here she is:

First Image from Pixar’s BRAVE

She looks gorgeous, I really love her

So, Patrick Doyle’s doing the score for this movie, right? I saw Thor about a week ago and really liked it. I think this will be amazing

guys. guys. GUYS. THIS MOVIE IS MADE FOR ME OR SOMETHING I SWEAR. billy connolly. craig ferguson. scotland. gingers. princesses. FEMALE PROTAGONIST OMGGGG -

  • the day i see this movie will be the best day of my life.

She’s lovely!

bits&pieces, I am so with you. A folkloric Scotland in the Dark Ages populated with wild ginger archer-ladies? Completely tailor-made for me. And if Doyle’s score does take some cues from medieval balladry, I think I will be reduced to incoherent glee.

Oh gosh, can Pixar do attractive human characters at all? Or do they just choose not to?

After seeing this image, I am unhappy with Brave. I was unhappy with it before because if it was between saving Newt and this, I would’ve rather had Newt. And this obviously had its issues with its constant change of directors and voice actors and titles.

Anyway, this is the fourth Pixar movie I have no intentions of seeing, and the teaser hasn’t even been released yet…

I did end up seeing two Pixar movies I planned not to, Cars and Up. Cars because I thought it would be about racing, and was glad to see it wasn’t. This forum already knows what I feel about Up.

Wall-E was the other Pixar film I chose not to see, and I still haven’t seen it and do not plan to after Up was a disappointment.

^And all the things that the guy above mentioned also make me not want to see this movie. Not to mention that I don’t like Pixar saying that this isn’t a movie in the Disney princess vein. The Disney princess movies are awesome. This “gritty” tale sounds like a rejection of that mentality.

But I still like Pixar and hope that the teaser will change my mind.

I am sorry, I have no need to come over as rude or something, but judging a movie, an unreleased movie, just by how a character looks sounds a bit… silly.

I don’t mind unattractive characters in animation at all… if they have a good backstory or motivation.

But then, people usually think the things I find cute/cool/awesome are just odd, so I am probably not one who should be talking.

lover_of_fiction: not trying to be rude here, but is it just me or do you tend to judge movies before you see them a ~lot~? i remember you said the ~fact~ that wall-e fans think cars is pixar’s weakest movie makes you not want to see that movie. and here you are, saying the exact same thing. nobody’s going to /force/ you to see the movie, but don’t you think it’d be a good decision to see the actual film before having an opinion on it?

second of all, uh, yes, disney princess movies /are/ awesome. nobody said they weren’t. pixar isn’t doing this to purposely go ~against the grain~. i’m pretty sure brenda chapman wrote the story for this /years/ ago and then while she was at pixar they asked her if she’d like to direct it (i’m not saying that all had a happy ending, but you know.) i adore disney princess movies and i’m still incredibly excited for this. who says you can’t enjoy both?

and yes, pixar /can/ make attractive human characters. and they have. several times.

i’m pretty sure this image was leaked and pixar didn’t want anyone to see it yet, anyway. one more thing…

newt had its problems, too. that’s /why/ it got shelved. and no offense, but i don’t think ~one~ title change and as far as i know, one voice actor change and one director change counts as /constant/.

i’m not trying to come off as rude, and i have respect for your thoughts and opinions, but really now.

bits&pieces said exactly what I wanted to say, and did it in a very tasteful manner

Lol, VERY good reason indeed 8D

I think passing judgment on the entire film based on an unofficial still (which, as a lot of folks have pointed out elsewhere, is probably an in-between shot, a bit blurry, and certainly not the most flattering image that could have been chosen for the first look at a new character) is as bad as the let’s-hate-Cars-2-before-it’s-even-been-released bandwagon. And at least those people not looking forward to Cars 2 have a bit of trailer footage to go on!

I’m a bit mystified by the notion (put forth by someone else earlier in the thread, too) that Merida might somehow fall short of the mark because she’s not as ravishingly gorgeous as a Disney princess. The monopoly some fans have given Disney Princesses as worthy protagonists in fairytales does a disservice not only to fairy tale plots (Pixar doesn’t want to pretty up this fairy tale. Neither would the Grimms), but to a lot of the girls – young and old – who are looking forward to seeing this movie. The implication, though clearly not meant, is what, that only attractive girls are worthy of going on adventures?

Not every protagonist in fiction is beautiful, and certainly not every princess is beautiful. And no animation studio is going to create a protagonist who is completely aesthetically unpleasant, given that they want audiences to identify, not recoil. If this movie were being made by the Disney side, the tropes would probably be a bit different, but that’s no reason to knock this one because it doesn’t fit the mold of a studio who’s not making it. Or not watch it at all for a reason that has nothing to do with the quality of the story.

And for what it’s worth, I think Merida is absolutely adorable, and will look even better in a less awkward shot.

The teaser hasn’t even been released yet, give it a chance!

d’aww, thank you! :[D tbh it was pretty much all venting & i’m still kinda surprised i said all that, lol.

BTW IS ANYONE STILL SO RELIEVED SHE’S ACTUALLY GOING TO HAVE A SCOTTISH ACCENT? kelly macdonald ftw.

also, there is a tumblr for this movie. i just found it and the screencap was posted there and everyone there is freaking out (in a good way, y’know) and it’s not helping my excitement for this movie UGH 2012 COME FASTER PLZ. D:

I AM! Words can’t say how happy I was when I found out about that. Having an authentic accent makes the character more enjoyable for me personally.

This movie was made for me. Scottish-accented redheads? Actual European-y artwork? I’m in!

I am, even though it’s gonna be a bit more difficult me to dissect the accent. I’m so used to American accent, and as a result, I struggle pretty badly with British accent. You can guess, English is not my first language

I’m totally with you all on the crazy anticipation! I’m so happy the teaser is almost here, but then from that point it’s still going to be an entire year :frowning:

And I’m loving all the authentic accents in the mix. It really does seem like they’re going to play this as authentically as possible on several fronts, and I can’t even tell you how promising to me that is. I’m a huge Scottish history and folklore nerd, and I’ve been trying (half-successfully) to learn Scots over the last year or so – so while I imagine they’re going to tone the accents down a bit just so the dialogue can be widely understood, they’ll still be real, which is against the norm in the absolute best possible way.

It’s not? But you’re doing great! (Unlike me  )

Where are you from?

No what are you talking about? You’re doing magnificently!

I’m from Vietnam originally, but been living in the US for a while now.

Oh, that’s great. I should also move to learn English more quickly.

And thanks!
