Central Cars 2 Discussion

Like I said CarsLuver, Pixar was more dignified with its marketing campaigns before Toy Story 3. The constant updates by way of character turntables might excite the die-hard fans, but it comes off as poor form to me when every other studio does this more subtly and professionally.

Again, KFP2 is posting its updates on Facebook, the DWAnimation Twitter page, and on its official Youtube channel. It doesn’t push all its secondary videos onto Apple Trailer, instead keeping only its teaser, superbowl spot, and first trailer there. What Pixar is doing is its ‘bumping’ its thread by sending out its turntable videos to various film criticism and movie sites to garner more publicity and attention. If I’m mistaken in my ‘media release’ theory, that still doesn’t discount the fact that they churn a new character turntable every few days for the sites to pick up on and post on their pages.

Although this is expressly the sole purpose of marketing, this is very uncharacteristic of a studio which puts its trust and confidence in its final product, instead of flogging it to death every week. That should be left to the fans like you and me, who will plug it for them anyway.

What Pixar could’ve done is leave three videos on Apple Trailer, run its ChromeLeaks viral campaign (which I think is very clever), and post any secondary footage such as the multitude of turntable videos on its Youtube channel only. And even then, they shouldn’t release more than say, ten, because chances are, hardly half of these characters will have anything more than a few minutes of cameo before they make way for other sideline characters.

Finding Nemo didn’t plug every single minor character in its marketing campaign, as did The Incredibles. And they had huge lists of extras. So I’m struggling to comprehend why Pixar is revealing its entire cast prematurely at the expense of good taste. I know I can always avoid watching the turntable videos or ignore this campaign altogether, but I think it deserves some valid criticism from a well-meaning fan.

The only thing that bothers me is them releasing clips this late the other stuff I don’t see how it bothersome,I just don’t… LOL… but I guess they heard my answer cause loook:[url]CARS 2 - Bathroom Clip - Disney Pixar (Stitch Kingdom) - YouTube LOL…I’m just ready for the complaints… :stuck_out_tongue:

A full serving of the toilet scene… Yaaaay!!!

Lulz

For the first time ever, I got the jump on y’all! Ladies and gentlecars, may I proudly present, the new Cars 2 trailer! I swear, Pixar must be telepathic or something, because no sooner than I had finished my annoying assignment than I saw the site being updated!

trailers.apple.com/trailers/disney/cars2/

It’s so new when I watched it a few minutes ago, they still haven’t got the resolution right! (There’s two black bars down the side) But expect it to be corrected within the next few hours or so once the video has finished rendering.

After you have watched this trailer, you can safely read the spoiler-tagged info.

Much, much better than the first few trailers, although there is too much focus on Mater and not enough Finn or Holley. Bernoulli fans will be pleased to hear the Italian bragster for the first time.

Also, the editing keeps going back and forth and the music leaves much to be desired. I really wished they had gone with a dramatic and tense ‘killer ending’ instead of the feel-good jolly-good-show-what-a-pleasant-adventure vibe.

Still feels like a spy spoof to me, but hopefully I’ll be proven wrong when I finally see it. Fingers crossed that Professor Z is a formidable baddie who means business and not a ‘straw villain’.

Still, I like the hint of the climax just before the title card. I hope it will be just as exciting an [spoil]aerial-rescue sequence[/spoil] as Rio!

P.S. You might be surprised to know the [spoil]bidet joke doesn’t appear in this one. So we all lost the bet![/spoil] 8D

I’m unable to watch it. How did you do?

You can watch it here as well:

[spoil]No toilet joke, yessssss!!![/spoil]

TDIT:Yeah,I’d agree with it being too focused on Mater and not the other new characters…the rest of the stuff I don’t care about…I’d rather wait to cast my opinions on the movie rather than the trailer… :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh and I guess [spoil]Siddley is the good guy after all[/spoil]…
And the [spoil]Wheel-Well looks so beautiful[/spoil]as does Sally… 8D

Thanks. Coincidentally I ended up watching it on that site.

Oh my gosh, this new trailer has me extremely relieved for some reason. It looks so good.

The bit with Mater makes me sad! =(

Time to watch it twenty more times. 8D

As I said, it’s still being rendered on the Apple Trailer site- when I opened it, I could see it, although it had black bars running down the sides (like the image was squashed to half its width). I’m glad you found it through StitchKingdom though, what do you think about it?

That’s ‘Fairy Nuff’ that you’d rather wait for the movie. As I’ve said, my criticisms are aimed at the trailer, not the final product. I will still support Pixar, and I will still be seeing this in cinemas (if I have enough left over from Pirates and Kung Fu Panda 2).

But YES, I agree with you that Mater has too much screentime here. It’s not that I hate Mater, I think he’s the focus of the story here and I can’t wait to see his character arc in this movie (How he will experience leaving RS for the first time, the many cultures he will encounter, his first relationship with a female character since Doreen) But I would’ve loved to see more of Lightning, Finn, Holley or even the contestants themselves! Urgh… such wasted potential.

That was the best part of the trailer and the one with the most emotional kick. I talk more about it below.

I’ve posted more of my sentiments on the ‘What grinds your gears’ thread, but I’ve copied it here for your perusal:

Yes, yes, yes, I agree. I can understand some of the die-hard fans will be thrilled to see ‘a character a day’, but to me, it feels like Pixar is acting like a ‘Hermoine Granger’ and trying to ‘bump’ their thread to the top of a board. If they kept this to their website and Youtube channel, it would’ve been more professional.

Of course, maybe other sites just happen to pick up on the videos and plug it for them. But as I’ve said in the ‘Central Cars 2 discussion’ thread, Pixar should really focus on its key characters instead of dragging out every single minor two-bit character.

And the trailers… the latest one is a marked improvement, but I’m still disappointed they didn’t give it the James Bond or serious-spy-movie treatment. I expected a darker and edgier tone like the ‘Casino Royale’, ‘Quantum of Solace’ or ‘The World is not Enough’ trailers, but I’m still getting cheerful background music and Mater acting cute all over the place. The only good thing about the latest trailer was [spoil]Mater’s epiphany that maybe he wasn’t cut out to be a spy three-quarter way through the trailer when Finn explains that he thinks Mater’s ‘dumbness’ is an act.[/spoil] Even the teaser with ‘Trouble’ had a better spy theme. And unfortunately, no Giachinno music as far as I can tell.

Again, if Lasseter hadn’t made that promise that “this is not a spoof, this is a serious spy movie”, then maybe I wouldn’t have such high expectations. But the fact that he threw down the gauntlet and said “we are totally serious about this” means I’ll be expecting a dangerous world where not everyone survives, you can’t trust your allies, cloak-and-dagger antics, etc.

In the real world of covert espionage, henchmen aren’t stupid. They don’t fall into septic tanks (most of the time). The villain doesn’t play fair. I want to see that kind of stuff in Cars 2, but the trailers are not giving me confidence.

Please, Pixar, I’m praying you will prove me wrong and deliver a true spy movie, not some cheap Austin-Powers wannabe.

Even if I don’t completely agree, I can understand your position. But aren’t you being a little repetitive about this?

If I have gone over previous points and have offended you or any Cars fan, I apologize.

It’s just that I’m very disappointed with Pixar for a lot of things lately (the melodramatic ending of Toy Story 3, the defensiveness of some of its fans, the John Lasseter potshot at Rio, and the annoying Cars 2 campaign).

So if I have mentioned some of this before and it’s getting on any one’s nerves, I am truly and honestly sorry. I do try to find some good things to say about Pixar and Cars 2, which I make a point to mention in my posts.

And when Pixar does get things right, I will also rave and praise just as many times as well. So let’s hope that Pixar impresses us next month, shall we?

So, it’s not letting me post a comment on the actual video so may I discuss the finale trailer here? You may have already but I try to avoid this thread to be honest to avoid any potential spoilers. Yes, I know people use tags and stuff but that just makes it more tempting to read them. I can’t help myself. :stuck_out_tongue: Back to what I was saying, what do you guys think of the new trailer? I loved it! “You Might Think” by The Cars went along perfectly. Awww, the irony. Also, it was nice to finally see an actual glimpse of Sally in one of the trailers. I know she was in one of the other ones for like a split second but this time you could actually see her face.

I found it to be an enjoyable trailer.

[Spoiler alert]

My interest was piqued especially by Finn’s comment about Mater’s cover being his behavior. It will be interesting to see Mater deal with that. I imagine that he never thought he acted so idiotic, and it’s not like Radiator Spring’s residents seem to mind; they probably saw Mater as quirky and charming to some degree. McQueen also warmed up to his personality. I’ll admit that we’ve seen these sorts of conflicts before in film, but I look forward to seeing how Pixar will handle it.

Also, the CGI was splendid!

Finally get to see a close-up clip of Sally.

At least that makes it more clear that she is going to be there in the film (a very small scene maybe, but still there). I just wonder how much of a difference it would have made for the story if Paul Newman was still around to voice Doc. Maybe a lot? Maybe not? We’ll never really know, so we just have to accept it as is.

Pretty good trailer, but I have to agree with TDIT on the editing. At first I thought the slow motion was just my computer freezing up, and the transition from the emotional bit to the upbeat music was kind of awkward. But it’s definitely the best trailer yet in my opinion.

This is the same thing that happened with Toy Story 3; the first trailer was not so good…but the final trailer is stupendous. And people still don’t know that Pixar KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING. They have made eleven films that succeeded…why wouldn’t they succeed again, especially since the world of Cars is so amazing?

And I know Brave will do well and so will Monsters, Universtiy. Pixar DOES NOT FAIL. They take risks, and they still manage to hold a huge audience. All the other film companies don’t take risks as quirky as Pixar’s, and yet Pixar does better than they do. What was the highest grossing animated film last year? Shrek Forever After? No, it was Toy Story 3…Pixar’s success is guaranteed.

What I have to say about the new trailer.

I love that they show the cars playing a video game.

Concerning Francesco, I knew he would be rude to McQueen. Francesco is Number “1” and McQueen is number “95.”

Mater says the same joke in this trailer as he says in every trailer.

Also, “it’s the American spy!” Dr. Z seems to hate Mater.

ya ummm i don’t think Professor Z said its the american spy!

it didn’t sound like Thomas Kretsheman, or however you spell his name, at all. They’ve been putting lines in a lot with cars 2 trailers. they’ve used the no one can stop us line two times and different places and the “lightning mcqueen can not win the race”

but anywho it looks like its going to be fun.

also a new CARS 2 CHARACTER: CRABBY THE BOAT

I liked some of the footage of this trailer, but overall, it’s one of the worst Pixar trailers I remember.

Like TDIT, I think the editing was awful and the music they uses was HORRID.

I didn’t think it was horrible, but it doesn’t come close to the Bitter:Sweet song from the teaser. Definitely not. And I will agree that the cutting is too jumpy and all-over-the-place. But I still liked it.
