Cars 2 : Is it a good or bad thing?

Personally, I think Cars 2 will get great.

First is my complete faith in Pixar that they wouldn’t do it if there was nothing there. If Disney had started this when they came close to splitting like Toy Story 3 I doubt it being too far in production to be worth cutting (an argument I’ve heard before) would be reason enough for them to go on with it. If there was nothing there then it would not be done.

Second although Cars had a great ending I think it leaves things more open to go on than say Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, and Wall-E which personally, I think that the in credits epilogue was sufficient enough on Wall-E to not leave me like ok then what. Cars was mostly character driven (like most of Pixar actually) and the characters have things to do. While the end of Cars resolved many of Lightning’s problems, I think its safe to say that they could take him to a place that he could risk going back to his old ways. And personally, I’m thinking Chick Hicks might recieve a plot of picking himself back up out of the gutter, but that’s just me.

Third, those of you who say Cars was bad with critics and only recieved 75% at Rotten Tomatoes, I have to say that that is still a good score and if Cars is your worst movie, then that is saying something.

Finally, what if John Lasetter wanted to do something with Cars that he couldn’t do in the first and now he has the opprotunity to get that in? I’m thinking that this is the most likely reason for a sequel. I’d also like to point out that Sequels tend to do better at the Box Office and I’ve been dieing for Pixar to beat the Ogre’s record and hey, if sequels can match Pixar’s standards then everybody wins. Of course, I am expecting Toy Story 3 to topple that but Cars might just come in at number 2. Not bad, I’d say.

Cars is definitely not just for young boys! Did I ever tell anyone that Cars is like, one my Mum’s favourite movies of all time? She likes it more than I do! And I’m thirteen, she’s… in her 40’s :exclamation: I think Cars 2 would be great, and I don’t know why people are against Cars.

No worries, LightningAndDoc, there’s always going to be differences of opinions with this sort of thing anyway. I’m sure if it wasn’t Cars 2 but The Incredibles 2 or Finding Nemo 2, there’d still be people both for and against the idea of it. Either way, Cars 2 is going to be made and I’ll more than likely go and see it in the cinema. I’m just not keen on sequels generally, not just for Cars but for many other films as well. But we’ll see, I might be pleasantly surprised!

Eugh, Twilight…Some people have no taste! :stuck_out_tongue:

It depends. If it’s like Toy Story has been where they continue to make sequels that are worth telling and with a lot of work and thought put into them, then yes. If it’s just being done to add on to the Cars franchise, then we have a problem. I will admit though that Cars is one film that’s still open to more possibilities.

Really there is no way to tell if its a good or bad thing until it is released.
