Dashell Robert Parr

You love him, you

hate him, you’ll laugh, you’’ get excited, you’ll get nervous. But no matter what, you won’t deny the fact

that he is indeed an Incredible character. This little speedster deserves his own

topic in the Incredibles section.

Okaaay. :stuck_out_tongue: And you mispelled his first name.

(Dashiell)

Dash is such a cutie! I love love LOVE his hair! All part of the amazing character design in

The Incredibles.

But back to Dash…I felt so bad for him not being able to participate in sports until

the very end of the movie. Up until that point, Dash must’ve been so frustrated. And by not allowing him to

apply his energy to playing sports, it bottles up inside him and sometimes causes him to get into

trouble.

But I love the little guy. ^o^

I think Dash enjoys using his

powers even though Helen said not to. I think he enjoys playing tricks on his friends and his teacher. But it’s

cool when Dash uses his powers against the guards and the omnidroud

I find that comparing Violet and Dash really puts his personality into perspective- she’s

shy, he’s outgoing; she despises her powers yet he loves them, etc. Even their hair colour is completely

different! But I feel that Dash really matured throughout the movie- at the beginning, when he and his sister

noticed that Helen was packing supersuits, he tries his on and says things such as ‘the Dash likes’. He seems

to have quite a high opinion of himself, and although this doesn’t change completely throughout the film,

watching just the scene where the three of them swim to safety after their plane has blown up is proof in itself

that he has what it takes to be super. Letting someone else win in the running race right at the end of the film

just proves this even more.

One of the great

Incredibles mysteries.

I think Violet dyes her

hair, it’s unnaturally dark and suspiciously shiney. I would imagine, in the great tradition of Disney movies,

her natural hair colour is auburn like Helen’s.

I’ve often

thought that too! In fact - have you ever noticed the eggplant/violet highlights in her hair that just happen to

match the color of her forcefield? I’ve often wondered if that was a side effect and now her mother forces her

to dye it black since it looks unnatural in her auburn or blonde hair. Having to dye it like that - especially

if she had exceptionally beautiful hair like her mother (actually her whole family is blessed with gorgeous hair)

  • could certainly add to her depression and her feelings that her powers make her a freak rather than special.

Could Vi’s hair be black because she has super genes

in which case anything is possible? I mean, none of the Parrs’ powers are the same, so why should their hair

colors be?

Oh, and I thought I’d move this discussion to another new thread because this one is for Dash.

I think she dyed it. Something I learned in biology class. If Helen

had auburn hair, and Bob had blonde hair, then her kids can only have either blonde or auburn. I still love her

hair though.

Guys, we are getting a little off topic

here.

Anyways, Dash has so many advantages in life. It makes me yearn to have super peed like him.

But having

Super Speed has its disadvantages too. For example: Running into Violet’s force field at dinner time. For a

normal person, the impact wouldn’t have been painful. Also, you could get in your trouble from your parents,

(even if the teacher is a meanie). Helen was rather disappointed in Dash after he got sent to the office, putting

a tack on his teacher’s chair.

In the commentary, Brad Bird

talked about the 100 Mile Dash. He said that this was a special scene for Dash fo a lot of reasons. It was the

first time he was allowed to use his powers. I like it how Bird combined the mundane and the fantastic as Dash

ran into a swarm of flies and tripped several times. I also like how in the end, how he was running in the cave,

the only way to defeat the bad guys was to stop and run no more.

I

love Brad’s use of the mundane throughout The Incredibles.

While you want Dash to escape the bad guys,

you’d hate to see him do it with no problem at all. I actually like to see a hero struggle some, because it’s

more believable.

This is something we also see in the scene when Bob stops the train. He’s totally

capable of accomplishing it, but he still braces himself before impact with the train because he knows it will

hurt.

And I know they talked about that in the commentary. :stuck_out_tongue:

Brad Bird wanted to show that Super Hero work

is not all just a walk in the park. If you seen Super Hero movies, people do get hurt and the jobs they do

aren’t the easiest jobs in the world. Bird and the guys at Pixar did a great job portraying that.

But you

have super powers. How can it not be a walk in the park?

Well, you’ve gotta

remember that Dash is only 10. He’s still adjusting to how he uses his powers. And in an adrenaline rush like

that, he’s bound to trip a little.

~~=oP

But at

the final battle, he was able to get the hang of it, he even ran on the water with out any problems or

hesitation.

True, but that wasn’t his first experience.

On

Nomanisan, the guards appeared out of nowhere and surrounded him and Vi, causing him to panic and run for his

life. When he and the rest of his family arrived back in Metroville, they knew what they were going to be up

against.

~~=oP

I guess

because of the fact that he was now a Super, who is responsible for saving the city, he was actually allowed, for

once, to use his powers without being held back.

Anybody remembered in the "Life’s Incredible

Again" sequence, Bob was playing football with Dash. And that same thing was applied in the fight against

the Omnidroid? Didn’t Brad Bird say someting about it?
