I was wondering, what would a collectible toy be like? Like the ones that are meant to be kept in their boxes and stuff, or come with a display stand that are usually aimed at adults. Would they be bitter from being set out on the shelves all their lives and not being played with, or would they be the opposite of normal toys and get mad when they’re being played with rather than be in mint condition on display? Or, would they all be like Buzz and think they’re real?
I think if they are designed to be collectables they would love to be stood up on a shelf. The only way I can see said collectables being bitter is if they had no company and they were alone on the shelf with no other person/toy that understands them but seeing as though collectable toys usually have other toys that are needed to complete the set this wouldn’t be a problem. However toys that are designed to be toys would hate never being played with and never being played with is a fear all toys have. I collect Toy Story toys but I still press the buttons and use their functions as toys.
Isn’t that the entire characterization of the Prospector? I know what you mean when something isn’t necessarily meant to be played with, but a “collectible” is a pretty ambiguous description. Anything with time can be considered a collectible.
Prospector was a toy to begin with, however, he basically became a collectible over time. He became so unsympathetic towards Woody because he was never played with. So in essence, yeah, they’d like to stay mint and keep their value high, as that’s what they live for. Though, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind becoming a plaything if they don’t break easily.
I like the idea of them all thinking they’re the actual character and not a toy. And if they never get played with, it’d make sense. There are those really expensive 12" figures of characters like Iron Man, Batman and Darth Vader, so them all thinking they’re the actual characters would be cool.
I wondered the same thing. I pictured collectibles like the stuff you see from companies like Hot Toys, McFarlene toys, or Sideshow actually having an ego or looking down at the toys you play with. Being all “I’m not a TOY! I am a COLLECTIBLE! I have more accesories than I can carry and have four seperate sets of hands.”
Although, I also thought maybe some of them put on a snob show to hide the fact that they secretly long to be played with
I’ve wonderd this too! This topic makes me feel bad. I have three Native American dolls that are collectors items and come with stands. When I redid my room before graduation, I had no room for them so they’re in boxes under my bed. It makes me sad thinking of them under there!
