Shrek is a load of crap in many ways. But it isn’t “technically” a ripoff, no matter how much wish I could say it was.
I still don’t see how Oliver is that bad. I suppose I’m just dense, but I think it’s in the middle.

Any Disney films you guys want to be put on blu ray?
I’m glad to see this movie get some love.
Brother Bear. I don’t think it’s been released. It’s not the greatest Disney movie by far, but I think it’s underrated and deserves some more love than it gets. Most people don’t even know it exists.
I agree that poor Brother Bear is underrated. It’s still near the bottom of my list, but I think it’s at least worth a watch.
I’d like to see The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and Pocahontas on blu-ray. Maybe even Tarzan.
To be fair though, just because a film is low on a list doesn’t mean it’s very bad. For me anyway, the only Disney films I’d consider truly bad movies are Home on the Range and Chicken Little.
Is Home on the Range really that bad? As for Chicken Little, I saw it in theaters. It was enjoyable up until the end. It had such a cheesy ending. I was hoping the aliens would get defeated.
I would like Tarzan and Hunchback on bluray. I would say Aladdin but it’s already coming.
I totally agree. There are some I’m not in love with, but only those are truly horrible movies in general.
And I like Brother Bear well enough!! Out of the ones most people hate, I definitely prefer Atlantis(my love <3) and Meet the Robinsons. But Brother Bear is entertaining enough.
I would love for Hunchback to get a Blu-Ray release. It’s been about 10 years since the film has been released on home video. Of course, not with its sequel like Disney is doing with Pocahontas this summer.
Honestly, I just recently got most of my Disney DVDs so I would not buy most Disney blu rays.
The main thing going against Chicken Little for me has always been how hodge-podge the plot is. It’s like they tried combining a father/son buddy movie with a slapstick comedy mixed with random sci-fi elements and none of it really…sticks.
I personally appreciated the art style of the film, and I liked the soundtrack. But besides that, there’s not that much going for the film.
Yes, it’s all very unrelated. Also, the characters are lame, and the jokes are so cheap.
I haven’t seen Chicken Little in a long time, so I can’t say what I think.
Hunchback dosen’t even have a 2 disc special edition release. And with the film getting more populer you think it would. I’m sure more people want Hunchback on blu ray then Home on the Range.
I sure would. I haven’t seen Home on the Range but I remember the animation in that film was awful.
Well, I’ve been putting it off for weeks, but I’ve finally gotten around to assembling my list!
To keep it fair, I’ve only included Disney movies that I’ve seen in the past year or so, because trying to remember films I saw when I was 8 is difficult.
Anyway, altogether there are 21 Disney animated features that I’ve seen recently (not quite the full 51, but still rather impressive for such a short time span!). Hopefully, over the coming months, I’ll watch and re-watch the rest of them so I can get a full list.
Keep in mind that this isn’t on a scale from “absolutely adore” to “vehemently despise”, I would gladly sit down and watch any of the films on my list. Based on what I remember of Chicken Little however, I think my scale might change quite significantly by the time I get a full list up.
Explanations in the spoiler below!
1. The Lion King - First place was a toss-up between this and Tangled… then I played the first few minutes to decide and was 100% in favour of TLK taking the top spot. The Circle of Life still gives me the shivers when I hear it.
2. Tangled - Great animation, great voice acting and great soundtrack. I would have preferred if Disney had stuck with calling it Rapunzel rather than changing the name to appeal to boys, but what are you going to do. The I See the Light sequence was one of only three times I’ve ever cried during a Disney movie - the other two were during Up and Toy Story 3.
3. Mulan - Awesome soundtrack, great plot. Mulan would have to be one of my favourite Disney Princesses - mainly because she’s the complete opposite of conventional ‘princesses’.
4. Tarzan - I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS SOUNDTRACK. Tarzan would have to be my favourite movie when it comes to the music, but plot/character/whatever-wise, it comes in fourth. The film is incredibly deep (believe me… I chose to write a 6000 word essay on how ‘belonging’ is conveyed in the movie for my end-of-school exams that determined which university I’d go to.
5. Aladdin - Awesome soundtrack, great plot. Aladdin is one of the first Disney movies I ever remember watching, so there is a sort of sentimentality attached to it. Jafar was an awesome villain, as well.
6. Hercules - I used to hate Hercules because it is so, so, so mythologically inaccurate, but then I realised it was a Disney film and there is no way they’d ever adapt the actual story accurately. One of my favourite soundtracks, despite the fact that motown African Americans make absolutely no sense as the Greek Muses. I’ve actually got Zero to Hero stuck in my head at the moment.
7. Beauty and the Beast - Love how good the dance scene is and I also love the majority of the songs. Belle is without a doubt my favourite Disney Princess because of her love of books and adventure. Gaston’s a pretty good villain as well, and by far the hairiest.
8. Pocahontas - I like how the film doesn’t end with a conventional happy ending. The filmmakers seemed to have chosen not to go through the traditional “and they all lived happily ever after” ending, and it really pays off. Awesome soundtrack, as well.
9. The Hunchback of Notre Dame Hunchback is number nine sorely for Frollo… my absolute favourite Disney villain. Who else has a song detailing their strange lust for the heroine?
10. Lilo and Stitch - I never thought much of Lilo and Stitch until I watched it for the first time in years a few weeks ago. I love the soundtrack, the plot, everything. I also like how they chose to make it a broken home - not exactly something you’d see in conventional childrens’ films.
11. The Princess and the Frog - Charlotte is hands-down my favourite supporting character in any of the Disney movies. Everything she does makes me crack up laughing - from her telling Tiana about the Mardi Gras to her adjusting herself before meeting Naveen. I also admire Tiana’s hard working attitude… although her getting everything she wanted by marrying Naveen at the end was a bit of a cop-out.
12. Treasure Planet - I love the way they adapted Treasure Island… if only they’d do some more films like this. The combination of 2D and 3D, especially in parts like the Spaceport and while they’re in space is incredible, as well.
13. The Little Mermaid - Eh, I’ve never really been a big fan of Ariel. Honestly, she’s have to be my least favourite Disney Princess because of the “give up everything, including your greatest skill, to be with the person you think you’re in love with”. Ursula makes up for it though, I honestly wasn’t surprised when I found out she’s been modelled off a drag queen, she totally looks the part.
14. Sleeping Beauty - Maleficent is pure evil, and I love it. Scar, Hades, Gaston… they’re all bad, but none of them are as cold hearted, drop-dead evil as Maleficent is.
15. Atlantis: The Lost Empire - Like I’ve mentioned in another topic, my main gripe with this film is how the unveiling of the antagonist is supposed to be a shocking surprise, but it’s rather obvious who’s the bad guy from his first appearance. I love the rest of the film though, especially the scenes with Kida. It bums me out that she’s not included as one of the Disney Princesses (she’s more of a princess than Mulan is…), but I guess little girls don’t want to play with white-haired, tattooed dolls.
16. The Emperor’s New Groove - Yzma and Kronk are hilarious, as well as Kuzco through most of the film. Definitely better than how I remembered it, but I’d still prefer to watch their original vision of the film.
17. Cinderella - While Hades is bad and Maleficent is pure evil, Lady Tremaine is just mean. Absolutely positively mean. I love how clumsy and bumbling the Fairy Godmother is compared to, say, the Blue Fairy from Pinocchio, as well.
18. Alice in Wonderland - I’ve never been a big fan of this version of Wonderland. I prefer Burton’s version (but with a lot less Mad Hatter… seriously, that man feels the need to stretch out Johnny Depp’s parts to the point where he becomes the main character), while American McGee’s twisted Wonderland takes first place. Still, the animated Wonderland’s still great.
19. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - Mother of all animated films aside, I’ve never really been into the story that much. It’s not just the Disney Snow White that bores me, it’s the whole fairytale side. Still, it’s a great movie, and the Queen manages to rival even Maleficent in evil-ness.
20. Meet the Robinsons - Like Atlantis, my main problem with the film is that most of the ‘shocking’ plot twists are pretty obvious. I worked out the family connection pretty early on in the film, and Goob/Bowler Hat Guy is a pretty annoying character. Still, I love the end sequence.
21. Bolt - The film really didn’t move me that much at all - I actually got quite bored during the fire scene at the end. I like the whole ‘road trip across the country’ aspect of it though, and Mittens transformation from ice queen to house cat was extremely fun to watch. Miley Cyrus’ voice acting was annoying as anything though, so many voice pops.
Honestly, I just recently got most of my Disney DVDs so I would not buy most Disney blu rays.
See, that’s what I told myself when the blu-rays started coming out, but I’ve still bought a few of them. I think I’ve decided that I won’t go out of my way to purchase many more, however, unless I feel they’ll look noticeably more stunning and/or there’s some sweet bonus features. I just can’t keep up! There are a lot more coming out, too. All new/future Disney animated movies, however, I will buy on blu-ray.
I find it funny that I keep wanting to rescue HOTR from being criticized, as it often is, despite being at the bottom of my own Disney rankings. Make no mistake, I still consider it a failure as far as Disney films go. But I do agree with eje that the art style is cute and charming, and I even like one of the songs. Not sure about the animation being horrible, because I see it as a departure from traditional Disney style and more towards older, quirkier cartoons. Whether one style is preferred over another (I prefer traditional Disney) is irrelevant because it’s like comparing apples to oranges. For me, I consider the story, characters, screenplay, and general concept more of the issue.
Really, I will gladly watch almost any Disney movie and at least somewhat enjoy it and be entertained with the exception of three: Oliver and Company, The Black Cauldron, and Chicken Little. I think Home on the Range is kind of borderline.
I will admit the aniamation for HOTR is nice, But the plot is just boring and so are the character’s, jokes and songs. It’s a film for little kids. I was 12 when this came out going on 13 in a few monuths, I fought it looked dumb then too.
I know people hate The Black Cauldron. But I have never seen it so I might watch it one day soon.
queen_of_painting dislikes the same Disney films that me!
