Disney dumps Chronicles of Narnia • They did it on Christmas

I had no idea this happened! I didn’t see anything on here about it…What does everyone here think about it?

Christian conservative? What the heck?

Narnia is so Christian-based that I feel awkward watching it sometimes.

Wow. Since I dont know many of the details I’m not really sure what judgment I could pass here. I wonder what they’ll do with the Prince Caspian thing that’s at Hollywood Studios… And all the other Narnia stuff they have.

God, just another Christian Conservative extremist bound to make the rest of us look bad… I mean, uh… (And a lot of people seem to forget that liberals can be Christian, too. Sheesh.)

(Yes and FONY the author meant it to be Christian. Hey, you get the Golden Compass and we get CoN. )

But why the heck is the guy fighting with Disney? Does he think they’re wronging Christianity by producing the movies? Can’t imagine how. The movies are great. Is he just another power-hungry church official? God knows how annoying they are. Will not go on a rant on how their treating my church…

Chronicles of Narnia was written by C. S. Lewis, as his own way to ‘come to terms with’ Christianity. He never liked it to begin with because he was forced to go every Sunday; the faith felt forced upon him.

And, just so you know, you can hardly understand Golden Compass unless you’ve read the Bible. It incorporates it so much that it’s confusing. I’ll re-read it once I’ve read the Bible.

Update…20th Century Fox has picked up Narnia.

They will be producing it alongside Walden Media.

Still no word wether or not any changes from the Disney version have occured.

I have to completely disagree with the statement on C.S. Lewis’s Christian beliefs. Everything I’ve read about the man (and I’ve read quite a bit) shows that he is a true believer. It may have been forced on him in his youth, but he was devout in adulthood. He even helped convert J.R.R. Tolkien when they were in their little literary group in English pubs.

Also, from the article: “According to multiple sources, the once-close relationship between Disney and Walden began to unravel when, after the first “Narnia” film cleaned up at the box office, Anschutz essentially put a gun to Disney’s head and demanded that the studio renegotiate its deal with Walden. Anschutz insisted that Disney either gave back a sizable chunk of the studio’s lucrative distribution fee or Anschutz would distribute the “Narnia” series on his own. Believing the franchise was too good to give up, Disney reluctantly changed the terms of its Walden deal, but the renegotiation poisoned relations between the two behemoths.”

Does that remind you of any other studio which demanded a better deal from Disney before seperating? Maybe Disney will eventually buy Walden Media. Stranger things have happened!

I highly doubt Disney will buy Walden Media. Walden makes other movies that aren’t distributed by Disney, and I believe Narnia is the only movie they are both involved in. Pixar was only working with Disney, plus every single Pixar movie was a monster hit, while the Narnia’s haven’t been as successful, though they still did well. Plus, during this time the only good animated movies that were coming from Disney were the Pixar ones, so it would make sense to buy them.

I heard the one of the reasons Disney dropped the series was because Prince Caspian did not do as well at the box office. It makes sense though because Caspian was between to big movies, Iron Man and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and I’ve heard that Caspian is the least popular Narnia book, so fans weren’t as excited to see this one. The next books is supposed to be the most popular, so if they just kept the series, and then moved it back to the Winter season, I’m sure it would be do well.

too late for that…fox is going to do it now. I’m afraid Disney missed the big picture. If they were waiting for the money all they needed to do was wait 1 more year. Now fox will get all that dough instead. Good for Fox…not so good for Disney.

I felt Caspian was okay, but really the story was a little muddled. If they had followed the book, it would have been much better. Usually a movie simplifies the book, but they tried to make story lines that wern’t there (not just the caspian/susan thing) but also the timing of things. The book flows much better. I did like the failed castle attack though. Voyage of the Dawn treader could be awesome though, if done correctly!
