I’m okay about Find Yourself not getting nominated. BUt I think only one song for movie I
think. I don’t think I have seen two songs from the same movie ever get nominated. I think there can be only one
Cars nomination come Oscar time.
True, but I don’t think
you could define that as clearly audible and intellegible. You need to really listen for it.
Won’t it count if you hear words in the background?
Yes, you can hear words, but I just don’t
think it’s clearly audible enough to qualify for nomination.
Anywho, let the battle between Exciting Cool
Rock Tune and Randy Newman Songalogue begin!
Actually when it had it’s go,
Beauty and the Beast took ALL of the nominations in the category. Little Mermaid also took multiples and I’m
pretty sure Aladin and Lion King did too. So it’s kinda a Disney tradition but it has happened before. =)

Yep.
Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King each had three
nominations (for “Beauty and the Beast”, “Be Our Guest”, and “Belle”; and "Can
You Feel the Love Tonight", “Hakuna Matata”, and “Circle of Life”, respectively), while
Aladdin and The Little Mermaid each had two (for
“A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me”; and “Under the Sea” and "Kiss the
Girl", respectively). Incidentally, each of these films eventually won the award, which was quite
nice.
So yeah, Cars definitely has a shot at being nominated for two songs. I
was kind of hoping that “Find Yourself” would be in that long list, but rules are rules. Though, I
wonder: Why are the original songs that are played first in the end credits the only ones eligible for the award?
I remember last year when “Wunderkind” (from The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the
Witch and the Wardrobe) didn’t get nominated for that same reason.
Apparently, this year’s Oscar will feature
three to five nominations in the Best Original Song category. If I recall, last year was the only year during
which there were not five nominations (there were three nominations instead). I’m
not sure how exactly they go about picking the number of songs they nominate for Best Original Song, but I guess
the probability that both Cars songs (from the long list) would get nominated
depends on the number of nominations in the category.
Sorry
for the triple post, but I just want to let you all know that Cars just won the
National Board of Review Best Animated Feature award. For those of you not familiar with the National Board of
Review, many people consider it to be a great indicator of nominees (and winners) in the Academy
Awards.
However, the Best Animated Feature award in the New York Film Critics Circle went to
Happy Feet. I know I’m sounding a little self-contradictory here, but the New York
Film Critics Circle is also a rather good indicator of Oscar nominees and winners.
I guess we’ll just
have to wait and see what happens.
Hmm, that’s interesting…I guess this indicates just how close the competition is.
wow , im surprised since happy feet confuzzled me at
the end . it must just be because they’re penguins .
and i’ll be rooting for our town , yay our town
!

Interesting. I’m not that surprised that Happy Feet is beginning to make its way
toward the final lap – heck, I wouldn’t be that disappointed if it won the first place trophy, as I loved
Happy Feet more than Cars. Heh. ![]()
Thank
you for the information, sir. ![]()
AFI (another group comprised of many Oscar voters)
released its Top 10 movies of 2006 the other day and Happy Feet made the list but Cars didn’t. It’s certainly
going to be a race between the two - that’s for sure. But it’ll be nice since the last couple of years the
category has pretty well been locked up before the nominees were even announced.
On a more sinical note I
think it’s fair to mention that there are likely more people tied to Cars with a vote at the Oscars as compared
to those tied to Happy Feet since pretty much every name of any size at Pixar has been invited to join the
Academy at some point or another. However - Robin Williams seems to be carrying more and more Academy clout
these days.
Happy Feet? A big competetor to Cars? I am really
surprised. But either way, I will be cheering for Cars durring the Oscars.
I just realized that if Cars gets nominated for Best
Animated Feature, then it would be John Lasseter’s first Oscar nomination in that category for a film that he
directed (he was also nominated for Monsters, Inc., but he didn’t direct that
movie). I’m sure a nomination would be really special for him.
I
just checked oscars.com and CARS is nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song "Our
Town".
Personally I like “Find yourself” better but that’s just my opinion. I really hope
it wins Best Animated Feature.
No wonder Cars is being nominated for lots of awards… Pixar just has that catchy charm in
their movies.
(I’m watching it right now, lol.)
