Cars 2?

Well, since there has been like, a lot of rumors about

it, it COULD be true, but then again we’ll never be so sure. Who knows? The folks at Pixar might be discussing

the plot for it. So to me, it’s 50/50

As i said if this news it true then Pixar is saying

almost nothing about it

Cars was not Pixar’s greatest film. Maybe not in the eyes of some of you, but in

the eyes of investors and in terms of Pixar’s franchise run of hugely successful

movies, Cars was near the bottom of the list. So why would Pixar – who already more

successful sequel options like TI2, FN2, and MI2 – take one of their “poorer” movies and make a

sequel? It doesn’t make any sense to me. Plus, they’ve got to keep the market for those films up, so they can

sell collectibles and stuff. Their doing older film’s sequels first, as evidenced by TS3.

But yeah,

it’s kind of exciting to think about! :stuck_out_tongue: If it’s true, maybe the “2009” question is answered!

Cars didn’t do that well at the box

office (or as well as Pixar had hoped), and it was only merchandising that made up the difference. Cars was an ok

film in my eyes, but it wasn’t the best and I don’t think it stood up to Pixar’s high expectations, but

that’s just me.

Besides, with Toy Story 3 being released in 2010 and a probable The Incredibles 2 being

released sometime after, I don’t want Pixar to become another Disney (or Dreamworks), and be know for their

sequels instead of their new, unique storylines that we all look forward to. A sequel should only be made when it

really needs it.

Hmm, this is interesting.
I would like to see a Cars 2…but only if the

storyline is right.

There are many roads to go down if they did make Cars 2:

What happens to Chick

Hicks after the Win? (Skip the Video Game though)
Radiator Springs back in business,
The King’s

retirement,
New Dinocco racer,
Sally and Lightning’s relationship,
Doc’s come back as the Hudson

Hornett etc…

As for Paul Newmans retirement…I have heard on animated films the voice overs are

recorded a while in advance before they even start animating!!! So if they are making a Cars 2, the voices may

already be done!

Dan.

WOW, I didn’t think a Cars 2

rumour would ever pop up! I mean… even I (who absolutely LOVED this film) couldn’t see this

continuing.

I would be BEYOND happy if they made a sequel to Cars, but I just don’t see it happening. The

ending was wonderful, and I just… can’t see anything come after that. They would really have to convince me

plot-wise. With WALL-E, Ratatouille and all this talk about Toy Story 3, I thought that their hands were already

full. Pixar isn’t like Dreamworks… they take time with their sequels should they create them.

So yes, I

will support the idea of a sequel, but it will probably stay a rumour and nothing more. :frowning:

You could have a story about L&S kid and how one

unique one wants to be a racer, but is shunned away because she is a girl.

One commentor on Upcoming Pixar said it might be a fake

used to locate leaks in Disney. Sounds very probable to me. El Jobso has been doing it at Apple for years.

Eh … that sounds a bit like a fanfiction

though , they need something 99% original since the first one was somewhat like Doc Hollywood …

Here is, maybe slight

proof of the Cars short film!

Taken from Upcoming Pixar site:
There is also talk of a Cars short film

to be attached to the 2008 film (WALL-E). Al Lutz said he heard about it from Paul

Newman himself at the Indy 500. BSD also says that they have heard about this too and does believe

it.

So…Paul Newman spills the beans?

Dan.

I guess a short film would make much

more sense than a whole feature length thing. I mean, Pixar admitted that they did become a bit too much 'in

love’ with the concept and characters of Cars, and even though Cars didn’t do amazingly at the box office,

etc., maybe that attachment is making them eager to do something else Cars related, just not a full feature

sequel.

I don’t know what to believe, but I would

love a Cars 2!! I’m so intrigued and facinated by

that world of cars that I really, really would like to see more of it!!
A Cars short film would be awesome,

too!!

This is not a knock on anyone/post, but I am

still trying to grasp the concept that $244m is not an amazing job at the box office.

In itself, it’s

good, but it’s not amazing compared to what Disney expected for Cars.

Which I have read/heard… and am not saying is not

true.

So my next quesion (which has yet been answered) is "how much did Disney expect ‘Cars’ to

make?"

How much did ‘Cars’ cost to make?

If ‘Cars’ cost Pixar/Disney $200m is research,

editing, distribution, etc. costs, then yes! Disney should be disappointed.

If ‘Cars’ cost Pixar/Disney

$50-$100m, then a $144m in profit for the domestic box office (not including what Pixar/Disney has made in

merchandising and licensing fees) is an amazing amount of return on investment.

My humble

opinion…

I guess I too would perfer another short than a full length sequel. You still have your

availible characters and you can make up a quick and good plot with it

A little off topic here, but did you see the realses date for TS3, it said: 12/31/2010

Yes…I was wondering if that date was just ‘thrown’ in

there or if they actually do plan on releasing it on 12-31.

i, too, would love to see CARS-II…!!! but i still think

this thread by al lutz is a hoax.

you’re right, a sequel depends on the story and the (human)

“actors”, but since they’ve done a first part very well, then they can also do a second part. if it

really comes to that, then i only can hope that the disney influence is kept at bay… i don’t want a possible

second cars movie to be even “sweeter” than the first one

and a short film…

maybe.
well, they cut out (resp. cast aside) enough material, so they could use it for a “shorty”!

A Cars sequel would be nice if the story was good enough. I myself dont know if

there would be enough for a full length movie. a 30-45 min featurette maybe. Although nobody does featurettes

anymore. If this is true, I wonder how far it production it would be. Even though Paul Newman’s retired now,

perhaps he’d come out of it to do Doc or maybe the voices have been done already…
