I agree with a lot of what you say, except, once again, with the HTTYD comparison.
I don’t see any resemblance, either thematic or in tone, between these films.

See, my problem is that I have trouble figuring out the tone of Brave because the trailer’s not the greatest. It’s inevitable that the film will be compared with HTTYD, at least at this point. I mean, I was getting deja-vu looking at some of the characters (Merida’s father) and bleak environment. Not making any sort of accusations that Pixar has copied Dreamworks, but, again, the similarities are inevitably going to be brought up. Now we just have to see later on if the two films really are similar beyond being computer-animated films set in Scotland!
I like your points, Q_o_P, but I just thought to add…
I don’t really see the How To Train Your Dragon comparison either. Firstly, that film, despite popular belief, isn’t actually set in Scotland, or at the very least it shouldn’t be! Because in the books it’s a fictional world of Vikings. I’m pretty sure that Vikings resided around Scandinavia. Secondly, the tone, as SoA pointed out, at least seems to be very different to HTTYD, and the characters motives are different aswell. With the exception of “misfit character goes on an adventure in spite of parent whom they rebel against but love really’s wishes” (although there isn’t really much to suggest that Merida’s a misfit, just someone rebellious), I can’t see plot similarities either. As far as I can recall, there is no magic in HTTYD, which is something Brave appears to centre around.
However, I do know what you mean about Brave’s tone. It does seem very ambigious and hopefully this well be for the better.
I don’t think Berk was supposed to be Scotland, but more of a Scandinavian location, but I may be wrong there.
^My thought exactly
It’s DreamWorks shooting themselves in the foot by casting a mix of Scottish, American and Canadian actors.
It is sort of weird how HTTYD has SUCH a strong Scottish influence, but yes, it’s not in Scotland. I honestly forget sometimes, because of the accents, actors, and other very Scottish-like elements of the movie. The setting reminds me of something like Scotland as well.
I would consider a dragon to be “magical” in that it’s complete fantasy. Although you could argue that it’s presented as part of the characters’ reality in the story, so that might make it a different situation. I don’t think the plots are going to be that similar, however. It’s just the tone/mood/whatever-you-call-feeling that’s a wild card at this point.
Yes. Also, Powell’s score had a distinctly Scottish style, which may contribute to that impression.
John Powell’s score to that film is amazing… <3
Can’t wait to hear Patrick Doyle’s score to Brave
I agree, best of last year.
How do you guys think A113 will get in there?
Another trinket, maybe? Or a poster? Or written on a scroll?
Maybe. I was thinking carved on a table or or maybe something in Merida’s room.
Hmm, maybe
Well, that one is far easier to put in than the truck.
we’ll be speculating that truck forever
Should I still go with the Flux Capacitor thing?
Perhaps you should. Along with the million and one other suggestions!
The fact that they actually confirmed that the truck will be in it is annoying me.
Just think, Merdia is doing something and all of a sudden the truck comes from out of no where. It’s quiet for a moment then the door opens. Buzz Lightyear comes out of the truck along with the Caption from Wall-E. They look and Merida and she looks at them .They slowey go back in the truck and take off.
Maybe the Pizza Planet truck will be a pretty, pretty cloud.
Maybe there will be a dream sequence! Into the future!
