Central Cars 2 Discussion (Part 2)

I like the first Cars better then the sequel. I thought it had a better story and more heart-felt drama. I thought the racing scenes were too short and completely overshadowed with the spy plot and what’s happening with the lemons. It’s too bad though because they could of done alot of visual thrills with theses races, such as the Tokyo race. The story just felt like an absolute mess, especially with the first half of the movie.

Did most of you guys want more Lighting/Sally scenes?

^Yes, absolutely! Or even just more screen time for the RS group in general.

Not me.

The first one had a better story, but it was too cheesy for my tastes.

The second one is even cheesier, but at least it has cool sequences that keep my attention.

I definitely did. I prefer them both to Mater.

Pefereably, I would prefer more lightning, then mater, then sally.

I would also like more Lighting/Sally.

I rather more sally and less mater and I would like to see more races ‘cuz are more exciting you feel the sound, the cars goin’ faster, the races are amazing Pixar has made a good job with that but it seems that they were running from one scene to other because there is no enough time and there were so much spy plot
for example: the scene in paris was unnecessary they give total attention on mater when we need a race there with lightning and sally by his side watching him racing

Here’s something I didn’t understand about Cars 2. Sally tells Lightning that he never takes Mater to any of his races, yet Mater was at the tie-breaker race at the end of the first film.

^ I didn’t get that either. Seemed like a pathetic excuse to bring Mater along. Just another thing that Pixar could have put more effort into. And I don’t understand, if he never goes to the races then how was he suddenly able to pick up the position in the pits so easily? Cars 2 just felt like it was thrown together and lacked real drive behind the plot. I had to watch it like 4 times before I even grasped what exactly was going on with the Lemons and their mission. I still couldn’t explain it clearly. Cars had more purpose to me, it ran smoothly like a story should. The rise, the climax, the fall. Cars 2 was a rollercoaster of random events held together by thin connections. I’m beginning to think the only real reason I liked Cars 2 was because it is the sequel to Cars, and it has nice things to look at and a light-hearted style to it.

Yep, which is why I thought the film’s first half was an absolute mess. Cars 2 should of been still in the 2012 slot like it was originally supposed to be if it meant fixing the story. Alot of wasted story potential and poor character development with the new characters doesn’t work well.

That’s a very good point.

I’m sorry for getting off topic but I couldn’t pass this by
here is a screeshot from cars 2 when the cars make the world grand prix logo on the mel dorado show and lightning appears there with his new paint job

how do they know that lightning will be using this paint job? :open_mouth:

Yes wholeheartedly! Or like Snipe said, the RS group also. I missed them throughout the movie. :frowning:

I caught on to that too, Ballboi.

^^^^^^^ This. I could point out quite a number of things in the movie that just didn’t make sense to me for the longest time (and there’s a couple that still don’t). I thought I was the only one (and questioned my intelligence) but yeah, I’m right there with you. If someone asked me after my first viewing what the lemon’s plot was, I would be like “Ummmm… something about oil and hating racecars. Oh, there was a camera too!” Like there was no comprendo. 8D

My theory on that…if Cars 2 was still set to release in 2012, we would be getting a whole different (and I think, much better) movie.

Destiny: Woah, I didn’t notice he was in there. What I think is weird is that he wasn’t even in the Prix yet. 'Cause apparently, he declined the invitation in order to stay at home. :open_mouth: o_0 Bt-dubbs, the way they did that logo with the different racers is pretty neat, I like it. :sunglasses:

I thought the plot of Cars 2 was shallow, but not hard to follow, but I keep listening that complain, so there must be some truth on it, I guess.

Despite it’s flaws, I thought Cars 2 was just an average movie. I’m guessing why the critical reception was low is because people weren’t expecting this kind of movie from Pixar.

I agree ^^. I think if it was by Dreamworks it would’ve gotten decent to good reviews.

Did you guys see it in theaters more then once? I only saw it one time.

I only saw it once, in 2D of course.

Is it me or is 3D dying down now?
