This looks like another safe bet for Illumination Entertainment. With Despicable Me 2 set to do extremely well at the box-office, it’s obvious that these yellow creatures will be another money pot for the studios. Sure the minions made Despicable Me alot of fun, but a whole film centered around them? I don’t know.
This is an interesting move on Illumination’s part. With DM2 in 2013 and a spinoff the next year, they’ll be able to gauge whether Gru and the girls or the Minions are a bigger draw. Also, the Minions offer the possibility of exploring how much non-dialogue, slapstick, and pure character animation audiences enjoy. It worked well for the first part of WALL-E. Anyway, looking forward to see if Illumination can pull it off, good on 'em if they can.
