So, I was watching the 80s horror film Child’s play and I noticed something. A horror film about a toy coming to life and the toy’s owner was named Andy. What’s the name of the kid in Toy Story?
Do you think someone in Pixar was making an obscure reference?
Could be! Maybe Pixar settled on the name Andy as sort of an homage. Lee Unkrich is a huge fan of horror films, but I’m not sure if he had enough staus/power during the developement of the first film to have such influence.
I remember reading somewhere (I think that it was in my The Pixar Story book) that Andy was named after some guy who worked at Pixar. I don’t know why they chose him, but it said that he didn’t find out for a long time; he always thought that it was named after Andrew Stanton or something.
I don’t know, it was something like that. I haven’t read that book in a while. But that’s an awfully coincidental reference there, Dragonrider1227! Maybe the Pixar team was inspired in some way!
EDIT:
I meant The Pixar Touch, by David Price. But I think you guys knew what I meant.
Hmm, that does sound like quite the coincidence, Dragonrider…It could quite possibly be an homage to Child’s Play. But at the same time, what yo is saying is definitely ringing a bell. I’m sure someone else on here will be able to confirm or deny this either way.
yea… i remembered reading tat andy is named after someone in pixar… but i also remembered i re-watched the child’s play a few years ago, chucky’s owner’s also andy… at tat time, i thought toy story might hv took it as a reference
I remember reading that it was Andy Luckey, (son of Bud Luckey, an animator at Pixar) who Andy’s name came from and he was surprised later on when he found out the character was named after him, and not Andrew Stanton. So that clears that discussion up.
Personally, I think it’s both.
I thought this thread was going to be about the way Big Baby walked or something like that, but the boy being named Andy in Child’s Play was something I always found amusing .
