High five! We must have good taste.
I guess I’ll do a top 10 for now. Keep in mind these are my personal opinions.
- Lion King
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame
- Pinocchio
- Beauty and the Beast
- Aladdin
- The Princess and the Frog
- Tangled
8 Snow White - The Emperor’s New Groove
- The Little Mermaid
That’s a pretty good top 10 list.
Yeah, I appriciate that HOTR has an interesting character design, I like how it has it’s own feel to it. But yeah, the characters and jokes don’t make up for it. (I however, like the songs)
I haven’t seen the whole Black Cauldron, but I want to. I like how it’s influenced by Welsh Methology, but that white creature thing freaks me the f out.
This. And yes, my favorite element is the yodeling song
Thanks QOP!
Yes, that song is epically cool.
I think PATF is definitely underated, at least to me anyways.
PATF is kind of a weird one to rank, because there are many aspects of it that are just awesome and incredibly appealing to me, and yet the actual heart of the story is lacking, which I consider too important to glance over. Basically, I think its pros and cons are:
Yay: Visuals, setting, animation, plot (at least I don’t mind it), going back to the roots/hand-drawn animation, visual style of “Almost There” sequence, protagonist is a working woman
Nay (ish): Story not fleshed out well enough, main characters not portrayed strongly enough, more weak songs than strong ones, some weak side characters
I will admit that the songs in PATF are a bit forgettable. The villain was cool and it was great to Disney revert back to 2D animation. Who knows what Disney would be like now if it hadn’t underperformed.
I liked it. It’s jokes for me anyway actually worked. Sure they were animal puns but they worked for animal puns and some actually got a laugh out of me. It’s also got fast pacing, a unique art style (including part of the background being paintings) and the villian song’s catchy to me. But it’s characters aren’t that good or underdeveloped (though not unbearable) and it’s plot is, well, like a basic plot for a TV show adapted movie. But it’s likable and better than people give it credit for.
Since you atill are a kid pretty mich you were pretty small when it came out. I’m sure if I was 6 when it came out I would have a diffrent opinion on it. But I was 12 and starting to grow up.
Here is Doug Walker’s review on the film for Disneycember. I pretty much agree with him 100%.

I made a topic for his Disneycember reviews. Maybe I’ll update it and out all the reviews on there.
Well, I’ve been putting it off for weeks, but I’ve finally gotten around to assembling my list!
To keep it fair, I’ve only included Disney movies that I’ve seen in the past year or so, because trying to remember films I saw when I was 8 is difficult.
Okay, I just re-watched Pocahontas yesterday, so a little bit of shuffling is in order. I don’t know whether it was because I was sleep-deprived or just in a weird mood, but I was trying to hold back the tears all through Colors of the Wind and the last few scenes.
- The Lion King
- Tangled
- Mulan
- Tarzan
- Hercules
- Pocahontas
- Beauty and the Beast
- The Princess and the Frog
- The Hunchback of Notre Dame
- Aladdin
- Lilo and Stitch
- Treasure Planet
- The Little Mermaid
- Sleeping Beauty
- Atlantis: The Lost Empire
- The Emperor’s New Groove
- Cinderella
- Alice in Wonderland
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
- Meet the Robinsons
- Bolt
That’s a great list!!
Hello, guys! After not being on in forever, I decided perhaps I could come back with list of my favorite Disney classic films rankings. Here it is. Some of you will probably not like my choices, but that’s okay. Also, I’ve only seen 30, so those are the only ones ranked. Plus, I have a couple of ties, but I hope that’s not a problem.

28. The Sword in the Stone
29. The Rescuers
30. Chicken Little
Now mind you all, I don’t hate any of these films. I’m very forgiving when it comes to Disney movies. As you can see, I’ve got a thing for Pooh . He and his friends are my faves and always will be. My favorite stories are the kinds that are mostly fun but still have a lot of heart, but not too overdramatic. The lowest ranked Chicken Little, I do not think is great or that good by any means, even if I was looking forward to it before it came out. I think it could have been way better, but since I did laugh hard a few (a few) times, I can’t hate it (even if I was laughing at how ridiculous or impossible something was). Poor guy, I kind of like it at times. It’s not Chicken Little the star I have a problem with. I like him, and his friends were okay at times; it’s just the movie he was in seems like it lost some potential, that’s all. However, I have a strong feeling that ALL of these movies will be bumped down a spot in about a month by a certain bad guy. Except for probably the mighty Pooh king of course! Or perhaps Ralph will tie with him. All I can say is, I’ve never been so excited for a Disney (as in Disney) film before!
EDIT: You know what? I’m not even sure how accurate this is. It’s pretty accurate, but I just find myself having a hard time ranking Disney films when there’s something to like about pretty much all of them. All of these films I think are likeable if even to the smallest degree, and being a devoted fan I don’t like to down-talk them. Obviously I like some better than others, but if I were to re-do this, I think there would be more ties. Anyway…
Sorry for double-posting, but it’s been months since the previous post. Since I really didn’t know what I was doing on my last post, I’m just going to give my top 4 which all rank at #1, and then most honorable mentions. Hope this one turns out a little better.
#1a) Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: There’s always something to be said for the original, and this is no exception. This is almost like a guide to future Disney films on what a good story can be, and an optional story formula for some of the other movies (just as long as they take an original route). Snow White is a caring and an endearing princess, the dwarfs are each unique and enjoyable and I’ll never forget playing Grumpy in a school play in 6th grade. This was a great first film, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
#1b) The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh: Pooh is probably my favorite Disney character of all time. Who doesn’t enjoy him and all his friends simply being pleasant and fun to be around? It’s also not so babyish or childish as many people would think. There’s a lot of humor that can have adults cracking up in this movie. I think it’s also the first movie I’ve ever seen, and I’ll never grow old of it.
#1c) Winnie the Pooh: I love it. Great sequel/reboot that reminds me of why I always thought Pooh and pals were awesome! It even has its own new spin which I like a lot without straying away from the heart of the original.
#1d): Wreck-It Ralph: Disney’s deliberate definition of awesome! I’m really glad to have seen this movie! Reminds me of the world Toy Story but is clearly a Disney film when you watch it. It’s not rude or dumb and doesn’t try to be hip. It’s just about Ralph proving to everyone he can be a nice guy even if he’ll always stay “bad”. Vanellope, Felix, and Calhoun are equally as cool. It has also has one of my favorite Disney songs, “When Can I See You Again?”. The effort put into this film deserves this high a spot on my list.
Now, in no particular order:
Honorable mentions (for Walt Disney’s involvement in childhood favorites):
Pinocchio, Dumbo (yay, John Lasseter’s favorite!), Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone, The Jungle Book.
Honorable mentions (Renaissance films):
Beauty and the Beast: not just a great story, but very heartfelt and unexpectedly funny as well!
Aladdin: fun comedy that makes it a nice fit for Disney’s history.
The Lion King: good movie worth watching, sensational and inspiring
Pocahontas: (barely saw it today 1st time) honestly, for being quite better than I imagined; not boring like I heard it may be
Tarzan: cool movie, lots of fun, my 1st Disney (not Pixar) film in theaters
Post-Renaissance and Pre-Lasseter:
The Emperor’s New Groove: HAHAHA FUNNY!
Lilo and Stitch: Really cool, awesome characters and nice heartfelt moments
Lasseter:
Bolt: sweet, inspired, funny, and touching; you’ll have a newfound respect for pets everywhere!
Tangled: fun adventure, unique, great in 3D, and one you won’t want to miss!
I like your lists… diverse selection!
I know I’m late on this message, but thanks Leirin! My taste in movies always varies. So if it’s good, then I like it!
So I mentioned in the Pixar ranking thread that for Disney movies, I rank by era, because I would do it any other way! So here we go:
GOLDEN AGE
Favorite: Dumbo
It’s Disney’s simplist, but it’s also one of it’s most effective
Least Favorite: Bambi
I don’t know, just boring.
PACKAGE ERA
Favorite: The Three Caballeros
Schizophrenic. It has it’s sexist and unsettling moments. But I love the vibrant colors, and it has one of my favorite pieces of character animation in any Disney film. And just the history of this movie is so fascinating.
Least Favorite: Fun and Fancy Free
The first half is BORING. The second part would be good, if it wasn’t so UNSETTLING
SILVER AGE
Favorite: Lady and the Tramp
Gorgeous, great characters, full of personality, very adult
Least Favorite: Peter Pan
It’s good. But I had to choose a least favorite, and it’s this.
DARK AGES:
Favorite: The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Disney did a brilliant and mostly faithful job retelling this
Least Favorite: The Rescuers
Lazy and terrible animation (as with most Dark Age films) and very forgetable
(I haven’t seen Black Cauldron in it’s entirety)
RENAISSANCE:
Favorite: The Lion King
Do I need to explain this?
Least Favorite: Pocahontas
Still amazing, but I do cringe at the inaccuracy.
POST RENAISSANCE:
Favorite: Lilo and Stitch
Fun, unique, beautiful. What more do you want?
Least Favorite: Dinosaur
I don’t remember anything of this film.
NE0-RENAISSANCE:
Favorite: Princess and the Frog
A great return!
Least Favorite: Winnie the Pooh
Wish it were longer
Now the least favorites? I still like them! The only ones I hate are Fun and Fancy Free and The Rescuers.
Nice list, ellie-jessie-eve. It’s nice that you simplified things and just chose the best and least-greatest of each era. I LOVE all of the favorites you picked from the list. Also, I need to see The Three Caballeros! I actually haven’t seen any of the six back-to-back package films, mostly because I didn’t know they existed until a few years ago. Also, maybe I shouldn’t see Fun and Fancy Free? But anyway…
RENAISSANCE:
Favorite: The Lion King
Do I need to explain this?NE0-RENAISSANCE:
Favorite: Princess and the Frog
A great return!
Least Favorite: Winnie the Pooh
Wish it were longer
Uh, yeah! At least say “Hakuna Matata” or somethin’? Sorry, I’m just kidding! I really like The Lion King. It’s very unique and it’s different than most Disney films and films in general.
I re-watched The Princess and the Frog recently and before I used to just like it, but now I love it. I don’t know why, it just grabbed me a lot more this time for some reason. And sadly, I also wish Winnie the Pooh was longer, but I do like the comedy approach that they took.
And right, which Disney film is so hard to like anyway? Maybe like 5 or fewer of them, but nothing besides that, really.
