I’ve been told there’s another reason

Pixar didn’t use “Route 66” as a title. There’s a fellow in Europe who’s trademarked "Route

66" on that continent. Pixar probably would have prevailed in court in not having to pay the guy for his

trademark, mostly because Route 66 is old enough that it’s in the public domain. But Pixar didn’t see the

benefit of having to deal with a possibly protracted court battle, and decided to simply change the movie’s

title.
