^ I like the art, too, it’s just pretty cut-and-paste, which is what they’re complaining about.
I just saw it (all alone in a 200+ seat theater…), and I have to say I really liked it.
Granted, the 3D was way over the top (if you watch all of the end credits you will see just how much), and there were a couple of cheap laughs, but the scenes with Gru and the kids were so great, they made this a really enjoyable movie.
I liked the soundtrack quite a bit, too. Better than the TS3 score, in fact.
Final verdict: 8/10
I just hope this never gets released on [spoil]Gru-ray disc[/spoil], the picture quality would be nothing short of despicable.
+1 for epic pun.
On-topic: I still have to see this movie. I will as soon as I can find the time though. I even watched Alpha and Omega so I think I cannot justify skipping this now.
Yes, I agree! I love the French horns and trumpets, gives it a very spy thriller vibe that’s great to listen to while entering a fancy dress dinner party/driving a tank-car to the local coffee joint/saving the world. It’s a pity little of the orchestral score is on the soundtrack.
Nice one.
As much as I’m supportive of A&O (I haven’t seen it BTW), I’m inclined to think Despicable Me is much better (which just means, you should watch it the next chance you get!).
Maybe I’ll rent it when it comes out on DVD.
Well, I hadn’t seen it, but I trusted you guys that it was good. I asked my mom for it for Christmas. I love it!!! I found the beginning with the hicks and deflated pyramid a little dry, and didn’t like the hick jokes. But I loved Gru and his huge “car”, and they way he purchased his breakfast. Not as good as Dragons or Toy Story 3, but this movie is definitely worth its weight in public opinion. No idea why, but I teared up at the end, when Gru read the girls the One Big Unicorn book. <3
I am really impressed with this year’s animation menu!! I haven’t seen MegaMind or Tangled, but TS3, Despicable Me, and HtTYD all had me bawling. Very impressed with all three movies, in varying degrees. I’m glad I own them all, now, or I’d have to choose!! Anyway, I’d say a good 8.5/10 is deserved here.
I forgot about this thread! Well, I made a list of my top 5 animated movies of 2010. (I saw 6 animated movies this year) and Despicable me came in 5th. It was a good, sweet, movie but it got dry at some parts. My favorite part about it was Steve Carell!
I thought it was really good, especially as one of the middle movies. Not highly anticipated like TS3, but not massively disappointing, like Shrek Forever After. I thouroughly enjoyed it.
Funnily, I teared up at the climax where Gru pulls out all the stops to rescue the girls more than I did at Toy Story 3 or How to Train Your Dragon. Maybe it was the fact that he was literally risking his life to save the orphan girls he slowly grew to love that really tugged at my heartstrings.
This is definitely among my top ten movies this year. Maybe even top five. I immensely enjoyed the over-the-top Looney Tunes antics. There’s a trend for movies to be overtly ‘dark’ and depressing (The Dark Knight, Quantum of Solace, Toy Story 3, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1), and to see something this bright, exuberant, and all-out ridiculous (but with a touch of heart) is extremely refreshing.
Agreed.
I’ve only seen 4 movies this year, and 2 were animated. I despised HP7, so DM made the top 3. Can’t decide if I like it better than Toy Story 3 or not, though…
Loved this movie! It all came down to a single detail: [spoil]the close-up of three finger-kittens, each taking a sip of milk in turn.[/spoil] Priceless!
That whole scene was my favorite in the movie too!
Despicable me Is a good movie (My little sister loves it ) But i really can’t wait for the movie HOP to come out (from the makers of Despicable me )
I swear, “It’s so fluffy, I wanna DIE!” is the movie catchphrase of 2010.
^I love that part!!! I <3 Agnes. I mean, I like all 3 orphans, but Agnes is the best.
I loved Despicable Me!
I just watched it.
It was hilarious and touching, especially because I’m the daughter of single dad.
My favorite part was the tea party.
Also, the score/soundtrack was amazing!
The score was one of the film’s strongest suits. I just love the ‘interlude music’ they play during scene transitions, it oozes style and sophistication. You can almost imagine Gru as a secret agent, albeit a very evil one.
Pity the instrumentals aren’t available on the soundtrack. I could listen to Gru’s cue over and over again.
I watched this movie sunday at a movie night at Church and my mom and I loved it so much we went to Wal-Mart when it was over, bought it, and watched it again when we got home.
Haven’t seen this one, but I kind of thought that those little yellow things looked like the kind of characters that would be designed for a modern day video game. That’s just me, I guess.
I didn’t think it was [u:260tbdhg]that[/u:260tbdhg] good. -But don’t consider me an Armond White clone, I still liked it.
