Cars 2 confirmed (almost)

MB1000- Here’s how I see it, Iger sounded unsure, not only that but think about this, if he said he THINKS Cars 2 is happening, but in reality he KNOWS why didn’t he just announce it on the spot, or not say anything at all? I think he just said that to “Wow” the shareholders, after all he didn’t promise anything. I’m not saying it ISN’T happening, I’m saying this isn’t enough evidence.

Let’s go through this logically…

  1. No human knows everything.
  2. Bob Iger is a human.
  3. Therefore, Bob Iger doesn’t know everything.

And here’s another one!

  1. No non-Pixar employee knows about far future Pixar releases
  2. Bob Iger does not work for Pixar.
  3. Therefore, Bob Iger does not know about far future Pixar releases.

YAY!!!

A113, you said:

Bob Iger would be one of the first to know when a new story is being developed at Pixar. Pixar is independent of Disney’s other studios and divisions, but not of the Walt Disney Company itself.

Just thought I should point that out…

Disney did not buy Pixar to take over Pixar, they bought Pixar to make money off of their genius.

If Pixar doesn’t want to spoil secrets (which they don’t), then there’s no way they’d tell Bob Iger, since he can’t keep a secret as well as Pixar themselves.

And Bob wouldn’t mind anyway. Good for you, Bob!

Not really. Seriously, FN’s ending just wraps everything up. The characters that needed to learn something learned something, the bond is stronger, and everyone involved gets a happy ending. Adding to that makes little sense.

Your logic A113, although deductive in reasoning, is slightly flawed. You have to accept the first premise, which I don’t.

Bob Iger is the head of the Walt Disney Company, by his job position rights, he is allowed to know what movies are being made by his company and subsidaries, as well as everything about anything within his company. I bet you Bob Iger knows the current line up of Pixar films just as soon as Pixar have confirmed themselves to be making them. He is aware of Pixar not liking everyone to know what’s going on inside, it’s a great marketing tactic, and good to keep company secrets secret, and I am sure he can respect that as a businessman.
Although Bob does not work at Pixar so-to-speak, he is Disney CEO and Disney owns Pixar. If say you owned a business, and I owned a few business under one name, and I went and bought your business from you, I’d own your business, and even though you still run and manage it, you still answer to me and because I own your business, I get to know anything and everything about it.

Well, he certainly has every right to know, yes, but if he did know, he’d definitely spoil that for all of us, instead of saying “I bet”.

Don’t you think?

Ha!!! I was just joking there…

But you see he is probably saying “I bet” because even though it’s not confirmed or even in the pipeline, there will probably be a Cars 2 in the distant future.

It can be called “Finding Nemo 2: Ah, stuff it. He can find his own way home.”

Cars 2 has already been confirmed in the industry press.
In a recent “Home Media Magazine” article talking about Disney’s quarterly DVD sales, this was mentioned:

“The CEO [Iger] also said there will be a theatrical sequel to Cars in addition to the release of Toy Story 3 in 2010. The studio is planning 3-D releases of the first two Toy Story films in 2009.”

Note that with the way the article is written it’s not clear if Cars 2 will be released in 2010 or if they’re just talking about Toy Story 3 for the 2010 date.

He didn’t mean the short did he?

Disney Plans A Bumper 2011

‘Zephyr’, our regular monitor of release date changes, is back today with word that Walt Disney Pictures is planning a rash of sequels of sorts in 2011.

The Mouse House has generally cut back in recent years to become more focused on its core demographic and give fewer titles better coverage. It’s a move that’s worked extremely well, so much so that other studios are keen to copy the plan in this post-strike and pre-economic recession environment.

Now according to ‘Zephyr’, the studio is filling up its schedule again with big sequels and franchise entries. Most exciting is that the studio plans to release a sequel to 80’s sci-fi classic “Tron” in Digital Disney 3D in the Spring of 2011. Previous reports had Joseph Kosinski in talks to direct.

The studio also has “Cars 2”, “National Treasure 3” and “Pirates of the Caribbean 4” scheduled for that year as well.

The most surprising listing is the “Cars” sequel. Despite it being John Lasseter’s baby, “Cars” is generally considered Pixar’s weakest effort to date and economically struggled to keep up with other films from the beloved studio.

Another “National Treasure” sequel isn’t surprising as the first two have both been quite successful for the studio. Reports last month had the story following the Gates family to Easter Island in search of Atlantis and the natural clean power source that the lost empire relied on.

The biggest question mark right now is the fourth “Pirates”. Reports say the franchise may try the “Wolverine” route - a more contained affair focusing on one character to downsize the budget. Other reports talk of a hyper-budget, ultra-fantastical feature, meaning anything from dinosaurs to Jules Verne-esque floating fortresses.

Cars 2 will only end in failure…It’s not the type of movie that needs a sequel. I would understand Monsters’ Inc, or a Bug’s Life…Maybe The Incredibles…

You never know! Toy Story 2 was just as good as the first one, remember? Pixar can do it.

Well, you certainly have a lot of faith in Pixar. Pixar will ONLY do sequels if they are absolutely certain that it will be better than the original. With Toy Story 2, that is a bit debatable, but it was without a doubt recognized as an excellent sequel.

I still don’t have enough proof that a Cars 2 is definitely happening, so until then… I will leave my “exploding post of excitement” post for another day. Trust me, it’ll be big…

How do you know that for sure?

Hmm, Disney is planing more that one sequel that year. Let hope Cars 2 don’t suffer becuase of it.

Well I trust them. If this is true, I trust they’d be doing it only because they have a good enough story. Who knows? Perhaps a Cars 2 could be one of those sequels that everyone thinks is better than the original. (it’s rare, but it does happen)

lennonluvr has a point. Despite the fact that there have been some unsatisfying sequels in the past couple of years, If Cars 2 have the right ingredients, they could make something special.
