OK, well, it’s almost 2 AM over here right now so it’s technically the 22nd, but let’s not beleaver the moment.
I just wanted to point out that this day (Dec. 21st) is a commemorative day for all Disney fans. On this day exactly 70 years ago, Walt Disney’s first full-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, premiered at the Carthay Circle Theater. It wouldn’t be until February 4th of the next year that it was released in theaters. I just love thinking back on how Disney animation has endured and flourished the past 70 years, and how much it would influence people like us.
I can just imagine Walt having butterflies in his stomach that night, but also having a sense of accomplishment. He had to be REALLY proud of it that night.
And, as much as a visionary as he was, I don’t think he could’ve ever imagined on that night how huge his name would become and how much the world would change - just because he had a dream, the courage to delve into a new realm of entertainment, and the impulse to draw a little mouse while riding on the train. Sometimes I’m amazed at what has come out of his legacy - movies, TV shows, TV stations, a radio station, theme parks around the world, thousands of characters, a cruise line, a certain computer animation studio we all know and adore
, and a simple legacy that there’s always at least some good in the world to come back to. I know that when I get mad at how messed up the world is, I just pop in a Disney flick and I feel so much better.
So I’m going to go watch Snow White now, in my own celebration of this day. Thank you soooooo much for all you’ve done, Walt!! It would’ve been the coolest dream come true to have known you! ![]()
BTW, I got some of the info in this post from the Wikipedia page on Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. It had some stuff I never knew about - go check it out!! Copy and paste -------> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_White … (1937_film
