Central Brave Discussion

That is a crappy title. :unamused: 8D It really gives it a childish feel, totally opposite the trailer.

I am in love with that poster. <3

I noticed that they have the Toy Story 3 logo in there. I don’t remember them having it in the U.S. trailer.

The Japanese poster looks amazing!

Aparrently, Brave is going to be used in a campaign to increase tourism in Scotland. :unamused:

That sounds interesting. 8D

That sounds quite interesting.

Do Pixar films do good in Japan? Do they get good reviews and make some good money.

I’ve heard they do very well.

Oh. I wasn’y sure if they were in to American animated films since they got a lot of anime there.

^Disney is very popular in Japan. They wouldn’t of built a Disneyland in Tokyo if there was no market. American animation is popular there as well. I can’t say as comparison to anime, but American cartoons do well there as well.

American animation, especially stuff like Disney and Pixar, seems to be every bit as popular in Japan as their native animation. That’s just how it is with Disney, they’re very universal.

I think I remember reading they don’t do so good in Russia.

I’m just speculating this, but [spoil]Why do Elinor and the triplets turn into bears, but Merida and King Fergus don’t?[/spoil]

I think [spoil]the Queen and the triplets will end up not turning into bears. The bear family is like the guardians of the sacred forest or something, and since Merida will do something to break the peace between human and forest, the bears will do some revenge stuff, but not necessarily turning humans into bears[/spoil]. Pure speculation here, of course.

I pray you’re right, Pricklepants. I hate transformations.

Sounds good to me. 8D

Just thought you guys might like to know the actual statistics of Pixar’s box office performance in Japan. Hopefully that’s still relevant to the thread and shouldn’t need to be moved elsewhere! For starters, there are usually only 1-3 movies annually that surpass the 100 mil mark, and I don’t think I remember seeing any numbers over 200 for the last decade. The following top 10 performing movies make about $40-60 mil. Soooo in other words almost every Pixar movie listed was one of the top movies of the year in Japan (as in top 15)! Yay!

  • Toy Story 3 - 127 mil (#2)
  • Finding Nemo - 102 mil (#3)
  • Monsters, Inc. - 74 mil (#3)
  • Up - 53 mil (#6)
  • The Incredibles - 50 mil (#6)
  • Wall-E - 44 mil (#7)
  • Cars 2 - 38 mil (#11)
  • Ratatouille - 33 mil (#11)
  • Cars - 12 mil (#32)

This surpasses almost all other American animated films of recent years, such as Kung Fu Panda (17 mil), The Princess and the Frog (4 mil), Tangled (31 mil), How to Train Your Dragon (6 mil), Despicable Me (14 mil).

I didn’t calculate all the total box office earnings for major animation studios, but it looks like Studio Ghibli and Pixar are the top earners, and Disney follows, with Dreamworks next (I don’t think I saw a recent DWKs movie do over 20 mil), and other studios following. Kinda interesting. It looks like Pixar is BIG in Japan!

Hopefully this isn’t a completely off-topic post, as this may help speculate how Brave will do. I honestly don’t think Brave will be one of the most popular Pixar films but I’m guessing it’ll at least do better than Cars.

That is very interesting.

For this movie, I really hope that the score is the best! For this type of setting, it has to be! Really can’t wait to see it

I have high expectations for this score. If it’s what I’m hoping it is, I’ll gladly buy the CD release (if they make one).

I see the score being excellent with all the action and adventure we should get.
