I loved the first movie - Steve Carrell was great as Gru, and the three orphan girls are just precious.
Can’t wait for a sequel. If the teaser is anything to go by, it’ll be zanier than ever.

A Minion in a French Maid outfit?
Despicable Me 2 Full Length Trailer
Kidding, check out that and a glimpse of a mysterious new threat in the link above.
Ah yes…despicable me 2. I liked the first one. Im hoping the second will be good.
That trailer reveals so much about the movie…
I wish we could actually find out something about the plot.
Now we know there’s a cat, and that a beam comes down and takes a couple minions. Ooohh, so much info!
The new trailer is up on Apple Trailers! Some thoughts:
Kristen Wiig (How To Train Your Dragon) is adorable as the spunky Agent Lucy Wilde. She manages to hold her own against Gru without coming off as too annoying or aggressive. Looks like baddie daddie has met his match!
The two Minions continue to dominate the slapstick antics. They’re reaching the “silent mascot” status for Illumination Entertainment like Scrat did for Blue Sky and Luxo Jr did for Pixar.
Agnes continues to melt hearts with her naivety. Gru’s good-night parting quote is particularly daaaw-worthy.
An anti-villian league recruiting one of the enemy to fight an even bigger threat? You now have my attention.
More spy and espionage shenannigans. The nod to the transforming Lotus in The Spy Who Loved Me is a nice touch.
The use of an Eminem classic as the trailer music is pure nostalgia.
Overall, got my hype levels up, although it still feels like a teaser rather than a meaty trailer. And it still lacks the kick-in-the-pants, I-gotta-see-this vibe that later trailers for How To Train Your Dragon, Up and Epic had. But Wiig’s character grabbed me hook, line and sinker, so let’s see whether any better trailers surface.
I’m surprised that folks here aren’t as excited as I am! Maybe it’s just because I saw the first film about 4 months ago and I’ve been hyped as can be… but hey, this film, for me, is definitely one of this year’s must-sees for me! I love DM to pieces… some of the best lines, wit, humor, satircal bits, and slapstick tied together with great action and best of all, great heart. My advice? If you think you don’t like it, watch it again with an open mind. Seriously peoples.
Only seen those first couple of teasers so far… holding off on the new trailer for a little bit. Though I’m confused, TDIT… didn’t Kristen Wiig play Miss Hattie in the first one? It seems fairly odd to me that they would have the same actress play different characters in both movies, but whatever! I’m excited as a barrel full of minions for DM2! XD
It looks good so far.
[spoil]But I’m pretty sure the red haired lady and Gru will fall in love. Even before I saw her I wondered if he would fall in love with someone in the second movie. I’m not saying it’s terrible, but I can just see it a mile away. I could be wrong though.[/spoil]
OWP: I love the first films to bits, it’s one of my fave films from 2010 and I watched it at an advance screening for a kids’ charity, so I had fond memories of it. The part where Gru was assuring Margo that he “won’t let go” in the finale was so touching, it made me cry! It’s a film that has a big heart yet knows how to have a little “evil fun”, and it’s no coincidence that its “spiritual twin” by Dreamworks a few months later, Megamind, turned out to be a firm fave of mine too. I just really like redemption stories, cos’ it shows that bad people can do good things and vice-versa. end fan gush
Checks IMDB Oh gosh, you’re right! “El Burro”, haha!
Looking through the cast list, I’m amazed by the voice talents from the first that I wasn’t aware of. There’s Jemaine Clement (who voiced Nigel the cockatoo from Rio) as Jerry the Minion, Jack McBrayer (Fix-It Felix from Wreck-It) and Mindy Kaling (Taffyta Muttonfudge, Wreck-It Ralph) as Tourist Mum.
Amy43: I kinda wondered about that, if they would give the girls a “mum” in the sequel (I’ve decided not to spoiler tag this as this is mere speculation on the trailer). I’m rather pleased that they have a (potential) love interest for Gru here, I think it’ll be a love-hate secret-agent partners sorta thing like Agent 99 and Maxwell Smart from Get Smart or Mater and Holley from Cars 2. Some animated films have did-not-get-the-girl endings, so I won’t be surprised if they parted amicably at the end, although it certainly would be more original than if they were to hook up to form a nuclear family for the girls.
^Glad to know we share similar sentiments about the film, TDIT! I have fond memories of watching it for the first time with my brother… and we both loved it to pieces.
And to add on to the whole “Gru-Lucy” thing, as soon as I knew she existed, I kinda started hoping that maybe they’d end up a couple… I’m not going to let myself get too too excited over the possibility, but who knows? I thought my early presumptions about Mater and Holley were far-fetched… until an Disney Insider article tipped me off, that is! So there’s hope yet…
I’m really excited for this!
Me too, more than I originally was! Somehow, it looks to me like won’t disappoint. Just my guess, though.
Yesw, it looks better than the original! Trying not to get too excited.
Am I the only one totally stoaked that Al Pacino is in this?
EJE: I think I was scrolling through the first movie’s IMDB cast list and I saw Pacino in there too! I forgot which character he was, though.
I’m really looking forward to this movie. So many great animated films coming out this year - Planes, Monsters U, Epic, Turbo and this one! Nice mix of sequels, adaptations and original properties.
This movie is going to be hilarious! I saw the new clip of the new movie when watching the Croods! I laughed my butt off! I heart the minions! They are so great!
You say you like the Minions, LittleTomo? Have a poster:
I like how that Minion has pictures of his employer and kids on the inside of the locker (if you think about it, the Minions are part of Gru’s family too). They even have a work roster, haha.
I just wish Moises Arias(sp?) wasn’t in this. I hate any reminder of the Disney Channel. But he might not be that recognisable.
They’re showing the trailers with Star Trek Into Darkness. It looks kinda fun. I guess I would go see that. The first one was amusing to say the least.
idk, I just lost a lot of interest once they announced that Pacino no longer was on the project.
