CountDOWN to UP

Coming from someone who has tried it, Bribing friends to go and see a Pixar movie really does work. Sell it to them in terms of Toy Story! And tell them that there is nothing else better to do, and it’s the only time you’ll ask them to do something like this (just a little lie, try the same thing again next year  )

It really works, i managed to go and see ratatouille with my friends when they were all set on seeing something else. All i had to do was pay for their tickets. In theory, the idea needs a few retouches.

hehehe rubs hands together evily :smiling_imp: I shall try that ! XD

Ooohhh, awesome! My local Greater Union is usually the one that has the advance screenings (without revealing exactly where I live, I can tell you that my Greater Union is a “major” one), so I’m set.

I’ll be keeping an eye out too. :sunglasses:

The characters:
Carl: Now 79 years old, Carl is grumpy and old. Most seem to take him for granted, but behind his bitter attitude is a light, energetic, but shy heart. He was married to Ellie; Carl worries that he never fulfilled what he promised to Ellie, which sets him off on his adventure. He was also a balloon man when he was young.

Ellie: Carl’s wife. She died a few years before the bulk of the story takes place. Carl had promised to her that they would together have an adventure and travel to Paradise Falls, where their childhood hero once explored. She held on to her dream her whole life, but unfortunately she never got her wish. Alongside Carl, Ellie was a zookeeper when she was young.

Charles Muntz: A great adventurer; he was most known for exploring the territory of Paradise Falls. With his blimp, “The Spirit of Adventure”, he encountered mysterious creatures and plants. Carl and Ellie were huge fans of Muntz, which is what caused them to meet. Muntz went missing many years back.

Russell: An 8 year old Wilderness Explorer in tribe 54, Sweat lodge 12. He needs to get his final badge, Assisting the Elderly, to become a senior wilderness explorer. Carl brushes him off, but Russell somehow gets on the house when it takes off, and is now forced to test his skills in the wilderness.

Dug: An outcast from the pack of dogs. Dug has a collar which allows him to speak; though, his thoughts are generally simple-minded. Still. Dug is lovable and cute, and helps Carl and Russell on their adventure. He’s easily distracted by squirrels.

Kevin: A silent, tall, rainbow-colored bird; Russell takes it for a snipe. Kevin (though he’s actually a she, unknown to Russell when he named her) is very wacky and erratic in her movement. She’s unpredictable, and often stays in hiding. She loves chocolate.

Houstonians the screening is confirmed, I will post a link to the invite on wednesday.

Why?

Its on my profile btw.

Bryko614 - Nice idea! I’m already pumped for Up, but this just adds to the excitement.

Interesting information on Charles Muntz, by the way. I’m starting to see how the story is pieced together now…

Only forty-eight days. Just forty-eight days…

See you there Houstonians!

I am pumped! Im looking up for up!

Bryko614 You are actually killing my soul… I love the countdown…

Why can’t anyone do Simutanous releases and not a 6 month wait to Torture us poor unfortunate souls…

Although Considering UK release is Oct 16th… Go see it opening weekend… with GF…

Birthday 10 days later… Instead of going to get Wasted with Uni flatmates… Drag them (They already know and surprisingly have agreed) to see the movie as a “Birthday Treat”…

Then Buy copy on DVD for GF for Valentines (That’s when it will be released trust me I know these things… I’ve used R&D looking at UK Cinema and Home release and actual general agreements with Cinemas and Distributors its a 16 week wait… and I’m pretty used to guesstimating these things)… Demand a copy for Valentines (Blu Ray of course  )

Woldbe nice if Disneystore created some Pin Badges t celebrate the release… Might make nice addition to my Already Expanding Pin Badges…

A spoiler-free (I think) report:

If you don’t want to read it, it’s basically a rave. 9/10, alongside with TI and TS. No Partly Cloudy. Just one little bit I find interesting (and funny):

I don’t think he’s serious. It can’t be completed this soon.

I saw Lee’s Twitter. Really funny. The film probably isn’t complete, but he probably just showed his kids the story reels.

I can’t wait for UP!

god im so excited about tomorrows screening, ill be sure to give yall my impressions

Ok, but no spoilers.

UP for Grabs: tickets to Austin Texas screening this Saturday

I’m surprised no one here picked this UP yet… though actually I found it by accident while searching for something. It appears there will be a special screening of UP this Saturday (April 18th) in Austin Texas being sponsored by the Ain’t It Cool News people. The screening will be in 2D, and of course it’s going to be pretty much the luck of the draw who gets invited.

EDIT: Wow… literally just moments after posting this here, the page was updated and now has the list of those chosen already (sorry, I only just saw it). Though he mentions there might be some seats available for standby, so if you’re in the Austin area and want to give it a try…

aintitcool.com/node/40768

It seems they also had the unofficial premiere of the new Star Trek film last week – two Michael Giacchino-scored films in a row…

Checking the posts in this thread, I noticed a link to the first public advance screening, which was held in Minneapolis on April 10th. It’s interesting to point out, we were still recording small fixes to the film’s score just three days before that (on the 7th)… I wonder if they were fast enough to apply the changes and do a final mix, or if it was an older version that was screened (according to the write-up, the “print” arrived on a hard drive rather than film stock, so I suppose it could’ve been possible). I wonder if they’ll do a wide-release “week before” sneak like they did for Ratatouille (but not for Wall-E, if I remember right).

Hopefully the cinemas with 3D IMAX screens will use them for UP, at least initially (MvA is being shown in 3D IMAX here now).

Also, I just checked out Pixar’s Projection page (meant for projectionists, but always interesting to look at: projection.pixar.com/). It hasn’t been UPdated yet, but should be soon…

That’s cool! And in Texas, no less. Yeah, how neat it would have been to have watched the alternate music release on April 18. That would have been special. I hope there are other advance screenings. Whether it will only a few days before the release, or a wide-scale, every state preview like with Ratatouille, we’ll have to see.

Thanks for the reminder of that projectionists page. It should be updated soon to tell us the running time, and to also confirm that the Toy Story 3 trailer is not going to be shown in front of Up, but the Princess and the Frog trailer instead. D= A couple of years ago there was a contest for projectionists to win a trip to Pixar Animation Studios, and last year you filled out a form and you got a cap, and some cards.

I hope I’m not being mean about this, or totally embarrassing myself, but isn’t the countdown off? shouldn’t it be 41 days today instead of 42? that would make the film come out on a Saturday because the day it comes out has to be divided by 7

Just time for a quick post tonight, but wanted to mention that at the Austin Texas screening today, it was advertised that Pete Docter was supposed to be there, and they were also supposed to show Partly Cloudy as well (which would mean by this point they’ve had time to mix the music for both Partly Cloudy and the final fixes for Up, which were recorded on the same day). It would also make the Austin screening the first public showing of Partly Cloudy, wouldn’t it? Or was it shown elsewhere publically already?

Just curious… was anyone here able to attend the Austin screening?

Here’s a short article and picture from Partly Cloudy (minor spoilers that tell just the basic outline of the plot) at AICN’s website:
aintitcool.com/node/40793
but it was written yesterday (Friday) before the screening.
I can’t seem to find anything such as reviews or reaction after the screening. Maybe it’s still too early.

EDIT: just found this. It’s Harry’s writeup on UP and tonight’s screening.
Very positive review (a few minor/general spoilers, nothing too major)
aintitcool.com/node/40805
At the end he writes that he’ll write up a separate report on Partly Cloudy later tonight.
