I’m seeing it on July 2nd, for my birthday party.
Darn it, I never have a good eye to spot those. I didn’t see it.
Merida shows up in Toy Story 3!!!
I’m Excited so I’m posting this everywhere. It’s a couple years later but shes there!
Right Under Mike From Monsters Inc.

I saw it again, the PP truck is definitely there! It’s exactly the same as the normal truck, except [spoil]smaller and made of wood.[/spoil]
^ That’s pretty clever. I’m going to see it in a few minutes. I’m glad I could see it tonight, because I’m always bummed when I have to wait until Saturday. I think others have it worse, though. ![]()
A113 and John Ratzenberger? I seem to have missed these two easter eggs.
John Ratzenberg plays some guard named Gordon.
That’s another two I missed! And I’ve always found those before.
Just got back from seeing it. Loved it. Although, I also seem to have missed A113 and John Ratzenberger, although I did see John’s name in the credits, so he WAS in it.
Yeah, I just got back from seeing it and didn’t notice either of the three easter eggs. Oops. But it was really great, critics are stupid. It was no Up, but it was entertaining and touching and I loved it and I got the soundtrack and I love it. The end ![]()
Yeah, I have to say I disagree with critics. I honestly do think they’re being extra critical in the context of the studio’s reputation. If Disney, a studio with many recent middle-of-the-road (or downright bad) films—and more importantly—a strong history of tackling traditional fairy tales, surely the film would have scored higher than the 70% range. So eh. I don’t think the film necessarily has any glaring flaws, and perhaps it didn’t reach its full potential for many, but it’s still a very decent film.
I’ll be writing a review soon, as I always do (they’re sooooo long!), but for now I’ll make note of where Brave stands within my Pixar rankings. Obviously, it’s above Cars films, which are at the bottom of the barrel for me, and it’s edging ahead of A Bug’s Life, which has less impressive emotional depth and dramatic moments but a more charming quality.
I loved it! Because there’s no Brave men’s shirt, I wore my Pixar Animation Studios shirt.
Oh, I should wear tartan ![]()
This movie’s main flaw is the pacing. It takes too long to get going and ends abruptly. Other than that, it’s really not bad. It’s pretty much a mid-level Pixar movie.
For those who’ve seen it, don’t spoil anything, but is it stated in the film how old Merida is?
i liked it…it was alright. didnt love it and def not of one of pixars best. unfortunately once again, there wasnt enough strong emotion in the film where i was actually able to shed a tear, but instead going “aww”. the pacing in the beginning feels a little fast…in terms of how we see the relationship with merida and her ma imo. the problem is that i felt trapped because there was like no “adventure” with merida…and the teaser trailer for brave with mordu is actually never in the film. its just the storyline is quite dulll!! but hey, it was better than cars 2. also they should have kept the title “the bear and the bow” or maybe just “bears” instead of brave, because the title has nothing to do with the film, imo.
There’s one little thing in the movie that I feel easily could’ve been changed to improve the story a tiny bit. I thought this the minute I saw the scene for the first time. Thoughts?
So, obviously the Will-o-the-wisps lead you to your fate, supposedly. The first time (not counting the prologue) that she sees one, it leads her to the witch’s hut, where she gets screwed over by the witch. The second time, although she figures out the solution to the curse, Mor’du almost kills her.
So the third time, when Merida is headed towards the ring of stones, I think it would’ve made so much more sense if the wisps led to Mor’du instead of the stones, and Merida deliberately decided not to follow the wisps. It would show how Merida has changed a bit as a character, taking matters into her own hands to change her fate, and it shows how someone’s destiny isn’t necessarily predetermined by mystical forces. You can change it. Besides, Merida could’ve found the stones without the wisps considering she managed to do it like 3 times…
Plus, it would make the scene where Merida finds the cottage the second time without the wisps more logical. That scene would help prove to her that she doesn’t need the wisps to change her fate. She can find what she needs to do on her own. As it stands, that scene is just a little weird and confusing. It’s pointless to not have the wisps show up as it stands since she finds the cottage either way. But if Merida’s relationship with the wisps changed at the end, that scene would have a clearer place in the story.
The Rotten Tomatoes score’s gone back up to 74%… it’s kind of been jumping up and down lately, hasn’t it? ![]()
I still think reviewers are judging the movie too harshly… the two most common complaints I see are that it doesn’t hold up against Pixar’s past works and that it feels too Disney-ey. I read one review saying that they felt as though Disney forced Pixar into using a female protagonist for political correctness and that we’ll probably be seeing a gay main character shoehorned into Monsters University, then stated that Disney has been forcing their left-wing agenda throughout the past few Pixar films. ![]()
Cars 2 I kinda get, with the whole ‘big oil’ theme, but Brave? I honestly don’t see how it could be promoting any sort of politics.
I’m removing this post because it seemed to just make people upset. I didn’t mean anything insulting by it, I simply wanted to make a point about how silly bringing politics into these movies it. Sorry for any hurt feelings.
I really, and I mean REALLY get pissed off when people try to bring their politics into movies like this. Not directing it at you, just saying. It just so ridiculous to me.
