clint Eastwood’.
Andrew Ruhemann, from Passion
Pictures- "I got emails from my great heo Brad Bird who did ‘The Incredibles’- saying 'Fantastic, that is
just so encouraging to see pieces like that- everyone’s saying 3D is now the king and 2D is dead, how fantastic
to see 2D animation of this calibre and this style looking modern and fresh’.
So, there you go. Brad Bird
loves Gorillaz.
I forget, is “Clint Eastwood” the one with the
Thriller-Gorillas? (i.e. the Gorillas dancing in a manner not unlike the zombies from Michael Jackson’s
“Thriller”)
If so, then Mr. Bird has excellent tastes! I believe John Lasseter also supports 2D
animation, as shown (literally) on Fillmore.
Live Action, 2D and 3D: These are three different mediums,
each with their own strengths and weaknesses. It’s important to appreciate this.
- Brad Bird is so gosh darn cool.
Reading that excerpt made
me smile. Not just because Brad likes the music video, but also because of his love for 2D animation. I am
growing sick of CGI movies. I don’t hate it, but I’ve been craving 2D for years.
Brad Bird would further be my hero if he helped bring it back.

I love Brad Bird as well. I bet that if he was called to do a 2D film sometime
in the near future, he will create another masterpiece. He is the greatest.

Good ol’ Brad. Even thought I don’t
even know what “Gorillaz” is – although, I have heard of it – , I’m
sure it’s suitable enough for Mr. Bird’s taste, if he likes it.
Gosh, I hope he makes an
Incredibles 2…
RMS- Yars, that’s the one.
But the gorillas in the
autobiography clearly state that the Michael Jackson-esque style of their dance moves was ‘purely unintended’.

PV and TSS- It wouldn’t surprise me if Brad Bird himself is getting a
little tired of 3D movies. I’m sure he’s eager to start a new 2D project
sometime.
Mitch- No worries- Gorillaz was more popular over here because the
guy who created it was from Blur, I’m not sure if you’ve heard of them. And yes, Brad Bird does have very good
taste!

lizardgirl - Ahh…I
see. Well, that sure clears things up, especially as I’ve never heard of Blur before.
Heheh – thanks
for the information.
Well, I must say, you’re missing
out.
Just so you know- Gorillaz is the world’s first ever animated band. It was created because it’s
creators were fed up of being in the limelight, and of the limelight affecting their perfomances and the kind of
music they made. So, they made up four animated characters to be the band itself, so to speak, and the creators
just stayed behind the scenes, making the music, so they wouldn’t be corrupted by fame and fortune, as many
other bands in the past have.
Now, back OT, I was surprised that Brad Bird liked Gorillaz, but I think
that he probably shares the same values as them.

lizardgirl - Really? That’s incredibly cool –
I’m gonna have to check them out! An animated band: now that’s something you don’t hear of everyday…

I thought the Gorillaz was a real band with real
singers. I wonder what would these people plan if they were going to do a tour.
I know
exactly what they would do because I’ve seen them perform live (on TV).
I
forget what show it was, but the Gorillaz performed with animated holograms of the characters on
stage.

Yep, that’s it PV. They have massive screens with the
members being projected onto it, apart from a single and very rare occassion when they gathered everyone who
collaborated to make every song on the new album, (and we’re talking literally hundreds of very famous artists)
to perform live, using real people and having the holograms as a background thing.
Since a few of you are not
familiar with the animated band, I dug up some images of the Gorillaz and of the “Thriller Gorillas”
music video for the song "Clint
Eastwood".

I’m sorry that most of these images are tiny.

I’m a huge fan of the GORILLAZ and also a huge fan of BRAD BIRD. So I’m glad that they
‘like’ each other.
All this talk about Brad Bird
and gorillas…I think I feel a song coming on…
He’s big.
He’s got red hair.
He likes to scream
in the morning.
He’s the 800-lb. gorilla makin’ this
movie.

Haha – oh yes, I remember them now. Big…scary…animated. (snigger) Thank you for the
pictures, PixarVixen. I can now rest in peace.
They all look rather unique. And a gorrila?
Oh I get it! Gorrilaz!
PV- Darn it, you didn’t get
the crotch-grabbing shot.
8D Who did it and in which
music video? I could search for it.
