Brad Pitt to run for senate and possibly President in 2016

I heard this last night on On Air with Ryan Seacrest. An A-list actor wants to quit his acting career and focus on a career in politics, namely, run for senate as well as possibly President of the United States in 2016.

Then he said the name - Brad Pitt.

At first I was a little taken aback, but Brad and Angelina have been shown to have a strong interest in politics, and have done their fair share of charity work (I do not know if that means anything, but I thought I would put it out there).

It’s actually not that preposterous a notion if you look back at history. Look at Ronald Reagan. I was not aware he was an actor until a few months ago.

I actually am in favor of this. If Reagan could do it, Brad certainly can.

At least it’s not Tom Cruise.

I’m sorry, but I have to say no! I’m so not for it! He wants to make certain drugs legal?! I’m sorry, but I don’t care how much money that would make us/him. I hate the idea. Ronald Reagan was doing things like taking the Berlin wall down, while Brad Pitt is wanting to make drugs legal… :open_mouth: I think that’s a pretty big difference.

I’m kinda opinionated and I have a lot of opinion when it comes to politics. This is all my personal opinion. I don’t want anybody to get offended because of my opinions, I was just saying what I thought.

No offense taking I hope.

Wow. I don’t know much about politics, so I have no clue if this is a good idea or not. It’s certainly…interesting. I remember all my friends laughing when Arnold Schwarzenegger ran for governor of California, but I haven’t heard of any major screw-ups that were his fault. But, like I said, I don’t even follow Canadian politics, never mind American. If he does get elected, you can be sure to expect a lot of controversy, and funny cameos, like Arnold’s in The Simpsons Movie.

You’veGotAFriendInMe, what drugs is he planning to legalize?

Evil_Genius_27 - Well, he thinks that legalizing marijuana would help the economy. He’s also obsessed with legalizing pot. He believes it would be the biggest moneymaker since the Internet. :open_mouth: I can’t say I agree… of course I’m against drugs. I just don’t think he should get involved with American politics, if you know what I mean. I think he would end up hurting more people then helping. Just think of the US having a President that thought drugs were good things! So many people would be hooked on them! It would be terrible! :shake:

No, no, no!

Brad Pitt has good intentions, but sometimes I don’t think he knows what he’s doing.

For example, Hurricane Katrina. Worst disaster to hit the United States. I went last month to New Orleans, and I visited the Lower 9th Ward. The Lower 9th Ward was one of the poorest neighborhoods in New Orleans, and still is. If you go now it’s a total war zone. Multiple levees broke nearby during Katrina, washing away houses. There are barely any houses, it’s like a graveyard with the littered foundations of houses scattered around. Slowly, people are moving back to new homes in the 9th ward, where their families have lived for generations.

So Brad Pitt wants to help out, which is great, New Orleans still needs help. So he’s been building houses. Sounds great, right? Well, no. He’s building completely green, solar powered houses, in what is basically a ghetto. His plan is to sell these houses back to residents for cheap prices.

Well, what is cheap to Brad Pitt is not cheap to a poor New Orleanian after Hurricane Katrina. They can’t AFFORD to move back to where their houses once were, because Brad fricken’ Pitt is building new expenseive green, solar powered hosues for “cheap” prices’.

The houses don’t even FIT into the culture of architecture of New Orleans, they are completely out of place. It may not sound like a big deal, but something you need to see.

I don’t know, Brad Pitt is trying to help, but he’s making it worse. People who have lived in the Ward for generations, can’t afford to move back. It’s something Pitt hasn’t thought out.

Amen to that.

That just goes to show you, sometimes having good intentions doesn’t mean you’re fit to run. I mean, you could really, really want to help people, but if you use your power over them wrong, you really end up hurting them. I feel that way about a lot of leaders. While I think that an actor CAN be a good politician (like Reagan), just being a pop culture icon doesn’t mean you have what it takes to actually have a real position of power.

Exactly, there are PLENTY of ways to be a humanitarian, without becoming the leader of a nation.

I looked up his educational background right now. He went to University of Missouri, and majored in Journalism with a focus in advertising. I personally like the people representing me in both state senate and in US Congress to have an educated background in politics, history, economics, and the like. Not all politicians have majored in these fields, but a lot of them worked in something related to give them the experience.

I don’t know, Brad Pitt is a Hollywood actor who studied advertising in college. Just doesn’t seem right for a politician, but whatever.

I agree. I wouldn’t want him, I guess I should say, in a spot of authority. His money can do great things! He can help lots of people with what he has, but I really hope he doesn’t become a politician. I don’t think he’s the right kind of guy.
