Cars 2.

Saw this at work today while processing the mail (I work at a library):

nytimes.com/2008/06/01/busin … pixar.html
That’s the electronic version.
I guess a sequel to Cars has now been officially confirmed. I wasn’t a fan of Cars period, but I figured some of you might appreciate the news. It’s the third from last paragraph on the first page, though I recommend you read the whole article.

DL.

Wow. I guess that that really does settle it. Oh well. There ya’ have it. Let’s just hope that the sequels soars to the top…

Oh gosh, no! Please, no! I have faith in Pixar, but really. If a sequel is “required”, necessary, or plausible, then by all means crank out a note-worthy one, not just because it’s feasible. I know that Mr. Lasseter still sounds confident in future projects, but still.
In any case, I certainly hope that there will not be a second intallment of Ratatouille. I beg you…

(sigh)

Ah well. Thank you for sharing this information with us, DoubleLatte. We always appreciate any news that travels around.

Thanks for the link Doublelatte, I guess we’ll wait and see what Cars 2 can show us.

No prob.

Those were my thoughts exactly. No offense to anyone who wants to see a sequel to Cars, but was it really necessary? I don’t want a sequel to a movie that had more than enough closure the first time around. What worried me most though was Lasseter’s bit about making more sequels from a business perspective. They will be making a second Cars movie simply because it sold well as a franchise–not because there was more potential the storyline or the characters’ development. This sounds more Disney than Pixar to me.

I think Cars 2 will be awesome. I man, think about it. Toy Story closed in a wa that it didn’t need a sequel and look what they did.

HAVE FAITH MY FRIENDS! HAVE FAITH! At least until the live action movies start coming out… Sorry PIXAR, but…

I have heard it might be based “loosley” on the Mater National game and the characters.

You said it, nBug!

Guys, name ONE bad Pixar movie. Can’t do it, can you? You lose, I get your mail! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

A “bad” Pixar movie may vary by opinion. Not a single Pixar film has bombed at the box office, yeah, but since when was that a predictor of a great, quality film? (Think Shrek the Third!) Too much hype and advertisement of a movie can tip the scales as far as income is concerned and yet, receive pretty bad reviews. I personally failed to find Cars as great or as creative in story as Toy Story 1, 2, Finding Nemo, and Monsters, Inc. The Cars sequel is still a good 4 years away, so we’ll see if they can come up with a better storyline for it.

Well I’ve said what I’ve said about this so many times that I dont really feel like saying it again. I’m sure you can find it in the other topics that have been started on Pixar’s future projects  And John even said “the movie has to be great or you can snuff out a franchise”. I mean, I’m sure they all realize this.

And look on the bright side: If Cars wasn’t that good to some of you, that will definitely make Cars 2 seem much better! :sunglasses:

I never said either was bad, cuz they’re awesome

You can’t have my mail! I’m expecting something important! D<

Yeah, I’ve had faith in Cars 2 since I heard about it, but only recently did I get really yay about it. See, I’m reading “The Art of Cars” right now (GREAT book. Artists could learn a lot from this) and it finally really hit me. These same characters, these same memories, they’re coming back. It’s like my head knew that, but my heart was just now getting the memo. I grinned.

Netbug009: No, I was talking to TS2 and LG. You can have yours back.

Sorry about that off-topic-ness. XD

B-on-T: Do you hope that there will be new character(s), or would you like to see Pixar just use the original characters?

With a new movie always comes new characters A113. I can expect to see new characters in this.
