I guess you’re right in a way, lizardgirl. They are not exactly as smart as the ‘pre-movie’ shorts, and it’s sort of an episodic animated series kinda feel. Personally I would argue that it’s no different from having Boom comics for Incredibles or Wall-E fans (but then again, Cars has its own freakin’ magazine).
How do I put this? I don’t mind the Mater shorts since I’m a Cars fan, and I would love to see more of them, but at the same time, I hope that Pixar doesn’t become too ‘cheap’ as a result of it. As long as they’re not making direct-to-DVD sequels, then I guess I’m fine with it.
I’m wondering if Pixar will make different Cars Toons other than Mater’s Tall Tales. I think that they should make something than recaps Lightning’s life after the first film to get you ready for Cars 2.
I finally saw “Tokyo Mater” the other night (on Disney XD) and I have to say, I really liked it - and I’ve never seen any of those “Tokyo Drift,” etc., movies. Loved the extra little Pixar in-jokes: [spoil]the Mike and Sulley Monster Trucks glimpsed when Mater comes out of the sliding doors (I’m guessing that’s meant to be a sushi place?), and the Wall-E-style ad for “Lug Nuts in a Cup.”[/spoil]
I don’t mind the CarsToons, I guess I just take them for what they are.
Is’nt a new one of these supposed to come out soon? I hope I can see it on Youtube or something. While they don’t hold a candle to all the other Pixar shorts, I enjoy the CarsToons, and at least they are entertaining.
Ok,why is John Lassiter allowing this?!They are making Mater the main character and hero and Lightning second fiddle…This is stupid!!This is becoming more and more about Mater which makes me very irratated…I might even start an online boycott or petition aganst this…

I just saw it earlier this afternoon, it was pretty good! I was even more pleased that Mia and Tia were barely in it. (for some reason they just annoy me in the Cars Toons)
The two new releases were decent, average in my opinion. I just wish they would step away from focusing on Mater and give some light to other characters like Luigi or Guido or even Lizzie. There is too much attention on Mater. Maybe its because of the role he’ll be playing in Cars 2 and this is just a way to get fans more interested in Cars 2. It seems to be a effective technique though, the characters are still kept alive. Hopefully after Cars 2, they give some emphasis on others.

Well they are called “Mater’s Tall Tales”, but I agree. I would like to see some shorts with more input from other characters. Especially Luigi and Guido!
Australians still don’t have the Cars Toons blu-ray. I thought when Cars 2 released we’d get it then but nope, just a DVD combo pack. If Big W want the exclusive that’s fine, but release the blu-ray too or you don’t deserve it.
Does anyone know what the dealio is?
UPDATE 10th Nov: Disney Australia emailed me that it will be released here “sometime next year, probably still exclusive to Big W”
I gotz excitin’ news!! There’s a new Tall Tale on the way!!
I visited the Cars website yesterday and saw a little headliner that said “Time Travel Mater is coming soon; click to watch the others now”. And I’m like… “Wait… Time Travel Mater? That one that was an abandoned idea shown only on the Mater’s Tall Tales Blu-Ray/DVD?” I don’t know why they’re doing it now all of a sudden. Of all the deleted Tales my favorite was probably Stunt Mater, because the proof was undeniable from the get-go, and I firmly believe Mater did all of these things, just differently than they actually happened, like Cars 2, which was kind of a big ol’ Mater’s Tall Tale in itself. I liked the creativity of Time Travel Mater, though. The only thing I wasn’t as crazy about is that well… time travel is confusing! However, that doesn’t mean I’m adverse to the fact they’re making it now; who knows how they’ve improved it? Maybe they’re inserting more Cars characters or more story or more timezones or making references to Back To The Future or something. I’m very excited now… I love all the Cars Toons!
