Cars 2 Opinions

I wouldn’t say this movie was better than Toy Story 3, but personally, I prefer it to Toy Story 3. Cars 2 is my favorite of the two Cars movies, while Toy Story 3 is my least favorite of the Toy Story series.

I loved it, but apparently A LOT of people disagree http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/cars_2/

Like I said in my review, I thought Cars 2 was a good summer movie but it was a little disappointing in a way. I thought it was disappointing because it lacked that certain Pixar magic that makes their movies great and the fact that Mater had way too much screentime. I don’t think Mater is an annoying character, its just that when you see him for most of the movie you want to see somebody else.

Maybe from a professional film standpoint it’s not “amazing”, but for a movie for families and animation fans to watch, I thought it was excellent, suitable entertainment. :frowning:

I totally agree. I was all good fun.

Something happened to me while I walked out of the theater after seeing Cars 2, that has never happened to me in the past after seeing a Pixar film. My mind was on other things. I felt no kind of emotional connection with the characters. My mind wondered while watching the movie. I fell asleep a couple of times. I can’t even remember most of the movie. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong. Disney gets all of the money from the merchandise sold right? I wonder if Disney played a major role in this movie being made. I think the story takes place in different countries not only because more toys could be made, but also so that it can appeal to more audiences overseas, to sell more toys. I wonder is it true what John has said about Disney not interfering with what they do. I don’t like summer with having a Pixar film to obsess about and see many many times. I can’t wait for 2012 to get here and for to Pixar return to form.

I just came back from it.

I loved it, i had alot of fun with it.

Though if i were to rank it with the other pixar films, it would be at number 10, above a bugs life, and right behind ratatouille.

I give it an A-

It’s nice to see some positive response! It feels like the critics are the only ones really complaining…

I saw the movie again today.

I had a much more favorable opinion of it this viewing. I was less overwhelmed, and had lower expectations. Because I already saw the movie, this time around I payed more attention to the detail of it, which is lovely indeed.

The animation is lovely, and the settings are beautiful, of course. Sure, there are still plenty of things that bothered me, but I don’ feel like writing a whole review.

I give it a B-

After watching it for the second time, and knowing exactly what happens, I can kind of see where some of the bad reviews are coming from. I actually physically cringed during the parts where Axlerod delivers his sermon about the dead dinosaurs and Mater’s whole epiphany-while-unconscious, but overall I still prefer it to the first one, mainly because I couldn’t relate to Cars at all. Somebody one one of these threads pointed out that the original Cars was a very conservative, American film and the reason Cars 2 was received so badly is because they swapped all the ideals so it’s now a progressive, international film.
Coming from someone who is both non-American and the complete opposite of a conservative, I couldn’t really get into the movie because I didn’t really understand the morals behind it.
I agree, Cars 2 has a relatively weak and extremely outlandish plot, but overall I think it’s just a fun, carefree movie.
I also think that a lot of the criticism isn’t completely objective, Pixar had its own enormous shoes to fill after the past 3 brilliant movies, and if any other animation studio had created and produced the two Cars movies, then Cars 2 would be better recieved. In a way the whole movie seems like an experiment Pixar did, to see whether a movie that wasn’t as heartwarming or touching as their previous films would work. I think it’s a pity that Cars 2 has been so poorly received, as if it had been a success it might have motivated them to refine the ways they play with genre and come up with some original movies that are different from their previous ones.
One last thing, and I can’t stress this enough, We Australians sound nothing like the cars Lightning was talking to. The whole theater actually cracked up laughing at how ridiculous they sounded.

I don’t see how Cars 2’s success could do anything for Pixar’s originality. Couldn’t you say that exact same thing if the movie bombs?

8D Oh my gosh, that made me laugh so hard. Sorry to hear that! I wish I could have seen their car-interpretation of a Canadian. :sunglasses:

Haha, that would of been so amazing.

LOL, I can only imagine…cars with big winter tires and ear muffs. 8D It’s too bad they weren’t able to feature more countries, that would have been interesting!

As much as I hate to admit it, this registered in my mind as what I felt when I left the theater. With TS3 and Up, it was all I could think about. “Brilliantbrilliantbrilliant.” But I left the theater and pretty much forgot about it. I didn’t hate it at all, in fact I really enjoyed it and think that critics are crazy, but it didn’t stick in my mind as much.

Well, I’m glad that I saw Cars 2 in theatres but now I can’t wait to sit down and watch it in my own home. I wonder if it will feel any different than seeing it in the theatre? I only wish I had seen the first one in theatres, I will never know just how great the roar of the engines must have sounded or what it was like seeing my favourite couple on the big screen.

^I never saw the first one in theaters either! My mom usually took us and she was against it for some reason and we were little back then, so I couldn’t go with my friends. I’m really glad I got the chance to see the second one in theaters.

And I prefer the first one over this one, I think mainly because of the heart in it. The first one is a classic to me and I don’t think any Cars sequel could replace it

THIS. Exactly this. I enjoyed the sequel but to me it was really just like a random adventure rather than an actual continuation of the story that I came to love in the original.

Yes! It was like an extended Mater’s Tall Tales. You said it perfectly!

Yeah, that’s it! Such a shame too because Cars 2 could have been the perfect shot for them to redeem themselves.
