I didn’t bother reading it. I guess there would be too
many spoilers. But why give the extras a C+? The movie was wonderful. I am happy for the A grade.
Thanks R66N, I read it last night and I don’t think there were any spoiler.

Well, if you haven’t noticed, there’s
kind of been this big thing about how the Cars DVD is only one disc… Just a guess, but that
might be the reason. ![]()
I see. But why not just review the
quality instead of the quantity of the extras? Unless there is only the short.
With DVD extras, quantity is a pretty big deal, actually.
To get the most in-depth and fun experience possible (i.e. quality), it’s necessary to have more than a decent
amount of stuff (i.e. quantity). In this particular instance, the two go hand-in-hand. Obviously, you can have
quantity without quality, but I think it’s difficult to consider it really good quality without at least some
quantity.
And TSS, I think it’s safe for you to go ahead and read the review. I just skipped over the
section talking about Mater and the Ghostlight, and I didn’t feel that a single thing had been spoiled for
me.
You bet that the quantity of DVD
extras means a lot. That’s why the grade for the DVD extras was a C+.
I watch a lot of DVDs. Even a
one-disc release can have more than two hours of extra stuff. I know for a fact there are hours of videotape of
Michael Wallis leading the Pixar crew down Route 66. I know there’s a lot of good material to edit down into an
entertaining documentary. That’s because Wallis has told me many stories about that trip (including the
misadventure when one group decided to take roadkill with them back to Emeryville). That you hardly see any of
this at all is a disappointment.
I also know that the Disney Channel had footage of Route 66 and
“Cars” inspiration from its “Movie Surfers” program. Why not put that on the DVD
also?
How about a slideshow of stills from the “Art of Cars” book? That’d be nice,
too.
And where the heck is the audio commentary? That’s practically a given with most new DVD releases.
Even with older movies, the studios try to find a principal to two to regale viewers about the production of the
film. I certainly would have been fascinated to hear what Lasseter or Wallis or Larry the Cable Guy had to say
about certain scenes.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not about to throw my copy of “Cars” in the
trash. I love the movie, and I really like “Mater and the Ghost Light” and "Inspiration for
Cars." But this DVD could have been special. I’m sure a really swell special edition will happen
eventually. I just wish they had done it the first time.
Wow, this is a very wholesome review. I can’t wait to get the DVD!
route66news OMG, I totally agree! I really wish they’d have just put out a proper
version in the first place. crosses fingers for a bigger better release down the road ![]()
