cars 2 was way to fast paced…went by quick…to quick that i needed to breeth…the reason why it went by quick, imo, is because everything is thrown at you (story parts) in such a fast way, that it left me slowly absorbing and a little confused at times what was happening. idk…this film is no pixar charm…i was dissapointed…
BUTTT it was entertaining and i enjoyed it. cars 2 does not deserve a 30 on rotten tomatoes…my gosh…but it also doesn’t deserve an 80 or above for that matter. it deserves somewhere to be over 60’s, to be fresh. saying its rotten isnt fair. the story line was quite original. but freshness is at least well deserved for this film.
PUT SPOILER TAGS.
The movie was great. Anyone who doesn’t even give the film a chance is really missing out. The film was incredible. I guess you can say there was like one or two things I could change, but other than that, I’m totally satisfied.
Even people who really disliked the first Cars said that Cars 2 was great and doesn’t deserve what Rotten Tomatoes is giving it.
So, I guess that I’m not so blind after all. It is in fact reviewed way too harshly.
Ok, well I just got back from the movie and…IT WAS AWESOME! Totally exceeded all my expectations and made me SO happy! That was seriously awesome and so unpredictable!
For those who liked Cars 2, we should go on RT and give it the rating it actually deserves.
It’s actually doing pretty well on fan ratings already: it’s in the 70s for that.
Anyways… [spoil]I totally called the canon pairing. FROM THE FIRST SCREENSHOTS. When do I get to read some fluffy Mater/Holly fic? I seriously want cute fic (or art) of them right now.[/spoil]
Cars 2 way exceeded my expectations. I saw the Rotten Tomatoes reviews and even though I had seen all the great material being released all along I admit that I was going in expecting Cars 2 to not be amazing but I was SO wrong. Pixar hasn’t ever let their viewers down and this movie is NO exception. It isn’t the most emotional of the Pixar films but it’s a good movie. It’s funny, has great action scenes, has a good story and a really good message about being loyal to friends. It’s a movie that I could watch with anyone. I found myself literally on the edge of my seat at climactic moments and celebrating when everything came to a happy ending. It’s a movie that any kid will love and adults will like too, and it is certainly not Pixar’s first flop. The animation was SPECTACULAR, too.
The movie ended up meaning quite a lot more to me than expected as well. I lost my dad last September right as I was starting college and getting ready to start my personal path to Pixar. One of the things we never agreed on was what movie to watch. I wanted Disney, Pixar, animation and funny movies, and he always wanted his spy movies. Sitting in the theater I saw a movie that was funny, full of action, suspenseful, and took me around the world to finish up in London, where my dad got his P.h.D. It’s about 9 months too late but Pixar made the film that my dad and I both would have loved and shared and I wish SO much we could watch it together. Cars 2 had that extra oomph for me because I brought it myself, and it’s putting Cars 2 in a very special place in my heart. It’s not the first Pixar movie to ever make me cry, Wall-E did that first, then Up, Toy Story 3 had me crying for a LONG time but Cars 2 is the first Pixar movie to leave me crying even after it ends. It really really really means a lot to me.
There’s probably no hope to get above 60 by now, but lets hope the academy at least gives it a nomination, eh?
You never know. I hope it does, but you know what, this puts the lesson Cars 2 taught us into play.
[spoil]Who cares what people think? Cars 2 is the bomb![/spoil]
[spoil]A BOMB!!! D:
…oh. you meant metaphorically.[/spoil]
there was a kiss between mcqueen and sally? (put it in spoilers)
[spoil]No, but he did tell her he loves her. “That’s why I love you, Sally.”[/spoil]
ooh man! I knew that he says “that’s why I love you sally” because I’ve seen a video behind the scenes with Owen Wilson recording that part
Meh, it was good enough for me!
Where is that video?
Agghh, so tempted to look at the spoilers but I can’t!
Here are my thoughts about the film:
[spoiler]I actually enjoyed it. It was a fun film, and it had quite a few moments that left me chuckling. I most certainly do not think it deserves to be reviewed in the low 30s percentage-wise. I mean, even Shark Tale had a higher score at 36% - and that film bored me to tears. Terrible movie.
However, I will say this…it most certainly is Pixar’s weakest film. And that’s why it’s being so critically panned. If reviewers were to mark this as a film in its own right, rather than comparing it to the usual Pixar standards, there is no doubt in my mind that Cars 2 would have enjoyed better scores.
As it is, there was something not quite up to par with Cars 2. The script and pacing were a bit off, for starters, and the film seemed to somehow have less of the Pixar “magic,” so to speak. Look, I do think people are wrong when they say the film was completely devoid of the “moral” and emotional connection with the characters so typical of the usual Pixar movie; but I admit that in this case it was drowned out somewhat as a result of the constantly fast-paced nature of the film. Of course, all Pixar movies have their action sequences - but in the case of Cars 2, it was non-stop, leaving the emotional connection somewhat on the wayside. Perhaps on the whole that’s not such a bad thing…to some extent, it’s probably what the writers intended. I think slowing it down occasionally though and leaving a bit more room for introspection and the moral “punch” would have gone a long way towards improving Cars 2.
Anyway, if I were to give this a score, I think I’d settle for somewhere around 7.5 out of 10. It provided an enjoyable couple of hours at the theatre, although it certainly wasn’t as…well, as “transcendent” as the best Pixar movies. It’s best to go into the theatres with the expectation of seeing a light comedy, rather than an instant classic.
For the record, here are the scores I would have given the other Pixar films (they change a bit, depending on how I’m feeling, but this is what they are for the most part):
Toy Story: 10 / 10
A Bug’s Life: 8.5 / 10
Toy Story 2: 10 / 10
Monsters Inc: 9 / 10
Finding Nemo: 9.5 / 10
The Incredibles: 10 / 10
Cars: 8 / 10
Ratatouille: 9.5 / 10
Wall-e: 10 / 10
Up: 10 / 10
Toy Story 3: 10 / 10[/spoiler]
It’s great to see many of us here have seen the film and enjoyed it. I sincerely hope that I will feel the same when I walk out of the theatre.
Here’s a post I wrote clarifying my last blog post. I also apologise if I have offended any Cars fans, please believe me, I want Pixar to succeed just as much as every one of you. It’s just that I am making an observation on the whole Rotten saga, and the various players’ reactions. Plus, I kinda had an overreactive meltdown yesterday. I am just as much a Cars fan as any one of you, I have said many times before that the first movie was the one that made me fall in love with the studio.
I stand by a few of my arguments, but I also realise that some of them are weak or even flawed. I acknowledge that, and I’m sorry.
Have a read through my explanatory blog post and see if you agree.
A clarification on my last post
Remember to keep an open mind! (And of course, I’ll try my best to do the same)
I watched Cars 2 last night and it was amazing! I may even like it better than the first film. It definitely did not deserve the reviews it got, I would give it a 70-80 on RT if I could. Give it a chance you will enjoy it, I loved the action and I actually liked how fast paced the movie was. I was never bored for a second. I thought I’d mention that even though there was not as much heart in Cars 2 there was a couple of emotional scenes that I liked. Some of the new characters were fantastic, especially Finn, Francesco and Professor Z. Personally I loved the movie and I would watch it again in theaters.
something that annyoed me wasthe tirbute to Doc hudson…
it was to short.
heres what i thought the tribute would be like…i always like to get creative and think of whats gonna happen…this was before i saw the movie.
its at night. the night before mcqueen leaves for the world grand prix. We see a statue of Doc next to stanley. mcqueen is sitting near Doc. talking to him, (out loud) wishing he was here to see him for the race. and then we enter mater and they both think back. and then sally comes out and comforts mcqueen by telling him, that Doc is watching over you and he’d be proud.
this would be later in the film
Mcqueen is racing, and all of a sudden he thinks back to what doc told him :just an empty cup. (we hear pauls voice say it, from the first one) and then we have mcqueen not bother with the race, and find Mater. (this would be after their fight
anywaysssssssss
