I agree with each of those adjustments…I’d have been delighted with the mouth, collar and stripes as they were, but might as well be as perfect as possible. I’m sure the manufacturers can live with those adjustments knowing how much THEY made from your Troika project. Can’t wait to get one
And yes…you did come across a bit cranky. haha. but we all have those moments especially after 12 hour shifts. The request for a video to hear the jingle would have cranked me up aswell.
I think what you’ve done for us anyway is amazing, Sink. I personally do not care in the slightest about the number of stripes or the size of the ball on his hat. I think he looks amazing and the closest I was ever going to get to a movie accurate clown. Besides everyone toy I have on the room has its inaccuracies. Bo Peeps too small, Jessie’s too fat, Mr potato heads got legs and eyes are together. What you do for us is way more than expected,I mean you are getting a toy company to make replicas that wouldve never been made in a million years!!!
I was just as excited as you to get to see the prototype, so for that, I thank you. I’m sure when all the members eventually get there’s, Im sure they will be awed just simply for having a replica of Roly Poly in their hands.
For me, personally, the list you made on the previous page, telling us what you’ll change about him was fine.
I know it isn’t perfect, but still i think it looks great! The head doesn’t look quite right to me for some reason. My biggest problem is the price though.I’ll have to think about it for a while before i make a descision!
This is an amazing project and from now on lets just see what Slink does and stop making criticism, he is already going to fix the major things and after this project Slink will have really brightened up my collection with the clown and the troikas that he did a magnificent job on so lets just trust him, everyone is busy and were so lucky that Slink is taking time out of his schedule a making this stuff happen, with out him most of us wouldn’t have a either of these characters. And as he said he doesn’t need us to buy one he gets one either way. Also about the whole profit thing if he wanted to he could sell these guys for over 200 dollars on eBay, and then many of us couldn’t afford one. So I can’t wait to buy one of these guys once the final picture is in, great job Slink
I want to say, I wasn’t trying to stop any constructive criticism. I want the clown to look as good as possible as well. It’s just been a long week, and I’ve been hoping to see to prototype, every day after being at work with 12 hours with no ability to check my email…(my phone sucks). I took one look at details like the hair and was like “wow, they did a fantastic job”. A couple posts just killed my enthusiasm and I guess thats what made me a tad cranky. I do think version two will be a lot better, I was just hoping to go with version 1. It’s ridiculous how accomodating the company has been.
They did three troikas prototypes, despite that, gave me a discount on the clown prototype, and is still selling me the troikas at the discounted rate so everyone who hasn’t got the can still get them at relatively the same price. I feel kinda bad sending them a list of 6 or 7 things that are “wrong” with their amazing creation. And I especially don’t want them to have to carve another one, as that costs them money and resources that they already gave me discounted price on. And I mean, they make the clown on a lathe, I don’t know if anyone has used a lathe before, but if you have, you’d appreciate how amazingly close the product is to the movie, it’s not an easy tool to use. and looking at the movie stills, you can barely notice it unless you are staring at the two pictures side by side.
And small stuff like the jingle, I just don’t understand. Do you think if you bought this character at the disney store, it would be as close in accuracy as this company tries to make it for us? As I said before, not one single TSC character is perfect, and Woody has JIm hanks voice instead of Tom Hanks. If I try to make it look like it has to be perfect down to the last detail, I kind of look like a crazy person, and who knows if they’ll keep being as accomodating as they currently are?
All that together, kind of boiled over into frustration yesterday and I apologize. Did not mean to bash anyone personally, and I thank everyone who has helped support the project
I have no complaints at all the Prototype looks fine to me and if you leave it as is I would still order one… I mean we are never going to get better then this if it wasn’t for you taking your time and hard earned money we would never have gotten Troikas, So here’s to Troikas which look amazing the Clown and many more projects.
I get where your coming from Slink, its hard to know where to draw the line so you don’t come off sounding a difficult client that will never be happy. But as with any professional work its probably unrealistic to expect to get it right in one go no matter how simple of a project it might seem. Its certainly fine as is, but when the possibility of a revision is dangled in front of us like a carrot, the pickier fans will usually chime in with something.
There’s nothing too crippling about it right now in my opinion. And counting the number of stripes when there are as many as there are does seem a bit extreme even to me. Maybe if you were the one making these yourself, but I’d probably be too embarrassed to mention that to another company.
I understand all that…like I said, i was overtired and let it get under my skin…mainly because it killed the first time I was enthusiastic all week, lol…not a big deal
Sorry, Slink. I saw people giving feedback to make it the best it could be and thought I would chime in as well. I was in a hurry to leave for a meeting so maybe I was a bit harsh. It is true that the TSC is not perfect, but this is your opportunity to get close on Roly Clown Keep in mind you’re not talking to average Toys R Us shoppers on this forum…we’re here because we’re fanatics And like I said in the original post, happy to see this one progress.
Just throwing it out there, if you are confident that the final prototype will be good for you and want to go ahead and pay and send me your address, that will be fine, some people have chosen that route and it will be easier to compile the list of addresses
If you want to wait, thats fine too, but I’m sure that certain people are already sure they want it, and there is no need to wait
Slink have you ever thought of doing a Snake? I mean all the pieces could be made of wood painted and then lacquered It seems like it would be simple to make I mean green and then purple with a scale design the only hard part would be the head… The head could be left blank and then google eyes could be attached.
I already have an acceptable snake, but I asked about Mr. Spell and it was beyond their scope. I could inquire about it, but my gut tells me no…the company already made nesting eggs and chime dolls…their scope doesnt really go far beyond that…we’re just lucky they have two things approximate to toy story characters
^^ I think that it looks great, plus I think that it would be asking a lot now for the company to do another prototype. The first prototype looked close enough, if I had to pick out anything that was bothering it would’ve been the colors of his clovers and the width of his arm, which you’ve both fixed.
So for me, Prototype 2. is perfect, besides it will look that much better when its lacquered
