It’s just that I had a cracking customer whilst at work today (I work in good ol’ McD’s). I work at the drive-in, and this bloke comes round asking for 2 snack wraps. I ask him whether he would like chicken and bacon, or chicken and onion, and he goes “suprise me”. I asked him again, he shrugs his shoulders, so I put one of each on the order, stating this quite clearly. 5 minutes later, the man comes round again to have a rant at me because he doesn’t like onion. What, do you think I can read your mind or something?
Another (old) man comes round with an order that cost £15 or roundabouts. Bear in mind we have timers, so if we don’t serve within 30 seconds it looks bad on the restruant, and it’s lunchtime so there’s loads of customers queuing. He sits there for about 2 minutes, couting 20p coins in his hand and then slamming it down into my hand when he’s about a yard away from the window. When he finally leaves, the chavvy customers behind him start moaning because they had to wait for so long
Oh, and I despise it when people count all of their coins out-when I can visibly see a note in their hand. Or when they give me a £20 note for a 99p McFlurry.
I probably sound like an awful drive-in lady now! But does anybody work in retail/restruant/whatever, where you have to confront iffy customers? Any other amusing stories?
Haha, yes! I have a million other stories, including a man who tried to pay in American Dollars, and a man who decided he was going to relive himself on the wall next to the CCTV camera, so we were holding back hysterics whilst we were taking orders
I think i’m one of these disgruntled customers. I hate it when it takes so long for me to get the right change out, i’m not really good with handling money with literally my own hands.
Darn, I was hoping to come in here to get another spammer kill.
Seriously though, working at Indigo, I have to agree. Some customers can really be a pain.
I remember the other day a man asked me why he couldn’t go on the internet on the computers that are used for browsing books in store. When I told him that you can’t access the internet, he called me a terrible employee and stormed off.
Haha, those are good stories! I love all the British words you use.
Well, I work at a winery as a barback. I get to meet people from all over the world, so that’s always interesting. I don’t have any hilarious stories yet though, because I just started working.
I hope more people post their work related stories on this thread!
Speaking of customers, I hate the saying that “customers are alway right.” Because even though sometimes they can be jerks, they must alway have it their way.
For me, I try to be polite to the people giving me service. But lets say I’m at a mall, I’m one of those customers who the 3 “gets” as quickly as possible: get in, get it, and get out.
But I still have the urge to tell someone off for acting too “jerky” to an employee. I actually did that once, last week, but they didn’t take me seriously cause im only 13.
^^ Hmm, I’d agree that some employees can be rude. I hate it when some of my colleagues flirt with the customers and it backfires spectaculary.
But I think some customers are ruder! Just coz we serve the food and take the money, doesn’t mean we can go out on a whim for every request! We don’t make the rules, nor the prices!
Oh my. I could tell many stories from my years at retail about the people who got mad because we were out of something, or the people who got mad because I couldnt take something back, or the people who got mad because I couldnt give back a full refund, or the people who got mad because the lines were too long or slow. I will say though, the number of people who get mad differs depending on what type of store you’re in
mmmm…That’s a tough one! Here’s one of the more amusing ones. Once someone wanted to return a used coffee pot. They had no receipt, which I needed in order to return it. I told them I couldnt take it back and they didnt want to exchange it for another so they said to throw it out then cuz they just didnt want it. They werent angry or anything, but I guess they really didnt want this coffee pot. They left before I could do anything else so I did what they said. Later my manager asks me why there’s a coffee pot sitting in the trash and I told him that’s where the customer told me to put it
Haha, he just rolled his eyes and didnt say anything. So I left it there. Since it was clearly used (the sides were covered in dried-on coffee) I wouldnt have been able to restock it anyway…Had I been able to take it back it would have gone into our “damaged” products
I shall be working tomorrow, not only taking care of kids, but providing service to members. I’ve had my share of customers from when I did my job last summer. We’ll see which kinds of people I’ll get this summer.
