Like I said in the other thread, nice trailer. Worried about the lack of Sally, but then again we have to remember that most of the movie is probably still being animated and such. Hopefully Lightning will stay as the lead character- as much as I like Mater, I’d prefer it if they didn’t change it into too much of a buddy comedy.
lol’d at the bit with Mater and Finn talking about “intelligence”.
This trailer has flung away any doubt I had about the film! I wasn’t so sure if I’d like the whole spies and action thing going on, for I prefer films for the storytelling of it than things like explosions, but I don’t know how, I felt from the trailer that the spy plotline could be pretty deep. But that’s just a vibe I’m getting.
Oh, and theruterito on YouTube commented on the video and pointed out the first easter egg in the film! Here’s a screencap I took of it.
I think A113 is the name of the organization that Finn works for. It would explain the number on the plane, and why Finn mistakes Mater for a spy. He sees the A113 license plate and assumes they work for the same group.
I also think the blue car seen in that fight is the car that Finn is really looking for. It appears he gets captured by the villains.
Also, not really important, but there are 11 cars in the Tokyo race sequence.
Seriously. This is really ticking me off. It doesn’t even look like she’s in most of the the film.
And, all in all, I’m not impressed. Where’s the heart? The simplicity of a small town? The “its the journey, not the destination” message? This looks like a shiny, flashy gimmic made for 3D to sell toys. And my worries that Cars 2 will be Pixar’s first bad film are heightened. I don’t want to be a cynic, really I don’t, and you all may remember my blind defense of Tangled (before it started looking even remotely decent) but I just can’t have much confidence in this. Still, hey, more chances to surprise me!
OH MY GOSH. This just shot my excitement level through the roof!
Couple of things to note:
They’ve only shown the Japan race, which has me worried about their production progress. Hopefully they’ll reveal the other races as well in subsequent trailers.
I’m worried about the absence of the rest of the Cars cast from this trailer, but hopefully they’ll get some screentime in the actual film.
I’m already a fan of Finn McMissile! Turns out he was the second car poster on Andy’s wall, and he’s modelled after a DB5, the best Bond car ever!
I couldn’t tell Finn’s voice actor, but I later found out it’s [spoil]Sir Michael Caine[/spoil]! Disappointingly not any of the Bonds, but I did like him in the Batman movies, and he’s a British screen legend.
I love the action sequences! While Pixar granted my wish of having a talking-car movie, this just upped the ante by including one of my favourite film genres; the espionage thriller. If they deliver what they promise, this might just be the most action-packed Pixar movie since The Incredibles.
I’ve wondered whether cars in the Cars universe use guns like Ramone does with his paint gun (I wrote a 24 crossover fanfiction once), and the trailer confirmed it!
I’m very curious to know what was the song in the trailer. It has a very nice spy-feel to it. DisneyMovies, perhaps you could help me out here?
So yeah, I’m totally excited for it now. There are some doubts like whether the other characters will be marginalised for Mater’s storyline, or whether Pixar can complete the film on time and do a good job, but all will be revealed next summer!
Wow, nice find Bryko614! And yeah I imagine that with the Mater B Plot and the Lightning A Plot (or vice versa) there must be some sort of collision between the two. Or [spoil] perhaps this actually happens in the beginning of the film when Lightning has to leave and Mater decides to stow away on the plane to be with him [/spoil]
That makes complete sense Reaper052. Personally I would love it if A113 had a huge role in this next PIXAR film like it did in WALL-E.
Rac_Rules, yeah that kind of worries me too. I mean as much as I loved Toy Story 3 and from what I’ve seen from the Cars 2 Feature Trailer, I’m getting really annoyed at these “themed sequels”. I mean Toy Story 3 made somewhat sense, but I honestly thought that the Prison Escape scenario was a little distracting from the overall plot. I just hope that PIXAR manages to to somehow tie all of the extremities of this film together nicely.
I’m assuming that it will probably be like Losing You, Brazil and Goodbye Mr. A, where it’s only being played in the teaser/ Feature Trailer/ Featurette.
I thought it was neat. Better than what I thought it would be like!
I am a bit disapointed not to see more of what Europe will look like in the Cars world, but I understand why they didn’t. After all it’s only a minute long trailer! I can’t wait to see more, and Tokyo looks killer!
After seeing the trailer. I can’t help but think that this could either turn out to be really bad, or this could be one amazing movie. This also is the first Pixar movie that has me somewhat worried. I guess time will tell with this one.
good trailer! I went crazy when I heard Michael Caine, that was so awesome! I have more of an idea what the movie is going to be like now. It might turn out okay.
Also, I just had to mention that I remember a thread on here that was “any ideas for a Pixar movie?” and my idea was a spy movie. to me, it feels like they actually saw that post and decided they would make Cars 2 their spy movie. I know that that’s probably not true, but I just feel proud of myself for thinking up an idea for one of their movies before they make it… well, wouldn’t you?
Even though I’m like way late, I’d like to argue some of the more negative points.
If it was in Radiator Springs again, what would they do? I’d just be like the same movie over again, which would be super lame. I love the first Cars, but a sequel needs to be at least slightly different.
I know this is not official, but Sally is still on the IMDB, so she still might be in there. Maybe what we’re looking at is another strong female saving him from the trouble he’s caused himself? cough
Anyway, I still think, for now at least, this looks great.
