Hmm looks interesting!
Sounds like it has a good story line and great cast!
I absolutely love Catherine O’hara!
I’ll have to see what it looks like
You mean they’re actually going through with this?! Ha! Oh, that’s funny. I thought that this story had been scrapped…
My dad worked on this. I watched him do storyboards on the project a year or two ago. That said, I’m surprised that the film itself is still in production.
Sean Astin is providing the voice for Rover? (snigger)
Catherine O’hara? Sorry, I just had to point it out…

Interestingly, this film is being made by a Hong Kong animation studio (by the same guys who brought you TMNT). There has not been much on the Chinese animation front, so this should be an interesting entry if it ever gets released. The only noteworthy HK animated films I could think of are Old Master Q (a hilarious comic strip I enjoyed as a kid which spawned a long-running film franchise), A Chinese Ghost Story (of which I haven’t seen yet, but wish to), and My Life as McDull (I have watched a few episodes on YT, and they’re charming and funny). All these are worth a watch if you consider yourself an animation geek and want to broaden your animation ‘taste palette’. Like me. I wish.
On a side note, Catherine O’ Hara was the alien mum in Chicken Little, and one of the hedgehogs in Over the Hedge, if I’m not mistaken. And interestingly, Alan Cummings and David Cross, who both play a cat and a stork respectively, have also done similar character voice roles in Garfield and Kung Fu Panda!
IMDB says it’s still in production, although a forum poster says it’s been discontinued.
The idea sounds nice, something like Tarzan meets Bolt. I just hope they don’t make it too juvenille and actually take the trouble to insert some character ‘developmentalizationing’ in there…
Mitch: Wow, your family’s lucky to be in the animation business… you get first scoops on what upcoming films are before their media release!
thedriveintheatre - Cha, one does have an interesting perspective when he/she is in the animation industry, or around those who are in the business. This particular project (Cat Tale) didn’t sound too good from what I remember (I read a bit of the script and it was pretty lame, in my opinion), but that was a long time ago, so… hopefully they’ve improved it by now. Heheh.

I can’t believe you found this! I read about it on the internet about 3-4 years ago and have been wondering about it ever since!
Hey, I know this is kind of off topic, but I was wondering; I read that some animation studios pay storyboard artists per frame (as in, they get a certain amount of money for every picture they draw). Do a lot of studios do this, or do most just give a standard salary?
Hey, this is stupid!!! Didn’t you see all the cat-shaped buildings? I mean, come on!!! This has CAT-tastrophe written all over it!
Bryko614 - I asked my dad to read your question, and here is his response:
Storyboard Pay:
Most studios distribute a standard salary to their employees, but, in all honesty, it depends on the work at hand, what type of job is in question, and on the studio itself. Basically, though, the mathematics of it can be worked out in this format:
Feature Film Payroll: Approximately $50.00 per panel, give or take.
Television Show Payroll: Paid either per script page or weekly.
Other: Paid weekly, although, overall, it depends on the studio/project.
This particular format applies to storyboard artists… and possibly other artists in various departments. Although my dad is currently working in-house, he’s also on the hunt for freelance work (and has gotten several offers already), because, to be honest, just one job isn’t enough to pay all the bills…

looks like it’s going to be one of the worst movies of all time to me…

I second that for myself!
This movie I wanted to see badly was cancelled due to the company going bankrupt. It sounds like it might be back up in production again.
Here’s the plot:
“A cat named Rover has been raised as a dog in Dogtown by accident. He heads to Catopolis to discover where he really came from and find his roots. He meets Cleo, his love interest, who is sought after by Simon, a ruthless cat-box-litter executive. He then meets Newton, a guide and friend in Catopolis, who helps him find his roots.”
…Tarzan, with cats. That’s what this mad me think.
I’m pretty sure there’s a thread made for this before… can any Mods help me confirm this?
You’re right, TDIT. I’m merging the threads.
My gosh, Dogtown? Catopolis? Seriously?

What would you prefer? Ruffville? Meow Sewers of Whiskers Lane? Miles City and Otis Bridge?
Oh geez, I was happy to forget that this movie existed!
Oh geez, I was happy to forget that this movie existed!
But this movie doesn’t exist and probably never will exist. It is something I would love to see though if it did exist.
Sorry for the bump…
I LOVE cats with an unhealthy obsession, so seeing this made me kinda happy. It sounds cute to me, but maybe as a TV special or right to video deal.
Cats need to be put into more movies as good guys. While I do agree that the synopsis sounds horrid, I had the same feeling on Alpha and Omega and I LOVE that film. Im getting the same vibe I felt when I first heard of A&O when reading about this.
If it is still in production, I’d wanna see more before I see it…but it’s a movie with CATS!
