Well it looks great, he’s the accurate size, and he jingles. To me he’s a treasure. After all, Thinkways Toy Story Collection line had its list of inaccuracies, and on this I can only spot one. So he’s a movie accurate Toy Story replica to me I love him as he is, and I don’t even own him yet!!! Haha
Eyes can’t happen, I agree about the shade of green…I think the neck brace, ball, and mouth are fine, but I’ll definately take it into consideration and go back and look at it
After looking at it, I’m going ask them to change the arms and the color of the clovers. The eyes cannot be 3-D, and the collar and ball on the hat would require them to carve out something again. This would take a ton of time, and I think it’s close enough as is…troikas weren’t PERFECT… TSC Woody isn’t PERFECT, and for me, and I think pretty much everyone else, this is a pretty fantastic item.
EDIT:
Also, I disagree about the mouth, I think its about right, its about that big in one the scenes I have captured…he changes his smile a lot in the small amount of screen time he gets
Couldn’t hurt to mention the hands could it? Doesn’t seem like a hard fix.
Another thing I noticed, the colors could be more accurate. Shouldn’t that blue be more of a teal, and those flower buttons be more of a neon green? It almost matches RC here. (I realize colors can be tricky though)
That’s the only pic I have on hand, maybe it looks different in different shots, I don’t have the movie right in front of me.
I think after the Troikas turning out a bit darker than expected I would keep my eye on some of the darker shades to make sure they don’t go too dark if possible. The color pallet for this toy seems like its meant to be kept pastel.
I probably won’t be able to buy this one though, so take anything I say with a grain of salt.
Edit: I think I agree about the tear drop size too.
Oh, and other thing, is the overal shape locked down yet? because I just noticed the eyes are flush with the rest of the head. The one in the movie pops out a bit. I would think doing that might even make the painting easier for them, no? If its already locked down (or it just doesn’t bother anyone) than nevermind that.
I love it so much and agree with the edits Slink came up with but for some reason the tear drops seem a little big, not a major point just thought I’d throw it out there since you have decided to make a few edits yourself.
Can’t wait to get my hands on the only accurate Roly Poly Clown ever made
Eyes are minor and I understand not being able to be 3D.
I also agree that the neck really should be a bit smaller, though again if the cost would be too high I’d accept the neck as-is.
The teardrops below the eyes should be just a tiny bit smaller and not go down as far.
Arms should be moved (minor but easy fix) and the colors definitely need to be changed around a bit.
Other than that, though, fantastic job, and I can’t wait for the final product
There is one extra stripe, when I look at it…I don’t have an issue with that
Not sure about the hat either, either way not a huge issue for me
I’m not going to get a video…it’s impressive that its roly poly and makes any sound, if the sound is enough to cancel your purchase, I would suggest thats a tad extreme…TSC has jim hanks voice you know
Overall the response is a tad more critical than I expected. I understand that minor adjustments need to be made. And if your are staring at a picture (from a screenshot) of the movie (because hes in the background for about 3 mins of movie), then yes, you can indeed notice some minor things. But if you just look at it, I think it’s pretty good, and amazing compared to what the average person could dream of making. Once again, I don’t disagree with minor adjustments, but man, this has been a harsh response considering the first troikas needed so much more work
I wouldn’t take it too personally Slink, I’m sure their criticism is with good intentions. We’re all glad that you’ve taken it upon yourself to start with this new project. We’re as excited as you, and we trust your top-notch quality in these replicas.
Ah, yes, now that I look closely, he’s right… There should be a total of 10 strips. I think this should be fixed, hopefully it won’t be too difficult. I’d also like to see a video of him rolling/jingling. You said you haven’t picked out a jingle yet, right? Maybe we could help decide on one.
And about us being too critical… Everything we’re saying is just constructive criticism for the purpose of making the best replica we can. Our goal obviously isn’t to insult you or the project. We just want to make sure that the clown is as accurate as possible and, frankly, that we’re getting our money’s worth. We’re very appreciative of what you’re doing for us collectors, even when you are making a profit in the process. Nothing we say should be taken personally, and is all good-willed in attempt to make this project as big of a success as the Troikas.
I understand it’s trying to be constructive, and I appreciate that. I also understand you wanting “your moneys worth.” However, I’m absolutely not making money on the clown. For the troikas, I charged more (to try to get back the $200 prototype fee), and for a long time, thought I was going to lose over $100. However, a sudden influx of orders and a few ridiculous bidding wars on eBay, and yes I did turn profit. I used one of the ridiculous eBay orders to pay for the clown prototype and did not pass on the additional cost to anyone. The clown is simply ridiculously expensive for me to get.
I’m not in this to make money, it was never about that, and quite frankly my clown is purchased, so I’m happy if not a single person wanted a clown. It would save me a lot of unnecessary hassle. However, I like the board, the people on it, and want to share my customs with those who want them…the reason I want to try to get 20 people, is that it will save money for you guys, its no skin off my nose if the order is less than 10 (although then theyd be about $100 each). I looked at the number i needed to sell to make a reasonable price for everyone.
So when I post a picture, and a couple posts have just complaints and nothing positive, its a little off putting (although I admit, I’m overtired from a 60+ hour work week, and probably a touch cranky, and I was pretty excited when i first got home and saw the pics).
Also, the chime is what it is, the jingle will be the only sound they have (I don’t get to choose a sound, I don’t know where that came from) and I’d feel a little silly asking the company for a video and sound verification (which I don’t think they would provide anyway), especially since they gave me a break on the prototype fee, and I still are having them make a large amount of relatively minor complaints, when overall it looks fantastic
Didn’t mean for it to come off mean, if i did, i apologize
The innacuracies mentionned by the forum members are maybe right but for me i take a look at the object in the globality and it’s really brillant…
We have the possibility to have a Piece of collection that is really difficult to “home made” by members and if somebody try to do it, it will be so far away from the final result that you propose to us.
I just want to thank you for the incredible work you did on this project, and the money you spend on it.
I just want to say that EVERY toy story collection item from Thinkway has many innacuracies and your clown toy is almost perfect compared to a Mr Potato head with legs and joined eyes or lots’o not to scale…
Thanks again and PM me when you need the money to order the factory.
