^LG: The thing about the package films is that they’re a hit or miss for most people. Because they have no story. So if that sort of thing bothers you, then don’t expect much! And I noticed especially that Three Caballeros divides opinions. Because it’s starts out wanting to be an educational film, and sure they throw in some Portuguese words and segments about the History of the Mexican flag. But I feel like half way through, the director was like “Screw it, juts have Donald skirt chase for the last third of the movie”. Despite it’s trippy qualities, I really enjoy it.
You should see Fun and Fancy Free. I just thought that the first half was bland. The second half has a GREAT story about Mickey, Donald, and Goofy. The only problem is that’ it’s narrated by these TERRIBLE puppets.
Lion King. It’s just so great. I love the characters, songs, backgrounds, animation, story. I can’t think of an aspect that disappointed me! It’s my favorite Disney film.
And yes, Princess and the Frog is a great treat, I’m glad that you enjoyed it. As for Winnie the Pooh, if they couldn’t of added more to the story then I think they should of put in another short. Two shorts and then the film. If they didn’t want to put money into a new short, they could of replayed an older Donald or Mickey one. Get more for you money.
Very true, not so bad out of 50 films. I just don’t like Fun and Fancy Free, Aristocrats, Treasure Island, Chicken Little, Rescuers. And then some are just okkay, and then many are great.
Oh, they don’t bother me, but I won’t rush to see all of them. The ones I’d like to see the most are SA, TCC, and TAoI&Mr.T. So I’ll watch Fun and Fancy Free then. I want to see them all just so I have an opinion of every Disney movie.
Agreed. Also with Disney’s management constantly changing over the eras, of course there were bound to be different ranges of stinkers and winners along the way. But I love a handful, and many I really like, and the rest are mostly just fine with a few also being not so good.
Does anyone remember The Great Mouse Detective? For some strange reason I had a short dream about it last night. I’d only seen it ONCE (when I was about 7 or 8, I’m 18 now) but I remember some parts fairly well, one of which was that incredible climatic sequence set on top of Big Ben. I do recall that scene being very intense and action-packed, especially during the interior with all the large clock gears. They don’t make them like that anymore.
Maybe I should. Problem is I’m not into Disney/Pixar flicks right now as I’m too busy exploring films of the more “mature” age range that include sci-fi, action, horror and even thriller. I’d be interested in giving it another look though.
Oh yeah, The Great Mouse Detective is a good movie. I barely saw it for the first time about two months ago, love the detective element of it. Both Basil and Ratigan are very good and charismatic characters. Oh yeah, and IV, I have now seen Atlantis . I like it, but I think I might to give it an extra try because I feel like I missed out on something. I think it’s because I was all alone when I saw it and I didn’t have the volume turned up that loud. Sometimes watching it with others help, that’s how my appreciation for The Princess and the Frog recently increased, for example. So I’ll watch it again soon and hopefully I’ll like it even more!
I remember The Great Mouse Detective. The Big Ben climax scene was pretty innovative for its time as it showcased how the use of computer animation could take the medium to new heights.
Me too! I love Pinocchio. It’s one of those more overshadowed films, but I thought it was very well made. I agree with EJE that it deserves to be called the greatest Disney film. I actually don’t necessarily disagree with any of your list, Ballboi. It’s very good!
