According to IMDb, the “people” are Chris Meledandri and two storyboard artists. The latter combined have worked on only two Blue Sky films (Robots and Horton Hears a Who!), so they weren’t regulars at the studio. I mean, heck, one of the dudes, Steve Moore, also was a storyboard artist for the flop The Wild. He did direct Olive the Other Reindeer, though, and I enjoy that film.
I’m not arguing that this will be a bad movie, but I personally think if it has success, it will be independent of Blue Sky’s accomplishments. There aren’t enough major creative figures from that studio who are contributing to this film, so… yep.
The new trailer looks cuter than the previous ones, I think. I don’t really care for the visuals (specifically color choice, which is far being striking), but I hope the story, writing, animation, and everything else are good!
I was mainly just talking about Chris Meladandri. He was the producer of the first four or five Blue Sky movies, sohe obviously knows how to make an animated film, IMHO.
I saw the film today. It is very immature, has lots of stupid parts, plot holes, and illogical parts. This has a lot of potential, but instead has a thousand fart and disco old man jokes to keep 5-year olds entertained. 2 1/2 Stars out of 4.
I’m sorry to hear that! There’s nothing I hate more than fart jokes and other toilet humor. One joke is fine, but it’s repeately told it’s annoying. I still might want to check it out though, maybe. Is it worth $9:00, sorry $11.00 for 3D? My theater charges extra for 3D.
TAMATER: Ugh, it stinks to hear that. I thought it would be this year’s unexpected animation surprise (last year’s being CWACOM) but I guess not. It’s doing fairly well on Rotten Tomatoes too with an 81%. I’ll likely see it this weekend so I’ll post my thoughts.
Just dropped to a 79%. Yeah, I still don’t have that much motivation to see this film. I didn’t want to see it much to begin with, and the mixed reaction just makes me turn away further.
I’m sorry to hear you didn’t like it TAMATER. I’m still undecided as to whether or not I’ll see it. I’m planning to go to a movie with friends this weekend, and they’ll probably drag me to see it… but they have horrible taste in movie! Last time I let them decide, they chose to see Clash of the Titans over How to Train Your Dragon Honestly, most of my friends would rather see this over Toy Story 3.
I know exactly what you mean Bryko614. From the trailers I expected CwaCoM to be completely childish, and lacking in story. I think it was because they showed nothing except food falling from the sky…literally nothing else, at least in the trailers I saw. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by the film, once my sister finally convinced me to watch it I was hoping Despicable Me could be the next CwaCoM, but it doesn’t look like it will be anymore.
I just watched it, and it did have a lot of kiddish jokes, but I did find that there were some pretty good jokes. I’m not too sure about this one, but it made me and a few others in the theatre laugh. There might’ve been a reference to [spoil]Kim Jong-il when Gru stole the shrink ray from a country in Eastern Asia. He was with black glasses, and it just reminded me of the dictator. Maybe it was supposed to be a stab at the South Korean ship that sank because of a missile, thought to be from North Korea. Probably just a coincidence though.[/spoil] The 3D was pretty cool in this movie too.
Flint reminded me a lot of Flik, and I just kept thinking of ABL all through the movie; maybe it’s just me. I looooove the movie, though. Major win, Sony!!
I saw Despicable Me today and actually enjoyed it a lot (maybe because I didn’t go in with super-high expectations). I liked Gru and the girls, and some of the over-the-top, cartoony style. Yeah, it’s fluff, but it’s enjoyable fluff.
Oh, and Vector is totally Mandark from “Dexter’s Laboratory.”
It’s worth 2d but not 3d, IMO, because of brightness and stuff. The 3d does not enhance the picture in any way.
Bryko- I may have been a little harsh with the kid jokes because there were four small children talking behind me and laughing really loud. Still, 2 1/2 out of 4 stars.
I don’t know what you guys are talking about. 2 1/2 stars?
Psh.
It’s no Pixar movie, nothing can be, but it’s really cute. I didn’t think there were really many immature parts (maybe Vector… but only a few). Oh and the minions! Loved them! Gru’s relationship with the girls is really cute, but that also might’ve been a little enhanced as my youngest sister (4 years) sat in the row above me with her arms crossed on my head
Also, there was finally the Rio trailer in the theater. I feel bad that unfortuently Alpha and Omega has been out for a while, so the premise will be seen as the same
