the green flowers look lighter, less stripes on the body and hat, mouth is smaller and the tears look a little better too and the arms are in the correct position in regards the stripes, the pink stripe on the collar will most likely vary slightly on each model anyway so not an issue for me. Hell…I thought counting how many stripes were present was a bit much anyway. haha The colors will look different to us anyhow depending on our monitor/tv color settings.
Roly Clown only exists as a computer model. Computer models aren’t governed by physics and other boring stuff that the real world has to contend with so I think it looks great. Get it laquered up and we’ll get our orders in
I noticed that they must have done a recarve on their own, as the body looks fuller and collar was noticeably smaller, so everything is fixed except the colors which are as good as possible…getting it lacquered then taking orders…(although if you wanna pay now, thats cool too)
(I would like to think everyone would save themselves a couple dollars this time, I think I’ve proven myself lol)
This is assuming I get at least 20 orders, but I think i’ll hit that target easily, and if for some reason I’m a few short, I’ll buy a few for eBay
Edit: Also as an interesting side point, I think this clown is a lot cheaper than the spiritmama one, and difference in quality speaks for itself. I understand that both of my projects were expensive…but they could always be worse
Never say never, but I have nothing upcoming, I’ve been planning the clown for months. Like I said, I have access to a CNC machine, and will always look for opportunities for new characters.
Hopefully I’ll be able to pay for the Clown sometime in March but you can put me down as a definite order after how good the Troikas look I can’t pass this up.
Looks great, but I still have a few nitpicks:
-The mouth is still wrong, it should be a consistent arch and not curve up at all in the middle.
-The teardrops seem to go down even further than before, they definitely need to be up higher.
(Look at these pictures: hq55.com/disney/toy1/toystory-di … om-747.jpg)
Also, was the number of stripes fixed? I can’t tell based on the two shot alone.
All the stripes are fixed. It’s already being lacquered, a shiny version of that is what I’m going with. It was recarved and repainted and looks great, it’s never going to look perfect. If its below anyone’s standards, no one is forced to buy. I think it looks closer to movie than the troikas do, yet those getting nothing but praise…maybe they raised the bar a bit too high
It’s too late, sorry, I’m not sure how you could look at that picture and think “bummer,” but to each his own. You’re certainly entitled to your opinion. But everyone I ask thinks it looks amazing, and you could nitpick it 99 times and version 100 still won’t be perfect. The clowns expression constantly changes throughout the brief scenes he’s in. They never have a shot of him in “toy mode”. You could keep looking at different pictures forever and you would always find something wrong
Edit: I do agree with Nachoz on the mouth, would be cool to see that improved but but if its locked its locked.
It might be… I think we might be more critical about getting this one right is because all the focus is on one character with one face, as apposed to 5 different, more detailed toys grabbing your attention, you know? If you had only done a single troika I’d imagine it would be more heavily scrutinized.
Again though, it definitely meets my standards, would buy it if I could.
If you notice the shape of the mouth, it doesn’t do the extra curve very extreme, looking at it now, the mouth looks like a sticker, it’s most likely shaped like that so the mouth is perfectly centered around the nose, and the angle on both side seem to be making a nose “groove,” Not sure I’d oppose this “error” much anyways, to ensure the mouths are perfectly centered on all of them
