New Rearendia doesn’t exist, it is a Pixar idea
No, no, I wasn’t talking about real life. Neither was I joking.
I was talking in-universe. That’s the official information that was released along the character:
The former European colony and newly independent Republic of New Rearendia is desperate to put their name on the map — the #10 open-wheeled racer Rip Clutchgoneski is their best bet. After putting together a remarkable string of qualifying races, Rip’s entry into the World Grand Prix is clearly the Cinderella story of the competition. Though Rip credits luck for his chance on the international stage, it’s really skill and exuberance that brought the proud New Rearendian racer to the starting line.
My theory is that all these World Grand Prix participants (CaRoule, Carla, Todoroki, the Aston Martin car from England, this New Rearendia car, etc) are the equivalents of Bonnie’s bedroom toys. They are there because of the story arc (the World Grand Prix race), but not exactly contributing or involved in the main plot. Flashy back stories and pun-filled names kind of confirm this, because the movie will not touch these back stories - therefore, marketing materials are the only place for the filmmakers to run wild with their imagination. I don’t expect these race cars to have more than a few lines in the movies, if at all.
The Italian car (Francesco Bernoulli), however, will be the Kens of Cars 2. It seems he’ll have a big role to play in the plot. Voice by a great/well-known actor, too.
Professor Z is Lotso, while Grem and Acer are Twitch/Chunk/Stretch of that world, etc. You get the gist.
hahahhaha, you made me laugh
I was surprised because I thought Spirit of Adventure really believed there was such a country, hence my statement “There’s no such country” and the following offer to explain himself, “unless you were being tongue-in-cheek?” Not because I thought the country was real.
But if I made you laugh, I’m glad. Making folks laugh is my specialty (at least in my self-deluded mind!). ![]()
Thanks for the info, Spirit of Adventure. Clearly, you’re a spy master!
Great analysis, Pricklepants. I don’t really think the supporting characters will contribute much to the plot (unless Francesco is a double-agent… I’m taking bets now that he is a ‘Pete Docter’ villain). If anything, they are homages to racing cultures around the world (and a fantastic opportunity for merchandise producers to sell in different markets!).
I have a feeling Professor Z is similar to Lotso in the sense that his plans to take over the world is because of some personal revenge against a previous injustice (either committed by someone or his community), and not so much about the money or the power. Unless, of course, this is a red herring and it’s really all about the money.
Have you seen the video game trailer?
Francesco produces a weapon, as if he were an agent, so maybe that confirms that theory.
On the other hand, maybe every character has weapons on the game ![]()
Cars 2 reminds me of Speed Racer or Wacky Racers! ![]()
I had a look at the game trailer. Turret guns, guided missiles… and did I just see Holley with a plasma cannon? ![]()
I think the levels of dirty-racing in this game (and perhaps the movie) makes Chick Hicks’ tactics look like child’s play!
I’ve seen the new trailer a few times now and it really changes my opinion on the film as a whole. Yes, it still does have corny one-liners, but as someone said before, most spy movies do. And while I am understanding it’s a spy movie, as John Lasseter said, it’s not a parody of one. It appears there’s a heart-filled serious plot alongside the secret agent stuff. I’m also starting to understand how the plot will go along (I don’t think I need spoiler tags because this is just fan interpretation):
I’m guessing it’ll start off with Finn McMissile on a high-speed spy pursuit, and then cut to the quiet, fun, relaxed town of Radiator Springs. Radiator Springs will probably have more guests in it than in the first film, though. It will show Lightning, Mater, Sally, Sheriff, Luigi, Guido, Filmore, Red, Ramone, Flo, Lizzie, and Sarge living the average life they do every day (and maybe even make a reference to Mater’s Tall Tales
). They’ll mention Doc’s death or him leaving the town or whatever, but they’ll make it quick so it doesn’t distract from the mood. Lightning (or Mater) will eventually announce the news that he’s racing in the World Grand Prix. Filmore, Sarge, Luigi, Mater, and Guido will volunteer to be his pit crew, and then he’ll say goodbye to his sweetheart and other friends. I assume the race will start off in Tokyo, unless they made the trailers really misleading. Mater will be in a hotel or something where he’ll overhear a conversation Finn is having. Finn will mistake him for an American spy, they’ll introduce themselves, and he is immediately sucked into a big conspiracy.
I have an idea of how the story will go from here, but I’m not sure on the details. I know that both Lightning and Mater will visit several destinations around the world, and at some point in the plot they will separate, but then Lightning will come back to save Mater near the end, possibly forfitting the race in doing that. The only reason I’m not sure about that is because then it would have too similar a plot to the first movie.
Anyway, long story short, if my interpretations are correct, I’ll love this film, and I’ll be seeing it on June 24th in IMAX 3D as I did with TS3. I also can’t wait to see the Toy Story Short in front of it. ![]()
Guys the race cars aren’t spies.
You can make any of the characters have guns in the video game. I read that somewhere.
I didn’t really like the video game trailer because it didn’t really show anything except for a few cars and they’re holding weapons. ![]()
As for New Rearendia, I doubt every single thing Pixar puts out about Cars is a parody of something we have in our world.
I saw a few people were talking about it being another butt joke or dirty joke, however those people don’t realize this:
Rear ending is a form of a car accident. When one is rear ended, they are caught without being prepared which is why it’s the person who was behind the car’s fault. Apparently, their little spot much have been rear ended, which is why Rip is trying to win the World Grand Prix - to have their spot recognizable. ![]()
I know all the racers aren’t spies.
But we’re saying maybe one of them turns out to be one (or a villain, most likely) And Francesco appears as a good candidate.
Well, Lasseter talks about how much he loves the character Francesco in that recent video he did, so Im assuming he’ll have a large part in this movie. He’ll either be a villian working for Professor Z, which I doubt, ORRR he starts off by being a jerk to McQueen (since his character is full of himself) and later in the film eventually friends mcQueen and helps him and Mater with the whole spy scheme and villains. Just saying…
He’s just going to be another Chick Hicks. They pretty much told us that.
Guys, have you thought where will the Pizza Planet Truck be in Cars 2???
and also how will they manage to hide the next pixar film character: Brave???
Well, since we’re not working at Pixar, we don’t exactly have to worry about hiding things into the movie, do we? ![]()
But anyway, if I have to venture a guess, Pizza Planet truck will just pop up at the races, like the first Cars? And in Brave, it will be disguised as some sort of street vendor in the main square of the kingdom or something?
I’ll let you know once I finalize those thoughts.
Sincerely,
John L.
Guys, have you thought where will the Pizza Planet Truck be in Cars 2???
and also how will they manage to hide the next pixar film character: Brave???
Yes, constantly.
Not about Cars 2, or course. Hiding a Truck on a movie about talking cars is totally easy, but I don’t know what can they do in Brave.
Maybe they put the logo and stuff on a carriage, but I think it would look like a Shrek move. I would like if they manage to have it on its original form, but so in the background that it would be really hard to spot (and so that everybody wouldn’t discover the anachronism, just very observant Pixar fans).
maybe we would see Merida in a car form, hahaha, just kidding
one character will be hidden there for sure, as SoA said the logo and stuff on a carriage sounds possible
I think we could see one of them:
Merida
Her Mother
The Bear
A Bow and and Arrow
Speaking of Pixar traditions, I’m so excited about how they put together the credits for Cars 2. Are they gonna compile a series of parodies, like the last Cars? That would be awesome, seeing Ratatouille or Up or, errrr, Wall-E, characters in wheels ![]()
^ That would be epic. John Ratzenberger would probably have something to do with it again. As for a Brave character, there are TONS of medieval castles in Paris, so I’m sure they could hide a character near one.
^ England would be more appropriate, then, since Brave is set on Scotland.

Scotland has castles as well.
It’s a big overstatement saying that there are ‘tons’ of castles in England, France, or Scotland. It’s not like they’re on every corner or anything.
