With the release of Cars 2 comes the search for the many easter eggs and hidden references that are present in every Pixar film. I love these little easter eggs, and I always see threads that compile them whenever a new Pixar film comes out, so I thought I would be the one to helm Cars 2. After seeing the film, post any easter eggs you found here!
Was hoping someone would post some up so I know what to look for…
A few I noticed:
[spoil]- In Paris, “Gastow’s” was the obvious one! A nice little reference to Gusteau from Ratatouille
-
I could be wrong about this, but that little Italian village with the central fountain did look very similar to the setting for “One Man Band” (the short that played in front of the original Cars). Some of the cars were even playing a variety of instruments in a manner reminiscent of the short.
-
The ever-present “a113” came up when Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell were showing the photographs of the “mystery engine” to Mater - you can see it on the bottom of the picture. While we’re on the topic of that scene, I think I remember “Model 12” being referenced - and of course, Cars 2 is the 12th Pixar feature film.
-
Of course, there were also a variety of references to real-life locations and characters. My personal favourite was the Pope Mobile.[/spoil]
Noticed that the sign at the Radiator Springs Drive-In Theater was advertising a movie called The Incredimobiles!
You probably already knew this, but Siddley had A113 on his wing!
-In the beginning when [spoil]Miles Axelrod is climbing through the jungle[/spoil] he’s in the set from Up when Carl tries to get rid of Kevin and Dug.
-The PP truck appears [spoil]at the end in the audience of the Radiator Springs GP[/spoil]
And this isn’t a Pixar reference, but I loved that [spoil]Mater’s POV screen in the casino showed a “chance of winning” detector in the bottom-right corner[/spoil]
I agree with that one from [spoil]UP, the set was pretty obvious[/spoil]
any idea of where the mystery character from BRAVE is???
Darn, y’all got everything I did already. I would wonder where the Brave character is, considering the whole world is populated by Cars. It’s most likely in a picture or design somewhere…
Of course, during the credits, Pixar appears as one of the last things on the map, and when the ending animation is done, there’s a little ad for “Luxo Air” beside the rolling credits I believe.
The ad for Lotso that appeared on the poster also appears in Tokyo when they first arrive. You can see it in an overhead shot. Also, I noticed an ad for something “In A Cup” with similar style and animation to the ones in Wall-E.
[spoil]Gustou’s is also featured in the credits when they have a shot of France. [/spoil]
I don’t think this needs to be spoilered, but Mater’s birthday is the same day as a notable Pixar person. Free air to whoever can guess which one.
During the race in London (I think!) one of the advertisements on the side of the racetrack said “Lasse-tyres” or something similar, referencing John Lasseter.
Darn, Draik beat me to it! I do believe it was Lassetyre.
I saw that one too
I read somewhere that the boats from the Porto Corso Bay were inspired by the ones seen on Finding Nemo, would this be true???
Surprised no one mentioned this one. Fillmore’s license plate is 51237, which is (in US format) May 12, 1937 - George Carlin’s DOB…
Not a Pixar reference, but I did notice in the [spoil]Big Bentley scene in London that Holley yelled “reverse the polarity!” Which is a reference to Doctor Who, a huge show over in the UK.[/spoil] I’m a big fan so I was very excited by that one XD
One neat this about this movie is the overflow of Easter Eggs. I have to keep a closer eye open on my second viewing. I’m extremely curious as to the Brave reference.
Wait, what? Was Mater’s birthday mentioned in a movie guide or something? I don’t recall it in the film. O_O
today I’ll be watching Cars 2 once again, later I will post what else do I notice in my third viewing!!!
