Oh, that’s common. Families usually only care if they enjoyed it, but critics are notoriously snobby and often are much harder to please. This can be for better or for worse. (on one hand, this. On the other, Princess and the Frog versus the Squeakquel.)
If I remember correctly, he came up with Cars 2 when he took a trip around the world and asked what Mater would do in the situation.
I get that, but they need to remember what kind of movie they’re watching.
I don’t understand what you mean by this:
This can mean that critics with bash a totally enjoyable film just because they like to be snobby, or it can mean that they will honor an under performed film (PATF) while bashing a terrible film (Squeakquel) that makes a ridiculous amount of money because the general public has the tendency to be a tad stupid.
Well, some of the negative reviews do say that it’s not like it’s a bad movie. It’s just a bad Pixar film. I think that’s even worse. That means it’s a good movie, but now, they’re only basing it on Pixar-ness, so it makes it bad.
Oh, well that’s ridiculous. In that case, yes, they really need to review the movie, not the company.
seriously? ugh.
i mean, if they really & truly didn’t enjoy the film, that’s fine. but bashing it because it isn’t /as good/ as pixar’s other films? ashffjfls; i can’t.
so as far as i know it’s at 50% on rottentomatoes, which doesn’t really matter to me because a) i usually don’t give a darn about rt scores in the first place (because really, that whole scoring process is messed) & b) as long as it’s melodrama-free & fun, i’ll live. and i’m actually starting to look forward to seeing it, so.
lol, just found that on rottentomatoes. guess you were right, jessie.
Thank you.
I agree with you completely. I think that critics should look judge the movie fairly no matter which studio it came from.
About John Lasseter, I don’t think he’ll be heartbroken. The movie hasn’t come out in theaters yet, so there is still a lot of time for the public and other critics to give their opinions. Personally I think Cars 2 will be a amazing movie just like the first.
The public can’t do that, can they? With the first Cars, it’s not like I can help change the percentage. That’s only critics, no?
^ i quite like your positivity. really. i mean, i do believe critics can have a say in whether a movie is ~good~ or not, but your above statement makes sense. i mean, if /you/ (i don’t mean /you/ personally, just in general, lol) like it…idk. I JUST LIKED YOUR POST.
also, i just found this on rottentomatoes -
- and for some reason i am laughing & laughing. i think he was trying to sound profound.
he didn’t.
I just deleted my post because I thought it was rude. I’m sorry!
Oh dear, looking at the Rotten Tomatoes score and IMDb user reviews, I feel this may be Pixar’s worst film to date. Well I can’t judge a film by the score it gets so I’ll still see it. To see what I mean though, you may want to check out the second user review from the top in the IMDb section:
He’s got a point
I am actually quite amazed at the 47% tomatometer rating. Never in my life have I seen a Pixar film with a rating as low as that. They’ve always been at least higher than 70% Hopefully the reviews will get better, but I’m not guaranteeing that or anything.
I can’t expect them to come out with a film like that after the huge success of Toy Story 3. The last thing I’d want would to be their movies going downhill, but that’s probably unlikely, because they’re much better than that.
I don’t think Pixar will ever top TS3 with anything though.
^ in terms of what? acclaim? worldwide gross? i’m just going to /assume/ you were talking about the latter and honestly, they definitely will /eventually/. we’ll just have to see. :'D
locall: honestly, much as i’m trying to reserve judgement before actually seeing the film (as i should), he /does/ have a point. upsetting as it is, i guess as of rn a little tiny part of me agrees with him.
Geoff-uk1234: i was thinking that, too. i mean, it’s still kinda early, i guess, but yikes. don’t pixar films usually start at the top and then go down whatever amount as more reviews come in?
i’m not going to go as far as to claim it as being pixar’s first dud (in the general public’s eye, anyway) until i see it, but i’m kinda getting an uneasy feeling. i know that i /shouldn’t/ have that feeling but shjfk; i can’t help it.
honestly i don’t even know what i’m saying anymore. fail.
And how do you feel about the 46% its currently at?
This is getting so sad, it’s almost funny
Strange for this is my first post here…
I am shocked at the reviews so far.
This film looks good to me, and i shall ignore said reviews for now
And it is quite sad though
Cars 2 isn’t doing too badly on Metacritic. It has a score of 63 out of 100, based on 10 critics’ reviews and the verdict is "Generally favorable reviews - Good news!
