Central Monsters University Discussion

Well, they’re monsters, so they don’t age like us.

That defense said, I don’t like the new looks either. But I was already prepared for that. That was my first fear when I heard the word “prequel”

Well, that may be true that they age differently.

To me they look like 10th graders not College kids.

Exactly! That’s what I thought too.

I agree.

Me four.

They are just starting college, so the fact that they still look like high schoolers shouldn’t be a surprise. And they are monsters, so who is to say what monsters would look like in college?

Hm… I wonder what location that could be? Harry Hausen’s? Or maybe even Monsters Inc.?
I also don’t really like the new designs. I mean, Mike looks okay, but Sulley’s new design just isn’t doing it for me. I’m still trying to get over the fact that this is a prequel…

Maybe it’s the factory?

Do you think there’s any chance that they will also make a sequel years from now?

I hope they don’t ruin Randall!

Well I hope not, but there probably is a chance.

They mention a ‘younger’ Randall and all.

Apparently Sulley and Mike are 18. I guess technically it was mostly a fandom theory (though I agreed with it), but while Randall was given an age in some outside-the-movie canon data (24?) Sulley and Mike seem more like people in their late thirties to me (at their youngest) while their ages weren’t given at all all the same.

Which would make Randall what… 3 if that was true in this? XD.

Heh. Imagine Steve Bushemi trying to do three year old.

Somehow I severly doubt they’ll be doing that- guess they’re making them all the same ages? Eh, I guess unless they make Steve do a YOUNGER kid and they somehow run into him- very much doubt that though.

(Wasn’t it stated somewhere the prequel movie ENDS where the first movie begins? I guess some sort of epilogue in that sense).

Still, does that make Sulley and Mike 24/25 in the movie? Weird, really weird to me. I’ve always thought of them as older.

Or maybe they’ll make Randall in HIS late 30s or whatever if they do a big enough time skip for an epilogue to be where the first movie begins. I don’t know, I CANNOT see it either way though- Randall seems like a 20s guy, Mike seems like he’s a midlife crisis and Sulley just seems… older than in his 20s to me. It’ll be hard getting my head around that somehow.

I guess this also blows up a lot of the semi-canon stuff they had before though- pretty much everything maybe connected with the characters of the movie anyway, though I guess the only important canon they have to fit is the movie in the end (and besides, most of that semi canon stuff can’t exist at ALL in the same universe as each other if they’re all gathered up and all stamped ‘canon’, it’s kind of rediculous really, how badly they seem to keep track of what’s already out there riding the coat-tails of the movie. Ther is no sense of consistency or logical way they can be put together in the same space). Unless the two of them aren’t studying scaring in Mikes and Sulleys case, in this universe Randall might not get an opportunity to train Sulley at all and be a top scarer for a little while as he did once in some of the extra stuff from what I remember for instance. But once again- not in the first movie, I guess it’s fair game.

I still say having a degree in scaring is rediculous, especially since we SAW training in the movie. And scaring is simply not a job which would require a degree. As important as it is in their world, it’s something you’d just have to be physically capable of as well as well trained for (and have the desire for). Just not something a degree requires at all and to have one is just silly. I mean I can imagine some sort of certificate after training and all but beyond that…

In any case, I’m not all that excited myself yet, which is kind of sad given how stupid I go over the first movie, younger!Sulley looks kind of adorable though to me though and I remember seeing an afro!sulley in the concept art which made me giggle as well.

First off, the easy stuff…

Waternoose. Yes, actor dead, may he rest, but they can get someone to stand in. However…he doesn’t necessarily need to BE there either. A commercial or some inspirational video tape given at the start of a class or something would be good enough. Maybe a current situation has him outside of physically being there.

New views for Sullivan and Wazowski?
Lets see…Sullivan looks…eehh…he looks raggedy. Thinner, but raggedy. There’s just…looks too…toonish. I mean looks like something they’d use for those tv spots of Car Toons, great animation, but not offering movie snuff.
Wazowski? He looks a bit…better. The braces is an interesting addition. prods head But doesn’t he also have eye problems considering he needs a contact lens a few years later? Shouldn’t it be more of a huge monical of some sort than braces? Still, it’s an ok choice.

I mean technically…lets see…either…2-4 years…a year or so for training…2-3 years working in the business. Looking at…5-8 or so years between the start of college and the first film. Comparing between the forms…I…dunno.
Sullivan definitely put on weight…which is kinda weird considering how much he works out, unless that’s all muscle under that fur. I see Sullivan as a dedicate now…probably fooled around more in High School before he got his act together and wanted to actually pursue a career. He seems…laid back more than dedicated.
Wazowski…well what can I say, the guy hardly changes. Braces would make him the target of classic bullying. shakes head Oh boy…if Celia is going to be in this, she’s going to turn out to be the sympathetic person instead of “Ms. Popular”. But anyways, back to Wazowski. Seems he’s not going to enjoy his college life for some reason or another, but might just put on a face and bar through it (probably from the insistence of his parents).

tapping lip Speaking of parents…
Sullivan seems to be the walker type rather than car driving. I would suspect his parents drop him off at college, so we’d see them I’d think. I imagine his mother as the “I know your grown up but I’ll miss you” type. While “dear old dad” is proud of him from cleaning up his act and following in his footsteps as a scarer. I actually have a thought to who Sullivan’s father is, but I’m unsure if I’ll release that.
Wazowski? Lets see…definitely wants a car…unsure if he’d actually have one at that point. I imagine his mother as the doting type, would do anything for him. His father would probably be the opposite, and I picture him as a lawyer for some reason. Needless to say who Wazowski likes best. If he had a car, doubt it would be a new and shiny one. Heh…imagine the look on college-bound faces when Wazowski pulls up in a second-hand job that sounds off a gun-shot like Uncle Buck’s beat up…whatever it is heh heh.

Oh yes the familiar place. Harry Hausen’s is doubtful. Unless their parents have connections (Sullivan’s MIGHT…), Sullivan and Wazowski are not going there. You need advanced reservations and I would think the place is pretty expensive. Randall MIGHT know somebody there…but regardless I doubt it.
Monsters Inc.? Yes that’s possible. A tour or field trip sort of thing. Plausible.
Well…aside from that and the apartment building Sullivan and Wazowski get later on…there’s not really any other place I can think of at the moment.

Now, to my specialty. My dear friend Randall…
I have doubts they’d treat him respectfully. I mean already they aren’t if they are putting them all in the same age group. I mean seems more like “M.I. in College” rather than a proper prequel.
Technically it’s been said Randall is 25 of the film. Sullivan and Wazowski have claimed to be much older. In that regard, amid other facts, Randall got into Monsters Inc. earlier than the two, climbed the ladder fast, and earned a respectable position as Top Scarer before they arrived.
Mental’s got a good point, about her interpretations of seeing how Sullivan, Wazowski, and Randall are age-wise.

As for the film…if they make Randall the bully type, I’m asking for my money back. It’s just too…lazy. If I said before…I’ll say it again. 80% of bullies are cheaters, natural fact. I’ve seen it done in the classroom so many times it isn’t funny. I’ve seen cheaters get rewards at graduation, probably satisfied they got away with so much. Randall? Ain’t a cheater. Heck he gets so defensive when somebody ACCUSES him of such a thing that he loses his facade of control.
And who does he “hang around with” in the original film? Well…nobody. What? Fungus? Oooh man, you mean the guy who would give Randall a heart attack before he’s thirty (or maybe in a bathroom wink wink)?
Fungus is not a bully’s friend. Randall’s smart enough not to need a “I’ll pound you if you don’t do my homework” ragdoll like Fungus.
And he’s got no reason to go on Sullivan or Wazowski (as of the film, he had thought they were cheating despite his efforts, combined with his frustration of the extractor), unless THEY provoke it.

Oh yes…1997…VERY good. You’ve probably described what’s going to happen. shrugs To some people such a happening would be consider “classic” rather than “cliche”…or “overused”…or “uncreative”. It’s an easy way out, and at the very least I doubt it wasn’t considered in that first set of meetings for the plot.

shakes head Guess we’ll see when more starts to be released.

You mean you hope there’s not a sequel or you hope they don’t ruin Randall?

I wonder if we see the Abominable Snowman again.

I hope so! He’s awesome!

I would like to see him again as well. It would be hard to imagine them trying to put him in the film.

That’s a great idea! Perhaps we’ll see why he was banished.

Besides, he’s voiced by John Ratzenburg, so he’ll have to be in it away.

@Amy43 I hope they don’t ruin Randall or make a sequel. By there’s a chance I meant making a sequel.

Maybe he is in a video or something. A teacher shows a video what happens if you make to many mistakes or a big one and what happen’s if you get banned. It shows a video of him in the Himilayas.
