Exactly what I think!

Interesting unofficial news about Brave, once again The Disney Mexican Blog announces that Patrick Doyle is the one who will make the SCORE for Brave, will this be real???

Patrick Doyle recently worked on THOR’s score

shouting chants loudly

Giacchino! Giacchino! Giacchino!

Just looked him up, and I’ve literally heard none of his work before. I’m sure he’ll do a good job, though - Pixar has good judgment.

I’m slightly disappointed that it’s not Thomas Newman (if the rumor is true). Patrick Doyle did the score for one of the Harry Potter installments, cant remember which one. A positive is that a British composer would be fitting for a British-centric feature, one would hope.

actually Patrick Doyle is Scottish

That guy looks like he means business  . I think it would be nice to see some new composers, especially one from Scotland.

I own a pair of Patrick Doyle soundtracks.

He scored The Goblet of Fire. He was better than some of the Nicholas Hopper pieces, but I still hold him a bit of a grudge for replacing John Williams (not really his fault).

He also scored Eragon, an awful movie with a very decent soundtrack I also have.

Yeah, that’s it, Goblet of Fire. I wasn’t entirely impressed with his works in that movie, but maybe that’s because I was biased by the John Williams preference. Hope he’ll bring something new to the current Pixar soundtrack composer line-up.

Question to the moderators: since Brave is only over a year from release, is it time to have its own box/forum for discussions? Not that it’s a big deal, but I’m just throwing it out there.

^ I second that. There’s new details of the movie every week, and the teaser should be released with Cars 2.

I’m really looking forward to Brave now  I wasn’t at first, but the more I hear about it the more excited I get

I’d never heard of Patrick Doyle before so I looked him up on YouTube and found a piece he did for Frankenstein  I really like it and keep replaying it  He seems like a good choice

Also slightly disappointed because I was hoping for a Bono and Newman collab, but I’m still excited for Paddy Doyle’s score. Good stuff

Prompted by this news/rumors, I gave Goblet of Fire OST another try. Don’t remember why I wasn’t that impressed with it back then, but now when I listen to it again, it’s surprisingly classy and memorable. Gotta say Doyle’s prominent style in this score is mellow, with a lot of strings and winds, instead of brass. His danger-related themes are not particularly impressive, but more pleasant, peaceful themes are magnificent.

I can totally picture Merida walk alone next to her horse on a vast vast meadow at dusk, while this sort of music is playing in the background

tbh i’ve never heard of this guy. i’m gonna check out his stuff on youtube now because, you know. insomnia. i’m still kinda upset it’s not thomas newman or john powell - even if that /was/ just a rumor - but, yeah. i should just go check this guy out.

okay, you need to stop making me more excited for this movie than i am already.

after have seen THOR yesterday I must say that if Pixar choose him to score Brave, they will be making one of the best choices ever

Thor soundtrack was INCREDIBLE, it has some beautiful catchy melodies, I really enjoyed it

Having also watched Thor last weekend (on Saturday), I can vouch for Bryan’s ravings for Patrick Doyle. I personally thought the Thor soundtrack was remarkable enough to stand out while I was watching the film, unlike say Randy’s score for Toy Story 3.

If the rumours are indeed true and he is the next composer for Pixar, I have very high hopes for him. I’m also kinda hoping for John Powell after the excellent work he did on HTTYD (another Scottish-inspired epic adventure) and Rio, but since he’s more of a Dreamworks and Blue Sky collaborator, it’s a little unlikely.

This is Berk - HTTYD
Morning Routine - Rio

Pricklepants: It’s a little early to start a new section, but I’ll forward your suggestion to Phileas and we’ll see what we can do. Perhaps we can wait until an official teaser is released before we start the new section?

yeah, they are really nice scores, but I personally think that Randy did an awesome job too, equally to what Powell did for HTTYD, in my opinion I can easyly say that The Claw + So Long beat all HTTYD + Rio Soundtracks together,
those melodies (TC & SL) are so deep and remarkable,

So Long = Married Life = Define Dancing

Like bryanbmp, I also thought Newman did a oustanding job in Toy Story 3. Maybe not in the same league as HTTYD or Giacchino’s works, but great nevertheless.

To be fair, I think all of Pixars scores, by all 3 composers who have contributed, have been really good. Out of the 3, Randy is probably my least favourite as I’m not really into his orchestrially jazzy style, but his score to A Bug’s Life and Monsters, Inc. are SO catchy, and he does an outstanding job in all he does. Then theres nothing but praise for Michael Giachianno (can’t spell), possibly one of the most versatile composers I’ve ever heard, especially so in his score for The Incredibles. Thomas Newman is my favourite composer full stop; his minimalist style may be a bit more “marmite”, but I think it was perfectly suited for WALL-E and Finding Nemo. I’m looking forward to Patrick Doyle, if the rumours can be confirmed; although he has a hard act to follow, I think he’ll do fantastically.

This is exactly why I wouldn’t want Powell, he might be too likely to just repeat the same things he did in HTTYD, which I would not want. No matter how good people might feel the HTTYD score was, I would rather Brave be distinctly different.
