[C2 SPOILERS!] Let's Talk About Mater and Holley...

How cool! It didn’t occur to me at all.

I’ve been thinking… and I don’t really see Holley saying “I’m Mater’s girlfriend” as a definite sign that she actually means it. I think it’s more of a joke between them, because they seem more like close platonic friends than having any sort of romantic feelings for each other. I’m not saying the possibility should be ruled out that they’d get together later, but as of the end of the film, Mater and Holly definitely seem more like they are joking around than anything else. Besides, Guido and Luigi didn’t believe Mater at the beginning of the movie, so it would fit into the whole comedy idea that Holley would want to say it just to astonish them at the end.

It could have seemed that way… if the writers hadn’t gone out of the way to make Lizzie compare them and have Mack comment that they were perfect for each other. It reeeeaaaallly felt like the writers went out of their way to beat the audience over the head with “yes they are a couple” at the end.

:open_mouth: I hope they are a couple. I think they are.

Yeah, they seriously beat it into us that they are. I don’t get why we’re concerned about that. XD

Sorry to DP, but I just found an exclusive Fandango video and… I nearly died laughing at the segment where they interviewed Holley and Mater’s voice actors. XD

Fandango: If there were a Cars 3, what scenario would you like to see?
Emily: Babies. I want to see Mater and Holley’s babies. What they look like.
Larry: I think we need to slow down a little on the relationship here.
Emily: See, he thinks I’m being too fast about this.
Larry: Mater isn’t ready for that.

8D

I’ll be honest, I never saw it comming. I thought it was Finn and Holly.
This pairing is adorable. You got your run of the mill working man and your more up beat girl in the fast lane.
One of my fave pairings in a Pixar film.

I’m starting to wonder if I’m the only one who saw it coming without seeing any of the obviously-pairing-them-up promotional images? I… I have this ability to tell from glances what the relationship between two characters will be like.

It’s… kinda pathetic, really.

Anyways, pictures!

Hilarious international poster. Holley is less than amused:

Promotional screencap. Once again, Mater thinks he’s such a charmer. At least in this one Holley doesn’t look ready to drive off in terror. XD :

Cap from the disguise sequence when Mater is messing around with the computer. Despite having started to warm up to Mater at this point, Holley can only take so much:

Aaaaand this one is from near the end of the movie. In case anybody still isn’t sure Holley was serious about liking Mater, just look at her expression.Dawwwwwwww:

(There were like, a bajillion more cute expression towards the end of the movie, but featurettes and TV spots only offer so much. Just wait until I get my hands on the DVD. >D)

Another great expressions!scene that I can’t find any caps from is when Mater is introducing Holley as his date to Finn. Finn… looks like he’s going to laugh for a minute there. I can’t tell if he ships them or just enjoys Holley being stuck out of her comfort zone.

The thing about Mater and Holley is that they’re so cute in the movie… The “dents” thing… AWWWWWWWWWWWWW…

But it was kind of underdeveloped. I think there was some emotion in the movie, but with more time it could have been a lot more developed. I think maybe it would’ve put some emotion of the Mater-Holley thing was played WAY up.

Obviously in the movie, Mater likes Holley, but it takes awhile for her to understand him. I think it would have been worth making the movie 10 minutes longer to have some deeper Mater-Holley scenes, like them talking to each other, as opposed to making the viewer rely on the subtle things.

The way it is now, most people missed the genius of this pairing, and film, really. Anyone concur?

Yeah, in general there was a lot less time allotted to romantic subplots in Cars 2 than the first Cars. I’m still not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, economy of time. Pixar’s focus was the broken friendship between Mater and Lightning, and they still managed to make M/H work even if it wasn’t focus, so on that hand it’s hard to complain. They used great economy of time with a lot of plot.

On the other, I would like to see more of them. Please let there be shorts. Or comics. Or deleted scenes. Or SOMETHING ELSE for me to geek over. I mean L/S got cuddles and cuteness and yeah. %D;

Hopefully, there will be plenty of Mater-Holley romance in [spoil]Cars 3: Leeland Turbo’s Revenge[/spoil]

PFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFT. XD

It’d be funny if they did another set of Tall Tales and Holley was incorporated in them.

Oh my gosh, I would freak out! haha

“What happened?! Don’t you two remember? I mean, yous was both there! :B”

That is actually…an amazing detail I never noticed. 1,000 more points for Pixar! Actually, I saw something about Holley that interested me. I was quickly looking through The Art of Cars 2 and there were a couple of (I’m guessing) early paintings with Holley in them but she was a Porsche! I couldn’t look at it for long or read anything, but I was wondering if Pixar was really thinking of making another female Porsche character and love interest, too.

(What page are you seeing that? I can’t find it.)

Insert twins from Italy sequence joke here?

idk.

It’s on a page with only the painting and it said something like “Spycraft”. It was of Mater, Finn, and Holley on the plane.

checks …Huh, she does look like a Sally recolor there. XD

Doesn’t she?! I thought it was Sally for a second. 8D Well, I’m glad they decided not to make her a Porsche. That would just be way too repetitive.

Anything with Holley in them would make me so happy!
