Captain Pan's Gallery

Some work done… with a little guidance (well a whole lot of help) from Mitch…

Not 100% Happy… but then Its the biggest movement in the right direction I’ve made in a long while!

A La Box

A La Plate…

First one looks to thin… Second one looks a bit fat with a black eye… So quite a bit to be improved!

I love the detail on Carl’s house! I agree with ffdude1906’s comments that the house is too short, but other than that, it’s very well done!
And Mitch must have gave you good advice, because that piece of Russell is simple yet beautiful! It’s gotta one of my recent favourites from you.
The one of Stinky Pete ain’t bad either. I liked the first over the second because like you said, the second has a weird eye and I just liked the chipped tooth in the first more.
If you’re feeling brave, why not try doing full-portraits (Forgive me if you’d done any before)? The majority of your pics are simply mugshots and mostly using markers, so I’d love to see you try something more ‘adventurous’. But as it is, you’re doing a great job!

Not sure I’ve done a full-portraits… Not Sure Who I’d do or what I’d do!

What do we mean by adventurous TDIT?

Thanks for the comments I’m sure I can improve some more… and get those pesky portions right!

I mean doing full-portraits, using other tools like graphite, crayons, WACOM… doing situational pictures (so, like two Pixar characters interacting, like Dug hanging onto Kevin’s foot, etc.), trying genre crossovers or mash-ups…

You know, exploring your full artistic range, pushing your talents and capabilities, venturing into the great unknown…

The Wilderness must be explored!

Now I understand TDIT I’ll try and venture that way once in a while… perhaps I don’t try them its cause I don’t feel confident enough to do so as all my drawings come from sources and I my focus is always on making the face (eyes in particular) right, hence the pictures mostly being mugshots!

Oooh, absolutely fabulous Captain Pan. Really neatly done.

Thank You TSS… I’ve been rather down on my images lately… so I returned to my techinal drawing ability with Alpha… Lines and measurements with a ruler…

Done another 2 tonight… and Mitch has rather kindly guided me via Skype as to how I would/could improve them…

Tried Something a Little Different too…

Lines with a ruler and measurement in abundance there… but then… That is what I did my GCSE in Graphic Products and spent a year doing tech drawing!

and before I ink it in… well the outline at least

Happier about my Russell here… just seemed a little easier… and more fun to draw!

Russell’s so adorable! That’s nice of Mitch to help you out. Stinky Pete looks pretty cool. It neat seeing two different versions of him and seeing how you’ve improved! Keep it up! I like all the geometric angles of Alpha.

Edit:
You posted more before I finished my post! Eve and Wall E look really nice. I can tell you spent a year doing tech drawing! Russell and Dug look so adorable! You’ve made Russell more angular than he usually is, but I like your style you added to him! I like seeing your line art before it is inked. It has a nice quality. I almost prefer that to your inked drawings. (I’m a sucker for sketches)

Hannahmation, Thank you for your comments… and I’m sorry for making you go back and edit it!

It was extremely nice for Mitch to lend me her talents… and I think she’s really helped me… and has restored some of that faith and belief in myself that I lost during my teaching practice!

I was told there I wasn’t forthcoming enough when I wanted help… well today I think I took one big step in the right direction there!
Next Step get more confidence and offer to do some of the more vocal stuff around but thats for another topic!

Your thoughts Hannahmation on My Pencil Sketch of Russell and Dug have stopped me in my tracks… I was just about to ink it in and I stopped… Instead I am going to photocopy it… then ink the photocopy in… Just to see what it looks like… might do a couple of Photocopies too… Maybe a pencil colour… or a marker pen colour… See what each look like… Maybe even some Crosshatch like my Woody, Buzz, Mr Incredible and Monsters Inc logo on page 3…

Wow, that Dug and Russell pic really stands out, excellent, excellent job sir! I think I could use some coaching from Mitch too, with results like that! Good luck on the rest of your work!

What really stood out to me was the WALL-E and Mo picture. It looks like they are hugging, or at least trying to hug but poor MO can’t reach. Really cute and well done.

You are quite welcome and no need to apologize! Congrats on a taking a big step in the right direction! I know how hard it can be. I sometimes find it difficult to ask for help myself when I need it.

That’s really cool that you decided to make different versions of your Russell and Dug drawing! It’s always fun to mix things up a bit and try out various techniques. I can’t wait to see what they all look like!

Had another pretty busy day:
-Bring down and set up Wii for mum (She bought Wii Sports Resort… and it rules)

  • Wait in the house for the Gas man
-Draw another 2 Pictures from Up (would have said 3… But Charles’ Muntz really isn’t good enough)
-Go help children prepare for their grading next Sunday

Thanks for the comments guys… you always know how to add something to what was already satisfaction over those pictures!

ffdude1906: I’m sure If you were to ask The Wonderful Mitch she would provide you with some coaching! At the moment I am totally indebted to her great artistic talents!

The Star Swordsman: I didn’t see it like that… Well from some angles when I showed it to Mitch we questioned wether WALL-E was picking up or pushing M-O… I’m really glad you enjoyed

Hannahmation: Thank you ever so much for providing me with a Great confidence boost… Just wrote a list with the techniques I want to try on that picture… and the count is 6… and considering I really like my latest 2 Up additions… I think that turns the 6 pieces I plan to do tomorrow to 18  But thankfully there are Photocopiers to help me with that!

Also got to start planning 2 Birthday presents… Think One will include a Canvas board… and the other… Well we’ll see by the end of the week I think!

Now Time to Unviel My Pencil Versions…

I’m actually really really happy with these pictures… which Is a real surprise for me!

Those are really excellent! Fantastic job sir! You’d make Pete proud! I love how well you do the 2d art for the movie, it’s pretty neat

Might do something… like you did… pop them into a envelope and see what reaction I get… You’ve given me a nice boost in confidence these last few days ffdude1906… I really need to thank you for that!

Looking good, Captain Pan! It’s really neat to see the different versions of the drawings right next to each other! Although they all look good, my favorite are still the original pencil sketches! I really like the line quality in them.

Your Dug drawing is super adorable! You really captured Dug’s personality. The drawing of Russell and the balloons is really cute as well! The nice dynamic pose makes it seem like he is getting lifted up by the balloons! Keep it up!

Hannahmation you konw exactly what to say to bring a  across my face!

I like the Ink outlines with the Pencil Colours are my favourite… although with the Original Russell & Dug sketch its the plain original Pencil Sketch I’m preferring too!

Those are so cute! I see some improvement on drawing Russell. I agree with Hannahmation that it’s neat to see the different versions of the same pictures all together. Though the same pictures, they each have some different unique quality. They all look terrific! Keep up the great artwork!

Holly molly! :open_mouth: It’s like your artistic talents improved by leaps and bounds overnight! Kudos to Mitch for the great teaching! Seriously, Captain Pan, the last few Up sketches were amazing! I’m glad you’re reaching out beyond your comfort zone.

I like the Alpha sketch, the angular lines in this instance really suited his demeanor.

The Wall-E and M-O one, it’s good, I liked Wall-E’s eye-roll as he holds off M-O from making another bid to clean him again (at least, that’s how I interpreted it). Wall-E looks a bit ‘off’ as a side profile, but I guess it’s difficult to draw him in that angle. Maybe a 3/4 diagonal view (like how cars are shot in car ads) would be better to make them look less flat?

I have no qualms with your Up pics, though. I seriously think you had them nailed! The one of Russell hugging Dug is simply heart-melting, the guidelines were a nice touch, and the colour pencils and inks suit the soft, light-hearted mood. I especially like Russell’s smile.

The portrait of Dug is also great, he looks goofy, which suits his character to a T!

And the last of Russell and the balloons is adorable! Again, the colour pencils really fit the ‘look’, and I like the ‘action line’ of Russell’s body.

Fabulous, fantastic, fanart! Your earlier pieces didn’t quite catch my attention as your last few did, as the recent batch seem to have that extra ‘special’ something that just amazed me. Whatever that style was, please do more, and the thing about art is, don’t be afraid to experiment!
