I wouldn’t say that yet.

Most trailers are “flashy”, because they pick the most exciting scenes then edit them together to create that effect.

Uh… which post are you responding to, SoA?

Sorry, TDIT, I forgot to add the quote.

I already fixed it.

Lasseter talks Cars 2

In this new interview posted by Disney’s official YT channel, DisneyLiving, John Lasseter talks about how he came up with the idea for the upcoming sequel. He also drops a few hints about what’s to come as well as dishing out a few facts about what was cut from the original film.

I hope you guys enjoy it.

I’m still pretty mixed on the film as a whole. But I’ll end up seeing it.

Well, he’s just saying old things on a new interview, but anyway, it’s wonderful to hear from him.

What a delightful guy.

Sorry about the double post, but here’s a new character, Rip Clutchgoneski, the racer from the Republic of New Rearendia:

This looks like the video he sent to the Toy Fair (or whatever it was) where Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer showed up. Methinks Lasseter used the word “Fantastic” a bit too much

Anyway, I don’t know about you guys, but as an avid Pixar fan, I’ll do my best to go see this movie as early as I can (maybe not midnight show, but some time shortly after), and maybe a few more times if I really enjoy it, which I’m sure I will. It’s not like us Pixar fans have that many ways to show support, is it? It’s animation production, not basketball/football, where you can pass on today’s game and attend the next week’s. This is an once-a-year opportunity, so why not be a bit more supportive and relax that suspicious feeling?

8D He always overuses the enthusiastic words, you’re right.

But I think that’s one of the things that makes him fantastic. If I were him I would also be enthusiastic.

I think its just his personality, and as long as his films keep being good, he can overuse whatever words he wants.

The country of New Rearendia? lol, does that mean there’s an original Rearendia?

And I like that video from Lasseter, what a great guy. I like how he says “This isn’t a parody of a spy movie, this is a spy movie”

And that makes me have hope for this being a really good movie. TS3 was pretty much a prison break movie, not a parody of it.

John: -And he’s so full of himself.
Me: Because he’s Italian!
John: -And he’s so Italian!
Me: I love you.
:sunglasses:
I can’t wait for Cars 2.

Thanks for the updates aerostarmonk and Spirit of Adventure!

Ohohoho, the great Hawaiian-Shirt Man has spoken! And man, I love his shirt (though I think he’s worn that number before)

Well, Mr Lasseter certainly is the master of the hyperbole, but his enthusiasm is so infectious. Great bit about how Finn McMissile was meant to be portrayed in the first movie (screened at the very place that is my username). Great insight into how he came to conceive the idea for the sequel, I think I mentioned this before, but in the first movie, Lightning, a big city-car, gets stuck in a small town. And in this sequel, the roles are reversed, Mater, a small-town car, gets to go the biggest cities in the world!

I’m a bit annoyed with the little sales pitch to the toy merchandise at the end of the video, though I like the Lego sets!

Also, regarding Clutchgoneski, I have no idea what country is he supposed to be from. New Zealandia? (Which was the old name for New Zealand) That’s not the flag colour scheme. A former Soviet Block country, or Israel, judging from his Jewish-sounding last name? I’m thoroughly confused.

Is it weird a part of me is almost a bit worried by the fact it’s really not a parody or homage to spy movies but trying to be a spy flick in its own right?

(It makes me side eye the apparent villian with the monacle a bit more than before though because I actually thought it was going to be just a homage to that sort of thing in a way- if they wanted to get away with such a character design. It’s such a cliche in such films to have a monacle. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere it’s almost like pasting on a twirly moustach on a human character and making them a villian.)

Granted he does seem to be delightfully enthusiastic though that’s to be expected, he loved working on the original after all. Merchandise I think is simply what meant it was more easily accepted most probably as an idea in general by the company but I never really got the impression that was Lasseter’s own personal reason for working on it. He genuinely loves Cars and loves the idea of the sequel.

mentalguru: Yeah, he’s even passionate about toys in general. What I was miffed about was that the video editors showed some quick cuts of the merchandise they’re planning to sell, instead of keeping the cam on Mr Lasseter. Granted, maybe they meant to show ‘examples’, but it felt like a 10-second sales pitch or ‘sneak preview’ for me.

I also agree that the fact they made the villain such a cliche makes me a bit wary about how committed they are to making this a serious spy movie. I like villains who look ordinary (so there’s no way of telling if he’s a bad guy or not), or handsome/beautiful (like Charles Muntz and Mirage, deceptively good-looking). Having him ugly, with a monocle, maybe a scar along the side, is ‘Dr-Evil’ material.

And as I’ve said many times, the latest trailer began wonderfully, but degenerated into an Austin-Powers spoof from the subsequent choice of music and clips. If they wanted to make it a ‘spy movie’, ditch the slapstick scenes, show more explosions and maybe a little flirting between Mater and Holley, and keep the music instrumental and espionage-flavoured.

The trailer editors really need to watch how MGM and EON do their Bond trailers- full of intrigue, danger, excitement, mystery and mild eroticism. By the last bit, I mean they should have a little double-entendre here, a slow-mo shot of a car cruising in front of a waterfall there, that sort of thing. Again, watch any Bond trailer, and you can hear the witty one-liners and admire the Bond girls rising out of the ocean, or in a stunning dinner dress, or something of that sort.

The bidet joke, the fall into the septic tanker, that sort of thing, would never be seen in a Bond film trailer. It’ll fit right into a Get Smart, Johnny English or Austin Powers spoof.

Yes, they were recently made independent.

I love Lasseter’s speech, he is so awesome, on the other hand I haven’t heard 'till now the complete idea (scene) in which Sally and Mcqueen date at the movie theater wantching a Finn McMissile spy film, that is so great

^ You’re right, that was new. We knew Finn was on the original film but now we know how.

SoA, to quote Holley, “You’ve got to be joking.”
There’s no such country… unless you were being tongue-in-cheek?
