Sure, she’s not beautiful. But she’s very cute and youthful ,and I like that. We don’t need a drop dead gorgeous princess.
But I still don’t think it matters that much. I’m not going to not see a movie just because a character is ‘ugly.’. She may be really awesome and cool. It’s what’s on the inside that counts.
Cute in the face, yes, but the thing that most attracts me to females is their hair, THEN their face. Her hair is what makes her ugly, and this is weird because I thought girls with red hair were supposed to be divine, but apparently not all of them are.
I am now against all Pixar movies with human characters as the focal point. What I go to see Pixar films for is things removed from this world by either a stitch or an entire alternate universe away. Toy Story is near our world, except that toys most likely do not come to life when people are absent. Pixar makes this believable, though, and that is awesome. Cars is a whole new universe; Ratatouille involves a rat doing things that no rat in our world would likely be able to do, or have the desire for. Monsters, Inc. is almost a different world, although it seems to be in the “stitch” category because their world seems exactly like ours, only with monsters instead of humans…hopefully Monsters, University will change that.
Finding Nemo is okay enough too, since the ocean is not a place humans can visit except through books and movies unless they ride in a submaarine or scuba dive, which can only take them so far. At any rate, only in aa Pixar film will you meet a vegetarian shark.
The “human” Pixar movies, though, belong in the ex-nay bin.
Anyway, I am convinced thaat this movie is coming out so that “Rise of the Guardiaans” can be good. It would seem that in order for a Dreamworks movie to be good for my tastes, the latest Pixar movie released before that one has to be one I wouldn’t like. It happened with Up and How to Train Your Dragon. So I expect it will happen with Brave and Rise of the Guardians.
Since you are probably shaking your head after reading the above paragraph, let me tell you that I haave just read Candide for a summer class at my university, anad the following is something from the first page:
“‘It is demonstrable,’ said he, ‘that things cannot be otherwise than as they are: for as all things haave been created for some end, they must necessarily be created for the best end. Observe, for instance, the nose is formed for spectacles, therefore we wear spectacles. The legs are visibly designed for stockings, accordingly we wear stockings. Stones were maade to be hewn and to contruct castles, thefreore My Lord has a magnificent castle, for the greates baron in the proince ought to be the best lodged. Swine were intended to be eaten, therefore we eat pork all the year round.’”
I agree. I’m getting more and more used to her design and I’m liking it more and more everyday. Leave it to Pixar, though, to make a princess which doesn’t go with the usual idea of what a princess should look like. Isn’t that kinda like how her character’s going to be, though?
But Brave is a fantasy. It may take place in Scotland, but it is removed from our world. And that goes for Pixar’s other human-centric films, too. Superheroes don’t exist in real life, and it would take a lot more than a few balloons to get a house to float. And as far as I’m concerned Pixar was much more successful in making those into believable worlds than they made Cars’.
I’m sorry to hear that Pixar doesn’t cator especially to you to have their characters to be up to your expectations.
Her hair is what makes her ugly? Ugly is not a fact, but a matter of opinion, don’t say statements that make your opinion appear to be fact
You just sterotyped a whole group of people based on one feature of them (red hair- divine). At least Pixar has opened your eyes to realize that not all red haired people fit into one neat stereotype
mr. lover of fiction,
that sounds absurd…and to be honest, your getting WAY into this…it’s just a movie.
Also, don’t use the word ugly…thats a lil extreme, don’t ya think?
Anyways, I like Merida the way she looks. She looks normal. She looks realistic. And i like reality in movies.
And first of all, i hate how everyone is judging the way she looks, when no one knows nothing of her personality. or for that matter, who she is. I have a feeling she’s going to be awesome, since she knows what she wants in her life. She’s got confidence. She doesn’t care what other people think of her. I like that.
Also, Kelly Macdonald has the cutest voice! It’ll go perfect to Merida. Look her up on youtube talking in an interview. I love her scottish accent!
Oh, Kelly MacDonald does have a sweet voice. It’s so small and cute! It is quite a Disney Princess voice, even with the accent. I didn’t know she was the lady on No Country for Old Men. Interesting.
Merida looks unique, which is nice. And besides she’s young, I’m sure she will look prettier once she’s a teenager. I’m going to assume, if the film does well it will have a sequel, maybe they will have her as a teenager in that one.
She does look younger to me too, but I think in reality she’s supposed to be a teenager like Spirit said. And I love Kelly Macdonald’s voice, I just listened to an interview and it fits Merida perfectly!
