Upon closer examination of this shot, I noticed that while most everybody is just like :open_mouth: Lightning and Sally are both extremely happy with this development.

The epilogue is one of my all-time favorite parts in the movie. I love when Mater yells that Finn’s a secret agent and not to tell anybody. 8D I laughed so hard at everyone’s faces when Holley says she’s Mater’s girlfriend. “HOW IN THE WORLD-? :open_mouth:” and of course, Guido’s reaction- since he didn’t believe him the whole movie. :laughing:

They are! I bet they’re thinking “Yessssss, no more interruptions.” 8D
or you know they’re just genuinely happy for him- yes, that too. o_0

Awww, yes! I love their looks at each other too! <3 I like the way Finn is like smiling knowingly at her in the second cap. And also how Lightning is smiling at Mater- it’s like “Aww, my best friend’s in love.” :smiley:

I’ve been distracted so by how awkward Holley looks when she introduces herself to Mater, that I’ve seen this movie like seven times and just now noticed Mater’s reaction.

“H-Hello. 8/”

“WELL HELLOOO~ B) WIGGLES EYEBROWS”

(On a serious note, It makes it all the more adorable and telling that he goes off in a ramble afterward. Mater already is attracted to Holley, but is sure of who he is so much that he doesn’t even consider changing his attitude to impress a girl. It makes it all the more heartbreaking later when he becomes self aware and starts asking “what if I screw up?”)

Hahahahahahaha! 8D I noticed Holley’s awkwardness but not Mater’s reaction. That’s so cute. Smooth, Mater, smooth. :wink: I love how by the time he wiggles his eyebrows, she’s looking in the other direction. :laughing:

I also like the part in this scene where she asks him if there’s someplace else they can go and he’s just like, “Uhh, jeez. Don’t you think that’s a little-? o_0” 8D

8D I laughed so hard at that part. Mater- :wink:. Holley- :shock:. But then very quickly after this part was when I started to get officially annoyed with Mater and it just elevated throughout the movie. :-\

Holley is trying soooooo hard to keep smiling and go along with it, but she’s not one for weirdness and eventually snaps at him.

One of the things about this relationship that I like is Mater’s ability to bring out traits in Holley that would otherwise remain dormant. One of those is a more emotional side, but it also brings out a bit of leadership ability and confidence.

Mater’s lack of spy smarts OR experience means Holley has somebody even less experienced on the field than she is, and it doesn’t take long into their first encounter for her to take charge, even though before then she’d been doing nothing but following Finn around like a lost child.

This dynamic is also seen later in the casino sequence.

Which, while I didn’t put aside caps for it to post here, I have to mention the casino sequence. For some reason I find the little exchange between them during that to be really cute.

"Wow, this place looks like it’s made of gold!"

"That’s because it is Mater. Now, be careful what to say."

"Why’s that? 
What do you mean don’t talk to you
 So you want me to stop talking to you? Right now?"

There’s this ease in conversations the two of them, even early on. Because Holley sees Mater as being closer to equal footing with her (I wouldn’t doubt that Holley had a sense of Mater being beneath her in spy skills, even while Finn was saying how great he was, at the back of her mind) [i:7whfpxff]she’s a lot more open with him. I agree with what you said about Mater bringing out those traits in Holley. I also think he brought out something in her about just letting loose and having fun, not always taking things so seriously (maybe some of that in Finn also).

LOL yes, Finn. Holley is surrounded by less serious characters. XD

Although, while Finn tries to get her to loosen up a few times, I think Holley is too busy looking up to him for it to really get through to her. It took somebody on a more or less equal playing field. Finn ends up being more of a mentor to Holley, but it’s also clear he trusts her more than she trusts herself.

I put absolutely no blame on Mater for mistaking this for a date. I mean, come on. It’s like “flirty” is a spy’s default communication setting. 8D

Mater’s smitten expressions during him telling the others about his date/telling Holley he’ll see her tomorrow are so cute. He’s all smitten and like “lol I’m such a stud. :B” :unamused:

Holley speeding up to get away to avoid cover being blown and probably also out of embarrassment was great too. And Lightning CRINGES. He’s not as blunt as Luigi, but it’s apparent he doesn’t believe Mater either. XD

Right?! Well, James Bond kind of set that tone. :unamused: But especially when Finn and Holley first say ‘hello’ to each other. I don’t care what anyone says- it was flirty. Even when she first looks at him.

Yeah, I would do a quick getaway, too. 8D LOL, I don’t think anyone one of them believed him, especially Guido. 8D I just noticed that Guido can “fold” his little “arms”, that’s cute.
