I found an article that explains why the dvd is so
bare-bones:
videobusiness.com/index.asp? … =CA6388059
Most
importunely it reports that there are not immediate plans for another (DVD) edition.

Thanks for the info Pix-ney you know I liked that
last part when it said
any way nice info Pix-ney, catch ya later, peace out!
So to summarize: There isn’t a 2-disc version because
they’re far too busy making excellent movies. To appease us, they’ve released “podcast” extras on the
internet. Podcasts I’d like to see on any future 2-disc release.
If the movies do indeed turn out to be
excellent, then fair enough. I can wait for extras.
Nice article, Pix-ney. At least it answers our question.
I guess it’s understandable- it sounds as though the people at Pixar have got their priorities right.
Add to this why there isn’t a commentary. I think that because John Lasseter was assigned to be in charge
of both Disney and Pixar Animation it fulled up his schedule from January till June
Though I always
thought that doing a commentary for a film was a relatively quick and simple process- listening to previous Pixar
film commentaries, they don’t seem to really prepare much, so the only time it would take was just the length of
the movie.
This article is the result
of Disney marketing genius. As much as I love Pixar, I think we should be entitled to have a 2-disk version with
loads of bonus features from the get-go, just like the other 6 Pixar feature film DVDs. Pixar seems to raise the
bar each time with its films and DVDs, and this time I think they’ve lowered it.
Although the article
says that there are no immediate plans for a 2-disk version, please realize that
there is a 99.9% chance that a bigger version will come into stores. Key word:
immediate. They want us to buy the November 7 edition and the 2-disk big
edition.
